He got better over time, but Ding Dong's editing had so much charm in it, little sound cues made stuff so much better.
I wouldn't call him bad by any means, it's just hard to compare him to Ding Dong and say it was as good.

Well, some people don't have the time (or the attention span) to watch a video that's over 20 minutes long, so maybe then they could get more viewers, considering that Youtube judges viewership by how many minutes of a video people have watched.
But whatever. That's just my two cents. They can do whatever they want. I'll still watch regardless.
I find that Game Grumps (and Best Friends Play, now that I think of it) has that problem that a lot of LP channels have, where they put out TONS of content really quickly, but the overall quality of it suffers.
Like, their LP of Breath of the Wild is over 70 episodes. If we're gonna assume each episode is at least 10 mins long, then that's like 11 hours of content at the very least. I'd be willing to bet that, of that 11 hours, at least a fifth of it is meandering around, trying to fill dead air. If you look up a Best-Of compilation for that LP, the first result is an hour and a half long; so around 10% of that LP is actually entertaining enough to warrant inclusion in a "Best Of".
Same thing with their recent Runescape series; I really like it so far, it's got Matt and Ryan, but it took them like 3 episodes to cover the tutorial. We're like a week in and the episodes they've released represent maybe 45 mins to an hour of footage. It's fun footage, but not much happens. It's fine for background noise, but it's no laugh-a-minute experience.
Compare this to the OneyPlays model, where every episode is edited to include only the entertaining bits; they're roughly the same length, but you get a lot more bang for your buck thanks to the extra effort it takes to cut out the unfunny/boring parts. Every episode of OneyPlays is like its own Best Of compilation.
With the "cut nothing, release everything" model, you get 80+ episode LP's that come out over the span of months where maybe 10-20% of it is actually enjoyable beyond "I'll put this on in the background". If I have some friends over, I can't say "let's watch Game Grumps" unless it's a compilation, an animated, or something like Mickey Mousecapade or that one episode of Battle Kid.
Meanwhile, I can throw on just about any video from Oney (or Supermega or Dunkey or Jontron or any other channel where editing plays a huge role in the content) and have everyone's attention for the duration.

Video editing isn't something that anyone can easily just get into and be a pro straight away. Everyone has their own feel on how a scene should be paced, what a good or bad cut is and when something is too long or too short on the screen. The older videos being edited by dingdong who (by the looks of it, don't know what he did before oneyplays) is very experienced in editing videos. And now because of him setting the standard for the editing too high it made it very obvious when someone else started editing but since it improved overtime it's all forgotten.
Also it's kind of a running joke to hate on el-sid so there's that lol
