That's the greatest sound I have ever heard come from a TV.
Very cool sound. If you had used this, the sound would have been so much more awesome: [img_thumb]http://i51.tinypic.com/21jomz8.jpg[/img_thumb]
What is that thing called? It looks very promising
Wow, today, I was driving home and I saw a bunch of guys drop a TV down from their apartment into an empty alley way and I heard an explosion. Scared me. Coincidence? When I read the thread title, I thought it was the same bunch of guys who dropped that TV from where I live. You don't see people dropping TVs from the top of buildings everyday.
Is that you, guys?
are those guys on fucking drugs
What is that thing called? It looks very promising
It's the Sony PCM-M10 hand held recorder. It was personally recommended to a friend of mine by the sound designer of the LOTR movies. Its built-in microphone sound quality is far better than anything I've ever heard. I'm going to buy one soon, and I'd recommend this over any other similar device. It's about 95% as good as ones that cost over $2000 that are also made by Sony. This one sells for $230 on Amazon. Thinking more about this, I believe the reason why the video's sound is so impressive is the fact that the sound was so distorted. It would require an extremely loud sound for the recording to sound like that, regardless of the real characteristics of the sound. This Sony recorder would capture it in much better detail and clarity, although if it was loud enough you might not be able to turn the sensitivity low enough to avoid the audio peaking, especially if you were closer to the spot where the television landed.
that implosion would be the mass change in air pressure that occurs when the vacuum tube gets broken in crt's contain a very large vacuum so derp glass and shit flies when you break it
Sounded like a nuke explosion in the games... That's going to my favorites
the powers of an industrial grade air vacuum. [editline]31st January 2011[/editline]
that implosion would be the mass change in air pressure that occurs when the vacuum tube gets broken in crt's contain a very large vacuum so derp glass and shit flies when you break it
fuck beat me to it. anyway yeah. this is why, usually, in videos when people smash old TVs with something, videos that are not faked, they usually stand to the side. glass flies inward, a lot of it powerfully enough to go back out through the other side, and then smaller bits fly out the front as well. so if you're in front of or behind a CRT display and you smash it, depending on the size, there's a possibility you could get seriously injured, perhaps even fatally so
Sounded like Inception's "BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR"

I'm still looking for a handheld recorder to go with my Rode NTG-3. Thanks for sharing. :)
I expected it just rolling down the stairs. I was pleasantly surprised. :buddy:
I want to see a TV get dropped from even more insane hights.
Why doesn't youtube have a replay/loop function...

Times like these when I wish high quality camera's were more affordable.
I dont think Apple cares, they still bought it. Funny video though, have a smiling face.
You can't do that. Tube TVs contain lead (and sometimes mercury and cadmium) in very high (LETHAL, a modern CRT TV can contain up to FIVE POUNDS of lead, an older can contain up to 90) amounts. The lead is required to shield users from the X-Ray radiation that the electron guns emit. Don't touch it. Don't go near it. Call a HAZMAT team to dispose of it. Everyone that's gone near it should be checked out immediately.
I did warn my neighbor about the dangerous elements in the vacuum tube but it fell on deaf ears. I didn't and as far as I know, no one else went down to the bottom afterward. I was probably exposed to more crap from the obscene number of ancient florescent light bulbs that nearly everyone in residence insisted on breaking every weekend. Seriously, that place was a mess. Plus this was almost a year ago now.
♫ They will see us dropping TVs from such great heights... ♫
Reminds me of the song "Such Great Heights" hurr..
More like a fucking implosion :eng101:
More life you have no fucking clue what an implosion is. But that was amazing.
It sounded like you hit some chickens.
Oh, i was thinking it was going to roll all the way down the stairs, but this is fine too.

Where'd you guys do that? I'm assuming it was a school since you said "When the semester ended", and you said you're from Southern Ontario. I am curious :v:
