okay, the preview picture is really misleading. Still should've been more green.
Shiny plastic. REALLY
What are you even saying, I said if they did that, and it cost $500, it would be worth it. The fuck you going on about.
Fair enough, I wasn't really replying to you in particular, mostly just the notion that it is somehow disappointing what they came up with. Sure, yeah, it'd be great if they invented power armor too, but without a major change in industry I am totally happy with a glorified phone-case from this software company. It might be worth it for a few fans willing to dish out, but I doubt it would ever be profitable for them as a company.
I had it on pre order but as soon they announced the season pass i cancelled it. I prefer to spent money on the season pass once the first few DLC's will roll in.
I'm only paying 80 bucks for the CE, since I got giftcards from Amazon so for that price I honestly couldn't go wrong with this.
only reason to get it is to put it on your big boss arm
only reason to get it is to put it on your big boss arm
i think it's too big unless you have the japan version
dunno why people thought that a plastic toy coming with the videogame would be worth it or high quality at all
"As far as stupid gimmicks go I assure you it's just the best fucking one I have ever seen!"
"As far as stupid gimmicks go I assure you it's just the best fucking one I have ever seen!"
For something that's literally the same gimmick as the WiiU, it actually seems less convenient to use the pipboy than to just use the ingame menu.
For something that's literally the same gimmick as the WiiU, it actually seems less convenient to use the pipboy than to just use the ingame menu.
Depends. It might be nice for some people to be able to flick through their inventory without obscuring 4/5ths of the screen by default. Personally, I think it's worth the cash. Is it a bit silly? Yeah. But for something which appears to be pretty much spot-on to the actual, in-game item, life-size and actually *wearable*/ usable, I don't really feel much need to complain about it being too glossy.
Lol at people that get salty over an optional collectors item.
hmm to cancel or not to cancel this and just get it off steam...
Can't wait to get mine. I don't like the glossy look but whatever. I'm going to put it on my shelf with the operations manual. I'm totally going to walk around and use it as a phone case for the first week after Fallout 4 comes out.
"As far as stupid gimmicks go I assure you it's just the best fucking one I have ever seen!"
He meant the phone app though, not the actual prop itself. Honestly, for 70 bucks, that's not bad. It doesn't look brittle, it's a nice collector piece, and it looks good on a shelf, which is kind of the important part of an object like this. If you want a high quality metal replica of the pipboy (usually not wearable and without a stand) you'd have to shell out about 200 bucks, at the very least. The only big downside about this is that the plastic is a bit too glossy, and if that really bothers anyone, it's easily fixable. At the end of the day it's a nice collector item that has the immediate advantage of being a 1:1 replica with a stand (personally I'll just assume the glossiness is because it's meant to be a brand new version of the pipboy, while the one you get in the game is more than 200 years old), while most other collector's editions come with smaller versions. The Dead Space 2 CE came with a really tiny plasma cutter (which I still love) and the AvP CE came with a small articulated facehugger. I own both of these CEs, and after 5 years of owning them the facehugger basically rotted away and slowly degraded to the point where putting it back in the box to move in a new apartment exploded the entire thing (it was made of latex and the articulation were just basic metal wires running inside the legs) while the Dead Space 2 gun remained mostly the same but because it completely lacks a stand it eventually fell over and a part just outright came off (it was a small part just awkwardly stuck in a hole and it was loose to begin with). What these two CEs had in common is that they were cheap - about ten bucks more than the base version, so the collector item I got with it was significantly cheaper, and so was the packaging. Meanwhile the Pipboy looks solid and comes with a decent stand (the actual game box itself is neat looking and not a piece of cardboard like a lot of other limited editions) so I can already tell it'll hold up for longer.
but heres the dealio, you dont need the big dumb hunk of plastic to use the companion app so its basically a big dumb piece of useless plastic
I mean you could make the same argument for like 99% of any of the shit you get in collectors editions IMO Personally I'm done with collectors editions. I don't need more steelbook cases or art books or stupid figurines, I just want the game.
That's it, for $120 that's all you get? A plastic tub, a ho-hum aluminum case and a Happy Meal Pip-Boy. The Fallout 3 CE was I think the same price and you got a little alarm clock pipboy an art book in a stylized lunch box along with some other (useless) shit. I'm surprised it doesn't include the first bit of DLC for free or something considering how little you're really getting for that price. Although I personally think CE's are wastes of money anyway.
I sure am glad I didn't pre order the collectors edition now
This should've been merch sold in stores, it doesn't make any sense as a bundle IMO
This should've been merch sold in stores, it doesn't make any sense as a bundle IMO
Well, they literally made so many that the production company's schedule led to them physically not being able to make any more. Maybe in future they'll do a rerun but I'm sure it will be possible to get more in the future in 3D-printed format. [editline]3rd November 2015[/editline]
but heres the dealio, you dont need the big dumb hunk of plastic to use the companion app so its basically a big dumb piece of useless plastic
Well yeah, but it's just for people who want to have a bit of silly fun. Nobody's forcing anyone to buy it, and pretty much everyone who bought the Pip-Boy Edition is happy with it.
Remember when you all couldn't keep it in your pants when it was announced. The hive mind is so strong it hurts. I still see lots of potential here for a pretty fucking cool modification and you got tons of space in there to work with.
There has been literally like two people regretting their decision to buy it in this very thread
That's why I said 'pretty much'. But still, we knew it was going to be glossy and pretty much just a plastic shell since before it was available to purchase. Nothing's changed since then, so if they regret their purchase, you can't blame the developer for telling them exactly what the edition would contain.
Total cop out on quality. The least they could have done was add a brushed metal coat of paint on it. Didn't even do that. Looks like it was made from a plastic mold and shipped off immediately.

http://imgur.com/a/Wj4dm Ultra settings screenshots [editline]3rd November 2015[/editline] Woops, meant to post that in the leaked gameplay thread
And then everybody would be bitching that it was $600 and there weren't enough copies to go around instead.
Brushed metal paint over the plastic case wouldn't even cost 50 cents. What are you talking about?? http://www.amazon.com/Sargent-Art-66-5423-Metallic-Acrylic/dp/B0027AAYR0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1446558253&sr=8-1&keywords=metallic+paint 600$

It's not like they can just take a can of spray paint and spray it on there. People underestimate collectibles and how expensive they are to make. You have to pay people to paint them which takes hours per unit for a low quality paintjob, more like a week for a high quality one. Think of it this way, if you wanted the guy who made this laser rifle: [T]https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/d7/72/d0/d772d069fe9322537c84141190d72ac1.jpg[/T] to make you a Pip-boy you'd be paying minimum $1500. He charges ~$400 for unpainted, unassembled models.

Meaning they are mass produced. Putting a paint machine in the line wouldn't cost shit for them. It's literally a single coat of brushed metal. Toy companies do it ALL the time. Also stop saying brushed metal, I don't think you know what that means considering you linked just metallic paint. I mean seriously, for $50 did you expect anything different? I don't get it.

Hate to keep bursting your bubble here, but I design props. I'm an active cos player. But your right this isn't a thread about Fallout pip boy edition why should people be able to share their opinions on things.

It's a piece of plastic made in China that costs next to nothing and you could clearly see that when they showed it at E3. It's not like this is new information, that's what it was advertised as. As it is, people are already complaining that there aren't enough copies to go around, so what should they do, make a 500-run set of them that are higher quality?
