So I'm going through games trying to save every scripted to die NPC

-Nevermind I'm edit: not wrong-
ok show me a video of the scripted scene for his survival then
Huh, well that's, odd. I distinctly remember saving Lazlo and there being a comment about Lazlo's leg being amputated, followed by advice on staying out of the sand (picking up boxes). Had the same voice actor and all.
Edit: I did it! The scene I'm remembering seems to either not exist, or broke, because the "poor lazlo" comment still happens even with lazlo clearly not dead.
I've got a video clip, uploading.

I do this all the time on my own. Its good fun, and I am glad to see I am not the only one.
i guess the script for him to die doesn't trigger if sandy doesn't say his "no laszlo don't move" line? like if the player triggers the antlions maybe it messes the whole thing up or something
regardless, there's still no scripted scene, so i only half concede that you're right
Never stop doing these, I'm in love with your accent. And you as a whole of course.
you sounded like you shit yourself when that scientist died at the end.
I was trying to impersonate John Cleese from that Monty Python sketch with the dirty fork, it didn't go well

Buy me dinner first
30 seconds into the first video, you didn't save the crow ;-;

Wouldn't it be better to park the scientists in a safe location instead of carrying them into a soldier battle?
perhaps theres another duder you can save in HL2

if this guy is still alive after you help him with the manhacks, after you leave him and go a teensy bit further into the level, you hear him scream out in pain, you come back and he is slumped dead against the wall with a single manhack in the room
In Fallout New Vegas you should try to save the guy who tries to run into the new vegas strip, but gets killed by the Securitrons.
Fun fact: That guy is actually really bugged in vanilla NV. He's supposed to be a random race and gender that'll respawn to rush the strip entrance every couple of days, but that part is messed up and as a result he'll always spawn once as an odd pale guy.
While we're on the subject of NPCs destined to die in Fallout, You should try to save the bartender in Paradise Falls who gets murdered by one of the slavers.

It would but I completely forgot all the soldier locations because I hadn't played the game in donkeys years, if I go back I'll leave them on the bridge

Ah Manhack Matt, I'm almost certain he can't be saved as I think his corpse and the manhack are spawned in or something. There's pretty much no way of ensuring he survives :(
Your caravan in the Honest Hearts DLC of Fallout New Vegas?
Your caravan in the Honest Hearts DLC of Fallout New Vegas?
I think the script itself forces them all to die, otherwise the quest can't continue.

I don't play by the scripts rules, I'll see if the DLC ends up in the steam sale and try pick it up and have a go
First video of the day up also, the we're doomed scientist

Next up is the Project Purity scientists from Fallout 3, just got to edit that together~
Update here's the Project Purity vid, Dan is a crazy man on the edge

When I played Oblivion I did my damnedest to make sure as many NPCs survived as possible. And this was on Xbox (I own it on PC now as well) so I didn't have the luxury of mods or willing people back to life through console commands.
The Cheydinhal Oblivion Gate was especially grating as I did it when I was a high level so the Xivilai and Spider daedra would often kill the "knights" I was trying to save even with healing spells/buffs.

The Chedyinhal one is with the Knights of the Thorn or something isn't it? Yeah that one was a pain in the arse, the main guy had barely any health and they were all scripted to target him first so it wasn't too easy. Did you ever attempt to save that Argonian you were asked to sacrifice when you were doing the initiation into the Dagon cult thing? I'm thinking of trying him next
Not to steal your thread or anything, but a user here on Facepunch has saved the companion cube in both Portal games.
Portal 2

Portal (3 parts, almost 30 minutes long)

Here's suggestion for a video. You can save these guys by doing this:

Aftermath:

You don't have to use those dirty cheats to save them either.
i tried doing this in FONV's honest hearts dlc at the start, but it turns out they HAVE to die. There is no way to save them, the NPC's who kill them can't be killed until they die
:(
You should totally try keeping all the marines alive in a level on Halo CE/Halo 2. No idea if you can play the campaign on Custom Edition. If you can, 'Assault on the Control Room' would be a good level to try it. I love this concept you have going on. I was hugely anal about keeping every single NPC I could alive when I was younger on every game I played.
Man, if you do more Half-Life videos I heavily reccomend you turn the HD model pack off, it's a much better experience, trust.

I was thinking of trying to do one of the flood levels and saving them all on that, should be pretty interesting! I'll see if I can dig up my copy of Halo 1 and try Assault on the Control Room.

No but I will in future
edit : also going to start a NMLB playthrough of Black Mesa, should be fun on a bun
You can save the 'doomed' guy easier
If you spam use after his 'only way out' there's a brief period where he'll follow you

Yeah there's been a few suggestions for this guy, this one and shooting him at just the right moment so that he'll go into the security door meaning you can pretty much skip a whole chapter of the game :v:
also first video of the day up

I can't stand that new M4A1 or whatever. Gordon will always have an MP5 in my heart.
An MP5 that somehow has an M203 mounted to it.

IIRC that guy's actually pretty easy to save. After you crash the party most of the Mythic Dawn focus on you while his scaly ass scurries out of there.
[editline]10th July 2013[/editline]
You could try saving that one elf in Morrowind who always falls to his death near the first village.
What about the humans before the aliens start teleporting them in DNF? you can get out the vehicle

I've got a request, it's from Opposing Force. It's the part right after you(and Otis the guard) see a Barney and scientist get attacked by a Shock Trooper. After that you run into an elevator and there is a grunt at the top. He's meant to get killed by 2 vortigaunts that spawn up there with him but he's savable(it's hard to do, involves a well placed grenade, and timing the vortigaunt spawn)
