Granted she wasn't severely beaten or anything but did anyone expect this guy not to get charged with assault for shoving a news reporter on live TV? The charge seems entirely reasonable for what he did

I've been shoved lots of times, on purpose and on accident. You don't go around crying assault every time. If I were her, I'd laugh it off and keep broadcasting. Assuming he ran off right after that. That being said, he shouldn't have done what he did either. TL;DR I dislike both sides.

It was assault. You don't have to be hit or hurt for it to be assault (That would be battery). Yes, it's a very minor assault, and they are being very sensationalist about it, but she was technically assaulted and is technically a victim.
