• How big is the universe?
O really? You better explain that.
It's called the Heat Death. The universe will eventually reach equilibrium and be the same temperature everywhere with no 'usable' energy. It's all due to entropy. You, me, your PC, the Sun, they're all accelerating the death of the universe :v:.
This just came to mind - if universe is expanding (stretching) and any point is getting further away faster and faster, that means eventually, all things in universe would be so far apart that each solar system (or maybe each galaxy) would become isolated from the rest, because they would be moving apart faster than the speed of light (possible because they are not really moving, it's space appearing out of nowhere). That means anything, even light, emitted from one such capsule would never reach the others, instead being lost somewhere in the ever expanding region of space. This is an alternate scenario to the heat death. If capsules are of different temperature, they can only reach thermodynamic balance within themselves , but not between two or more capsules. Makes sense right? The longer we rabble here without a warp drive or teleportation the more of our universe becomes inaccessible.
http://wimp.com/starsize/ http://wimp.com/universecomparison/ I must say, i'm amazed. I knew the universe is infinite, but not the scales! Mind = blown
You never knew it's infinite because there's noone around to prove it. Nobody knows..
Universe is big, very big.
The universe being that big, this is why I get irritated when people immediately disregard my opinions of there being other life besides from us. It happened to Earth, it can happen anywhere else. [editline]06:34PM[/editline]
I feel the same. Entirely.
Me too. :( Hug?
The universe being that big, this is why I get irritated when people immediately disregard my opinions of there being other life besides from us. It happened to Earth, it can happen anywhere else.
god made man, not aliens silly
god made man, not aliens silly
God made aliens. Aliens used earth for one of their school projects on organic life.
Holy balls, the largest known start is 3,063,000,000 km wide, meaning it is 1903259961.821931 miles wide. The Earth is 7296 miles wide in diameter. Meaning, the largest star known to man is 240,012 times bigger than Earth. :ohdear:
My dick is bigger than canis majoris. :smug:
Is it really growing? Or is it stretching?
stretching like goatse?
This one actually looks alot creepier:
The question isn't whether there are aliens in space(obviously life exists somewhere in the Universe besides here), but whether they have visited us and probe people or explode cows(to be honest if I were a highly advanced species then I might explode animals on a planet inhabited by less advanced intelligent creatures just to fuck with them, but that's just me).
Videos like this make me happy.
Videos like this makes me sad, and almost makes me cry!
Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God;the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
I believe that we are all mere atoms to an even bigger universe, and that the atoms making up our universe is a smaller universe. (Such as, our universe making up Zen like in HL, or vice versa) Scientists that say "parallel universe" are pot smoking morons who talk with their intestine and not their brains, they simply can't prove this AT ALL. EDIT VY Canis Majoris scares me. Superman must love just flying around the universe.

It must end somewhere!
Yeah it's pretty amazing, even though most of the "planets" are gas giants...
I think this video is appropriate. I love the universe, and Carl Sagan. And Stephen Hawking.

"Heat death" or rather entropy cannot be reversed or even stopped. Entropy must increase. Eventually the entire universe will grow dark, then collapse into a singularity, and then, maybe, another big bang. I suggest you read this: http://www.multivax.com/last_question.html
Great big bang theory video. Has some nice music too from M83 http://www.wimp.com/bigbang/
I saw it if I get enough agree's I'll post the guy's entire half hour long video series from youtube. (Its only 3 videos but they're amazing)

I suggest you read this: http://www.multivax.com/last_question.html
Thanks, that was an awesome read. I didn't mean that entropy could be reversed. The current trend is that entropy increases to the point of maximum, and rate of entropy decreases. Majority of usable energy would become unusable in conceivable amount of time but last bits would take infinite time to deminish. Self accelerating expansion, if it is, would even more slow down entropy, but of course not stop it. It would also reduce density of energy, by pulling stars apart, making it exponentially harder to gather. Humanity would start going extinct at some point here. Now, if the universe were to suddenly start shrinking, that would increase the concentration of energy which makes life easier for us. Yet entropy would also be accelerated. No matter if space shrinks or expands in strange ways, entropy is still there. So yeah, even another big bang wouldn't save us in the infinite run, unless we learn an actual way of reversing entropy (or we could start jumping to parallel universes, which would add another 20 or so orders of magnitude to our lifespan, without taking into account present occupiers of those universes).

Perhaps that's when the universe is reborn. Some unknown event takes places that creates new energy when so much matter becomes so massively dense. If that's true, then there may have been any number of universes before ours, and an infinite number of universes in the future.

Chances are, once the universe is dead it's dead for good. The theory of a collapsing universe is largely disproven now, with the modern measurements of the universe expansion rate.
See, they make all these fucking movies about vampires that live forever and all they do is be emo and eat people. If I could live forever, I'd fucking travel space, fuck truck stops and shitty cities.
holy fucking jesus 13 billion light years? Thats how far light travels in a year! think about it. 375,000km(how fast light can travel in a second) times 60 times 60 times 24 times 7 times 52 times 13 billion. if your calculator can do that equation, you will find out how big the universe is in kilometres :ohdear:
That just goes to show that we quite possibly aren't the only planet with human life
and yet I keep meeting the most fucking annoying person in the universe every single fucking day
I just want to be your friend.
