It feels like the video is jumping the shark, but maybe it's just bad timing - they just got Steve-O for a collab and sadly the trending topic on youtube was a very serious one.
Though if I were Ethan I'd do a regular Steve-O joke vid and do whatever kind of a response on the daddyoffive issue some other time. No matter how you look at it, whether you expect a meme reaction or a serious one, they kinda fucked it up.

this was posted days before this daddyofive stuff started blowing up
what i think happened here is ethan was hanging out with steve-o when this started blowing up, and probably planning a different video. to cash in on the controversy though, they made the video about daddyofive instead. pretty scummy imo
The title of the video was basically clickbait
So you're mad about the tone of the video and not the fact that it's monetized.
Why can't he be mad about both? Monetizing a controversial topic is pretty stupid, and making tasteless jokes within the same 15 minute segment while also barely brushing on the fact that it's actual psychological and possibly physical abuse is just awful.
Why can't he be mad about both?
If they were mad at both then they should also be mad about 95% of the news media.

Then you should be mad at literally every news company to exist in history as they all do the exact same thing

Yeah I agree with that, but to make the assertion that it's worse then the actual child abuse is dumb

I think you're interpreting it wrong.
profiting off child abuse is wrong, its even more wrong when you use it as a joke to push likes and make jokes about/based on it while its still going on
phillip demonetized his videos involved in the situation because it was a serious matter
I read this as "Child abuse is wrong and it is worse because they are also monetizing it", not "monetizing a controversial topic is worse than child abuse".
i bet its monetized too
unintentionally making this worse than the daddy of five videos because they actively know its wrong and still profit off it
Hmm I see, wasn't aware of the edit.
While I get that they didn't handle the topic exactly delicately, they did satirize the DaddyofFive channel by showing how abusing someone for likes is a bit ridiculous.
I really don't think any H3H3 video would've done the daddyoffive issue justice.
there isn't any way to make child abuse funny.
Ethan has just been using his newfound fame to meet celebrities and cash in on it. The videos have no point, substance or purpose and feel really insincere. The tone of the channel shifted drastically and I just don't really see the point of watching a channel, where an entitled guy just hangs out with celebrities all the time, making outdated "meme" jokes.
Either way, this video really made me lose respect for Ethan for the way he handled the situation (i.e: making a full-blown comedy skit with little to no relevance to the topic at hand especially with the thrown-in celebrities and how he seems to be primarily motivated now by just monetization, instead of just informing people what the hell is going on and once more calling out the system so hopefully nothing like this happens again).
I have to say this one is one of the worst videos I've seen from these guys in a while for those exact reasons.

They could have done just a rant thing, like when they talk about Youtube being shitty with demonetization and such. It doesn't have to be funny. Though at the same time, I think Defranco said all there was to say, but I still think they could have brought the issue up to the ton of fans they have instead of joking around with it.
Gonna send Ethan an email, hope it's ok that I will be quoting many of you because you can all illustrate the point better than I.

Making fun out of fucked up situations is a thin line to walk, but then trying to monetize such a video is just jumping head first into the "dude, what the fuck" field.
I think i get what they were trying to do, make fun of the abusers, but this is a really grey area where its easy to unintentionally be insensitive.
However, whining about monetization is a bit fucked.

and i was wondering when facepunch would start hating on them.
A Jew, a stunt man and a child abuser walks into a room...
If he wanted to chime in on this he should've just done it on his own and gone through it the same way Philly D did, this is too serious to even attempt a laugh or a joke.
and i was wondering when facepunch would start hating on them.
I hate this bullshit so much already. Every single time someone brings up "haha facepunch hivemind" is stupid because it completely ignores any context surrounding it. It isn't like one guy goes "I don't like this anymore" and everyone follows. Events happen that cause people to start disliking a channel or a person and it just builds up until it looks like an entire forum hates them. But it isn't instantaneous and trying to call everyone out by acting like it is is stupid. Sorry for ranting but every time a slight dislike arrives there's always someone going "haha we don't like him anymore do we hivemind" thinking they're clever and they aren't.

I'm glad your smug superiority made it out intact

Can't tell if you guys are blind or what. We've already got a thread in this section for h3h3, and this video was posted already.
so? videos dont have to be posted in the mega threads.
and i was wondering when facepunch would start hating on them.
PewDiePie was hated because he made shitty screaming let's plays of whatever was viral at the time(Happy Wheels, Amnesia, FnF) but when since he dropped it and started doing other shit that was actually had some creativity to it, people started enjoying him a lot more.
It's all about the content being produced and it's not just because this channel has had its run and people are criticizing it because they grew bored of it, it's just that the formula is always the same and just adding celebrities to the videos doesn't cut it.
One thing that bothers me about this video is how SteveO pretty much said in the first minute that his main reason for reaching out to h3h3 was to self-promote. I remember he did the same thing with GameGrumps a year ago; where he went on their show mainly to plug his channel and a new comedy special.
I feel like that set the tone for this video instantly.
There just wasn't a single thing funny about the entire video either, I think i watched it with a completely straight face.
and i was wondering when facepunch would start hating on them.
I stopped enjoying h3h3 as much as I used to months ago
But a half-assed video isn't enough to prompt me to say that. A rushed video isn't either. Nor is a mildly unfunny one. Plus, no one else seemed to be talking about it so I'm not gonna try to ruin the mood either
Of course it's going to take a truly bad video about a subject I care about to get me to react. And of course other people who didn't react because of the same reasons I had are going to be more comfortable knowing other people feel the same way
Basically: it's fucking obvious why these shifts happen and I legit don't understand why people are so baffled every time.
The skits were funny but in the context of the original child abuse videos it's really inappropriate.
I never really enjoyed h3h3's videos, honestly. I used to watch him back when he had about 80k subscribers and then in the span of what feels like a few days he just blew up even though he never really changed his formula or even improved it. He does make glorified reaction videos after all.
Imo the only reason he became so e-famous is because he got a lucky streak. Whoring himself out to a shitload of other youtubers who were more popular than him at the time like Jontron and Filthyfrank is also a contributing factor.
I'd be okay with the "making light of bad situation" stuff if it weren't for the fact that the video is just boring. It just wasn't funny, honestly.
