I think a big part of it is the attitude of the person in question.
Compare the way Julian talks about wanting to fuck Tiny Tiger to the kinda people who draw sparkledogs on DeviantArt; he comes off like just another guy, so the reaction is less "what a fucking weirdo" and more "yeah dude that's just what he's into, hey Julian do you wanna fuck Scrappy Doo from the end of the Scooby Doo movie? haha WOO!"
