I still see AVGN being praised on here when his gimmick is he yells at old shit and curses a lot.
thats because its cool to hate Nostalgia Critic
I still see AVGN being praised on here when his gimmick is he yells at old shit and curses a lot.
What do you expect from a guy called the 'Angry' Video Game Nerd? And when you go into AVGN, you're at least expecting him to rant and rave about crappy video games without taking himself seriously or dragging things out. Usually.
I still see AVGN being praised on here when his gimmick is he yells at old shit and curses a lot.
Because even if the AVGN isn't the best, he at least gives a shit and has a certain charm. Every one of the other series he's posted is him being casual, not putting on a show. The Nostalgia Critic on the other hand shat out an abortion of a film was 3 and a 1/2 half hours and released a new series, Demo Reel, which shows that he only got lucky with the Nostalgia Critic.

i just heard NC's sex noise...
I still see AVGN being praised on here when his gimmick is he yells at old shit and curses a lot.
AVGN isn't obnoxiously annoying and shrieks like a dying hyena at stupid nitpicks in shitty movies. AVGN's curse gimmick works because the games he plays have legitimate problems and are legitimately difficult, therefore the viewer can be like "yeah I'd yell fuckballs too" that, and James is a guy who actually knows a lot about his craft and is genuinely interesting to listen to while Doug made Demo Reel and Kickassia. Yeah.
What annoys me is the fact that he doesn't realize that he sucks at making movies(kickassia was horrible) when he critizices movies.
he's giving the people what they want. if you're mad about this video try to remember if you ever used a gif of him reacting before... yes, you are part of the problem!
But the bitter truth we assholes must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is more meaningful than our criticism designating it so.
that, and James is a guy who actually knows a lot about his craft and is genuinely interesting to listen to while Doug made Demo Reel and Kickassia. Yeah.
don't forget this

Anyone remember his hobo videos? Those were pretty good.
i just took a nap and had a dream about nostalgia critic doing an egregiously shitty review of star wars IV. his terribleness pervades all aspects of existence
don't forget this
good lord I'd never seen this HOW CAN ANYONE FIND THIS FUNNY
See, with stuff like Melvin (he later had a group of people beat up the character on-screen) and Bart's Nightmare (which he publicly apologized for) I respect that he admits that he made a bad call. Still, you have to take into account that he spent a week working on it and thought to himself "Yes, this is good. It is funny."
good lord I'd never seen this HOW CAN ANYONE FIND THIS FUNNY
Not even he found it funny, he sometimes brings it up to make fun of himself.
don't forget this
this is pretty umm... wow
Yeah I mean when you make something of your own, it's not going to be very funny. While this as a reaction. Is hilarious.
is this some sort of meta joke because this was as almost bad as the OP
Jontron is right up the nostalgia critic's alley
Jontron is right up the nostalgia critic's alley
i view them both the same way. they both became awful, and seemed much better in the past as a result. then you go back to their past stuff and realize that it was kind of all bad in the first place. at least nostalgia critic doesn't throw together a bunch of "BAZAZAPOO POO LOOK AT ALL THE ARROWWWZZ!!" editing. the only irritating stuff he ever did in post was the stupid songs he made up, or the big lipped alligator shit.
Oh my god the comments are just full of "oh my god this is so super special awesome best thing evar!!" I just don't understand how people can be so willing to just be accepting of something that's pure shit.
I watched a commentary Doug did for one of his older videos once. His older videos are often considered to be some of his best work (relatively speaking), but strangely he didn't appear to be aware of this, or even agree with it. He spent much of the video complaining about how bad he used to be and how he's gotten so much better, and he seemed to believe that everyone agreed with him. Based on the fact that Doug's admitted to not paying much attention to the internet outside TGWTG.com, I'd have to assume that he just came to this conclusion on his own, saw nobody dissatisfied in the comments and assumed he must be right. But you can't find the people who dislike how things have changed on TGWTG.com, because they were all scared away by overzealous fans defending the site from "trolls". They all went to other places: SA, 4chan, ED, even Youtube, which Doug held a grudge against for a good chunk of his career. The whole community's effectively become closed off from the rest of the internet; only the most devoted stay in the place where Doug pays attention, while the rest can only watch from the outside.
I'm always flabbergast at how someone who can nitpick movies so much, yet completely mess up making a movie on a fundamental level. I know they're amateurs but To Boldly Flee is a trainwreck. Besides awful editing and general low budget problems, they were unable to keep consistent lighting between shots in the same scene, or having some actors mic'd while others weren't in the same conversation. I mean, for fuck's sake, they mess up Shot-Reverse-Shot SEVERAL TIMES.

[editline]25th May 2013[/editline]
What?
Basically what he said was that for someone like the Nostalgia Critic who nitpicks a lot in his movie reviews, he doesn't know anything about making a movie. Evidence would be the TGWTG anniversary movies.
I didn't get past the first "yes". I could feel how awful it was going to be
i just realized what this video reminds me of
Will that video ever go away?
don't forget this
How many failed projects did he start?
i just realized what this video reminds me of
oh no. Why didn't I stop watching after the first 10 seconds. Oh god oh man oh nonono. I can't. I just can't. I have lost the ability to can
Yeah, I don't like him either. People who play up being angry for laughs are the worst.
Ehh, I'm not too fond of his "let's curse" moments, but his Castlevania review is legitimately funny, and I think he actually gives a good "look-back" on most stuff.
