Cool Reviews of the 3D Zelda Games from a guy that deserves more views
IMHO i never played zelda as a kid other than like link to the past. i got OOT when i saw it on the wii virtual store and i was honestly fucking bored of it. it was way too vague at hints, the combat was meh, the camera was atrocious, and traveling to point A to point B was just a massive time waster with no sense of progression. Meanwhile i played windwaker before that when i had a gamecube and loved it to death. i think people need to put the nostalgia goggles down and look at OOT and see why it was pretty damn bad. it was cool for its time, but people didnt know better because there were barely any games like it at the time.

not to mention the pacing was horrendous
Now look at the game from its intended perspective
3D gaming has only just arrived on consoles and available 3D environment alternatives are games like Resident Evil, Final Fantasy 7 and Mario 64
Suddenly OOT does so many things better than all its peers

Um. The pacing is as god as you make it as a player !?
Thanks for showing OP!
I enjoy this much more than the manchild gamegrumps stuff.
Game Grumps aren't reviews...
The most comparable thing is ego's Sequelitis, which is far removed from game grumps. (and actually good)
the fact you even bring that up in here is baffling seeing as how they are two seperate things then you justify it by saying 'WELL THEY ARE BOTH ENTERTAINMENT WE CONSUME' even though it's pretty obvious you brought them up because you really are oblivious

Also I can understand that perspective whe you are used to newer stuff but the ONE thing you gotta give it, you ALWAYS gotta give it, is
the music.

Pointing that out is important enough to you toderail the thread again isn't it?

"Ocarina of time could have presented an option to change the Z-targeting from hold to toggle, but it doesn't."
Well, I can tell he didn't look very hard.

Although I do agree with him in stating that the LoZ series should have more options in it's options menus.
I agree with almost everything he said except for the addition of motion controls in SS. I actually liked the add on of motion controls for skyword sword even if it was sort of buggy. It opened up a type combat that wouldn't be possible without it and while I generally don't like motion controls I don't think skyword sword would be nearly as good without its combat system made possible only because of the wiimotion plus.
"As soon as she's revealed to be the princess, the King of Red Lions starts referring to her as Zelda for no reason."
isn't it explained in wind waker that the king of red lions is basically the king of hyrule
or did this guy miss that
That makes the whole "Zelda before transformation" even weirder

He didn't miss that, it's explained in windwaker, and even mentioned it in the same review only moments before.
However regardless of her ancestry her name is still Tetra. If anything she would be Princess Tetra, not Princess Zelda.
this guy owns and it's interesting to see some insight and details I may have missed or forgotten.

The transition is just weirdly done espcially as everyone saw it coming from miles away, the whole point of the "hidden Zelda" helping you is pretty obscure to me, it had its functions in OoT and was well done there but in WW/PH ... meh.

the music is amazing, but compared to majora's mask the game is boring as hell. i played plenty of other games back then like mario 64 is still one of my favorite games, same with link to the past. but link to the past i knew a fuck ton more at what i was supposed to do compared to OOT.
Overall OOT to me is extremely boring and imo the worst 3D zelda game (i havent played skyward sword though).

You would change your opinion if you played Skyward Sword.
z
I don't hate it I called it manchild that's not hating that's disliking and it was a pretty sweet comparison as the gamegrumps stuff is a way of interpreting games completely opposite of what the guy in the OP is doing. I've watched a few gg videos and the humour looked pretty childish to me, in my opinion it's a pretty superficial way of consuming the medium and doesn't do the beauty and art of it any justice but then again the guy in the OP might be missing out o the humour so there's that. But lets not discuss that and I also dont' want to go into the thread just to say that I dislike it so yeah maybe you guys can live with me thinking gamegrumps is a bit manchildish and I can live with you guys being entertained by it and we are cool and get back to what a great experience Majoras Mask was.
literally the most pretentious post I have read all year
I can't say I ever had a problem knowing what to do in OOT - I agree that objectives weren't spelled out for you, but you were guided to the right area - and if you forgot, Navi would remind you often enough.

The only place I can remember being open to boredom is Hyrule Fields tbh. Every other place had lots of stuff to do.
Thanks OP! I do love me some long and in-depth videos on some of my favourite games
These reviews are amazing. Wish I had half of this guys critical talent.
his majora's review is spot on, but I disagree about it being a tough choice between oot and majora's being the better game. MM is such a marked improvement over OOT in literally every aspect, gameplay, story, and general game feel. oot has flawed mechanics, a boring hyrule field that feels like it only serves to make the horseback riding aspect feel rewarding once you get it (as you don't have to spend literally forever walking across planes of nothingness to get somewhere after you get epona), and a super generic story to top it off. termina field is a lot smaller, denser, and adventerous feeling, the story is unique, the gameplay is improved, and the general atmosphere and themes of the game are special. oot is still a good game, but when compared to everything that MM built upon it, especially when you consider how much time they had to develop mm, there's literally no contest.

You can respect it for being new for what it is, doesnt mean its very good. Sure it was neat when it came out but now that i play it with actually looking at gameplay and story, its extremely dull. MM was neat because all these small quests that were amazing and you felt extremely connected to the NPCs. It is a total upgrade from OOT. If people should be praising the best zelda that is 3D and from 64 it should be MM by a massive lead.
I never got the attitude that "pioneering something means its the best at it." That's seriously not the case at all.
OOT was the pioneer of 3D zelda games, and its flaws are probably mostly attributed to having to rework zelda for an additional dimension for the first time ever. However, its flaws are still flaws at the end of the day.
[editline]27th November 2012[/editline]
That doesn't mean you shouldn't respect OOT, it did a lot of things right, and it set the frame for 3D zelda games.
Having played through the 3DS version of Ocarina of Time, I can agree with the bit of the Water Temple on how putting the Iron Boots to a button makes the Water Temple actually bearable, and evens out its difficult to be on-par with the other temples. .. Infact, OOT3D was actually damn easy compared to my experiences with, say, LTTP, but I haven't even bothered with the Dodongo Caverns in Master Quest yet.
I wish I could have enough interest to play Majora's Mask, though. :saddowns:
would having a texture pack help?

Holy fuck! Nice! Is that a hacked rom or what?
[editline]28th November 2012[/editline]
Nvm it seems to be a plugin.
Still, very very nice.
Yeah - oddly, a glide plugin that then requires a glide wrapper.
I'm not sure what exactly N64 emu devs are smoking, but the results are worth it.
excuse me
does that Kafei have RED HAIR
THAT IS NOT CANON
