I wonder how old this is.
Not so old, I first saw it last week.
He seems pretty clever
Watched the whole thing.
Badass, though I would've fucked with the guy more after getting enough info for a police report.
he could have done but im assuming he would have got into trouble for it with the cops so he didn't say anything on the stand if it was me i'd have used his bank details in secret and taught the fucker a lesson.
You've gotta wonder if that was the guy who actually stole the computer, or someone who bought it from the thief.
Either way ,he knew he was using a stolen computer
Is that zoz from prototype this?
I saw this on gizmodo.com. Very funny, and easy to relate to if you have a computer you love as a child.
start to finish.
Great story, except Dad walked in during the pics of the shower part...
This is amazing, he even backed his shit up.
Made my day.
That guy's a dick for showing the women he was contacting though. They had no part in it, he should have left them out of it.
A++ story, would watch again
Anyone tried out his passwords? :v:
Off site backup?
Or just shove the damn hard drive in a drawer or something...or hide it in your closet or something like that
I can't take anyone serious who calls themself a "hacker" It just makes me crindge.
I'm guessing the people who are rating me dumb where the creepy fat kids who used to sit in the corner rubbing their nipples all day.
No, its the way you spelled "cringe"
It was crindgeworthy
Somebody in the audience said "I saw that guy earlier!"
I doubt the guy was actually the one who stole it. Most would just sell it off as soon as they steal it, so this guy could have been innocent. But still, this is cool

Thats why I don't think he was arrested or anything...and I think that because the "hacker" then said that he continued to retrieve his data once he got his Mac back
welcome to the ownzone
population
him

Buying stolen property.

How would he go on about retrieving more data when he already has his mac back?
I wonder if this guy made a guide of sorts on how to do this. I'd love to be able to do all that in the chance my laptop or something is stolen.
It's incredibly useful, but I guess the potential for abuse is there, as well...

Most of what he did was VNC into his computer. Download UltraVNC, its brilliant.

I was under the impression he didn't get his external hard drives back

It's easy to do, this guy had an awesome streak of nerd luck considering he wasn't planning on it being stolen.
Definitely going to set this tracking system up when I have a computer worth stealing.

The harddrives were backups, so why would he try and get the data back he already has?

Well he said some of his stuff was deleted
I was most surprised that he managed to get a decent response from the ridiculous online dating thing.
That was great
So no defense on your computer at all = Recover it from theft every time?
