Everyones talking about Kojima but fucking Guillermo del Toro is where this shit is gonna rock. I guarantee like, most of what was actually frightening in P.T came from him. Dude can make shit scary real quick.
This looks fun.
I hope Kojima plays with the speaker on PS4 controllers, I want to hear creepy shit coming out of it, but the sound being so faint, you don't know if it is actually from the game or not.
That part with the door was fucking awesome.
I was expecting/hoping for the SH1 opening music at the end of that trailer. There's just something so incredibly unsettling about what sounds like an otherwise pretty upbeat tune that makes it perfect for the series.
Imagine this with the Oculus Rift...
Why wouldn't it be third person? They've got a big name actor to portray the likeness
I don't mind being up and personal with the horror; my problem with horror titles now is how reliant devs are on jumpscares or forcing the player to run. Those are great elements when used in the right frame. It seems that most horror games rely too heavily on those things which just feels boring and dated. Sure, Outlast made me jump quite a bit, but the experience is forgettable--which to me is a terrible thing. I'll always remember the Apartment Complex and Hospital in SH2; the apartment's first person perspective, and the zombie ghosts endlessly pursuing Henry in SH4; and of course the horrifying aspects of Heather's changing world in SH3. Horror is one of my favorite genres and it's a shame to see so many devs fail to grasp the raw potential that can come from simplified horror. It's truly gripping when the story engrosses you by feeding you just enough to keep you pressing onward. We always see in movies the person whom stupidly investigates the creepy noise; but really, that's what we're doing when we play a horror game. We thrust ourselves into a world that is supposed to envelop us enough to keep moving forward through the story because we genuinely are curious enough to subject ourselves to restless nights and terrifying images. Jump scares, ultra detailed gore and overused chase scenes kill a horror title. Sometimes what you don't know, what you can't see is just enough--because the human psyche and paranoia toward the unknown will fill in the gaps and keep that tension strong. Needless to say, I am optimistic for this game, I think it'll be interesting seeing them reintroduce the first person element--my hope is that they don't follow in the safe footsteps of games like Outlast, Amnesia, or the most recent SH installments.
I'd be happy with either first or third, I'd be perfect with both in certain cases. Combat would be good in third person as well as outside exploration, but inside close quarters exploring should absolutely be first person in my opinion. Silent Hills is exactly what I wanted from the franchise since completing the first three games, I honestly can't wait to lose sleep over this.
has there been any word on who is doing the soundtrack to the game? i really hope its akira yamaoka
has there been any word on who is doing the soundtrack to the game? i really hope its akira yamaoka
I don't think Akira Yamaoka wants to work on Silent Hill games anymore. I think he's concerned about just becoming "that guy who does the music for SH", as he'd rather pursue a career as a rock musician, doing live gigs and such. [editline]19th September 2014[/editline] Maybe he'll change his mind but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
I hope I didn't spoil some of the scares watching this.
I hope I didn't spoil some of the scares watching this.
Title at the beginning says "concept video" (Its only there for a split second) We wont see any of this in game most likely.
Akira Please come back. Oh my god
who would make the best replacement for akira if he didn't come back. like this is already a dream team working on the game so who would be his equivalent
who would make the best replacement for akira if he didn't come back. like this is already a dream team working on the game so who would be his equivalent
Aphex Twin has done some pretty scary ambient stuff before. There's like, no chance he's actually working on this, but y'know, it would be cool.
i was reading an article that said akira would love to come back and produce for silent hills honestly, it wouldn't feel like a silent hill game if he wasn't a part of it
Oh lord that [sp]monster. Somehow I got the idea it's the mommy of the children. And the way it screams and cries at you makes me think a parasite or something got her.[/sp]
Kojima posted reactions from TGS 2014 :v:
