Makes me wonder what to expect from the successor of the Source engine.
I love these cryengines but the problem is that I never see them put in good use.
Actually, you should support UE3/4 and Cryengine. Those devs can spend tons of money and time on the engine. Then, a game dev can just buy the engine and spend their resources on the gameplay and story. So we end up with the best of both worlds :D
Unfortunately, there isn't a single decent game on Cryengine, except the original Farcry, and the upcoming Star Citizen. I think until Star Citizen hits the shelves, Cryengine still has not been put to any good use other than Tech Demos
What about the first Crysis?
I had a lot of fun playing it, but it was hardly spectacular.
What about the first Crysis?
I just consider it a Tech Demo, to be honest, as I do Crysis 2 which was a step backwards, really, and Crysis 3 is the first Crysis I thought felt like an actual game, albeit still kind of bland. Visually they look amazing, but that's what Cryengine is about. We just need some kick ass games for it
puddles are still not as cool as CoD's next gen fish.
Meanwhile 28 years ago:
This deeply terrifies me
The SDK is out now but the C++ source code for the game dll will come next week. Their website is acting up though because of all the traffic I guess. But if you just want to see the graphics you should get the SDK. It's at 1.8GB and comes with 2 pretty maps.
Does the grass grow?

Hmm, so far FOX Engine seems more user friendly but I'll keep my hopes up.
Meanwhile 28 years ago:
whoa that was artsy
Does the grass grow?
Lol what you want grass to grow each time you pass by it? Sadly it works if its a tech demo where you can speed up time. But in an fps? wut
Now if only they could make a game that is fun to play.
you for real?
fyi havok does have a game engine which includes its physics libraries
Meanwhile 28 years ago:
This video disturbs me a bit.
Hmm, so far FOX Engine seems more user friendly but I'll keep my hopes up.
Is FOX engine even available to use outside of Konami? If not it's kind pointless to compare how user friendly they are. [editline]24th August 2013[/editline]
fyi havok does have a game engine which includes its physics libraries
Yeah and it's also free to use for noncommercial use
Heads up, you can now download the latest free SDK. Its 1.8GB in size. /edit Posted earlier, but no link!
Hmm, so far FOX Engine seems more user friendly but I'll keep my hopes up.
how could you know how user-friendly an engine when you haven't even used it yet, seeing as not for public use at all it's hard to even guess how functional it is from the videos of their SDK in action [editline]23rd August 2013[/editline]
also fyi this doesn't include physically based rendering
nor does it include the source for the GameCode (yet). they also updated their scaleform SDK but it's still behind since they're at 3.5 but the current version of the SDK is 4.1. ah well. it's not like anything significant was added [editline]23rd August 2013[/editline] i wonder how they changed up the HumanSkin shader b/c imo it already does a fantastic job
Windows 8 is not officially supported :(
64-bit doesn't seem to work on Windows 8, 32-bit does. Both 32 and 64-bit were tested to be working nicely recently but there has obviously been a code change which has caused 64-bit not to work well in Windows 8. We will review recent code changes and hopefully have this fixed for next release which will be fairly soon!
Fairly soon meaning months no doubt, this is so disappointing.
in all reality their 'next release' is supposed to be within a week or so b/c of the missing GameCode source
in all reality their 'next release' is supposed to be within a week or so b/c of the missing GameCode source
Lets hope so. Had a nice run through of the stock level and its so damn pretty. Airfield is a bit of code that was not removed from the editor, its not a working level so don't click on it Hope the editor is a great deal more stable than last year, planning to use it for my final year major project. Did a module with it and I got so frustrated with the veg editor crashing all the time.

The last demo makes me want to play a post apocalyptic open world game made on the cryengine.
A STALKER game would look great on this engine. Much better than on the older Cryengines anyway.
Meanwhile 28 years ago:
And this was not in real-time. In fact, this would hardly run well on current hardware either as it seems to use ray-tracing as the rendering method.
