Disney reuse a lot of their recycled stuff, so it wouldn't surprise me if the Family Guy cartoonists got a handful of their recycled animations.

What I don't understand is how the replicate the animations on the characters if the character they reuse it on don't share all the similar characteristics.

That's what a "template" is. It's a pattern that they simply follow with their new character. It's not ground breaking or anything but it saves some time.
