It just wasn't funny, honestly.
To be perfectly honest, H3H3 hasn't really been that funny since Vape Naysh. All of the guest videos are just skippable imo
I never really enjoyed h3h3's videos, honestly. I used to watch him back when he had about 80k subscribers and then in the span of what feels like a few days he just blew up even though he never really changed his formula or even improved it. He does make glorified reaction videos after all.
Imo the only reason he became so e-famous is because he got a lucky streak. Whoring himself out to a shitload of other youtubers who were more popular than him at the time like Jontron and Filthyfrank is also a contributing factor.
I enjoy his older videos and could still go back to them because they are actually funny to me. Recently I have been skipping over them, but it's mostly because it's kind of the same thing over and over. I don't know how they could make it any different though. It's like "this video is really weird and we have funny reactions to it" and that's great but I did tire of it. I think the vlogs and other things they do were more interesting after a while because I was tired of the same old thing. Still overall I've lost interest.

It's like, there's a difference between a 'funny person' and an 'entertainer'. Ethan is a funny, relatable dude - and that's part of why he got so big - but he's not equipped to be an entertainer. Handling an audience this big is not for everyone. Keeping a steady flow of varied content is really, really hard, and while I'd love to have Ethan in my friends circle, it's hard to get excited over someone who can't really maintain any diversity.
and i was wondering when facepunch would start hating on them.
If a youtube celebrity makes a questionable video, its better for people to call them out on it.
They gain nothing if they are surrounded by an echo chamber where people always praise them no matter what video they put out.
Also people changing their taste is not a facepunch exclusive phenomenon, people do that on other sites. Really hate it when fans strawman the whole site because we criticized the video.

I don't know, he's been slipping up a bit lately but overall I think they're still relatively on top of it. I think this is just really poor timing for another kinda bad video what with him just having to eat humble pie over the WSJ video. I'm not really even a big h3h3 fan but as of late I've been running through his stuff a bit and I feel like he's still doing well.
As a long time fan, it's obvious his videos changed riiight around when he got sued by Matt Hoss.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/t3WXqCF.png[/t]
He's kind of admitted that videos needed to be put out way faster to make a profit, so there was less (if barely any) editing on them. He couldn't 'pick on' smaller channels anymore because his fanbase would attack, and even using his old formula of reacting to videos now meant the potential for another lawsuit. There was a phase of really bad clickbait to get those views back, which is where I stopped watching :v:.
He's a marketing expert, so it's pretty clear that his way of keeping viewership up now is by using other people's audiences, thus the shitload of celebrities, interviews and podcasts... without time to think about the context at all.
Makes sense that when he had Steve-O for an afternoon they wouldn't care about making it funny, let alone stopping to think about how fucked up it was.
i bet its monetized too
unintentionally making this worse than the daddy of five videos because they actively know its wrong and still profit off it

profiting off child abuse is wrong, its even more wrong when you use it as a joke to push likes and make jokes about/based on it while its still going on
phillip demonetized his videos involved in the situation because it was a serious matter
it should be clear that there's a bigger problem concerning daddy of five's videos than profiting off child abuse, and that is the child abuse itself

Yeah, holy shit. That's why I think the whole thing feels weird. It's almost forced at this point.

It makes me really sad cause I want to watch and like H3H3 really badly but if it's gonna be garbage like this man idk.
Yeah, holy shit. That's why I think the whole thing feels weird. It's almost forced at this point.
Well I mean, he is getting sued so it's understandable.
Even if he wins it's still gonna be a financial burden, I'd be pumping out videos too.
Yesterday I did a marathon with my mate watching their reaction videos and the fucked up dentist. Was fun and today I checked out the Steve-O and you was wondering why it was so shit so I came here to see that your opinions pretty much describe how I felt about the channel. The suing thing explains why their videos are not interesting or fun.
I don't care so much about the morality of this situation, as I do for the shit chemistry Ethan and Steve-O share. Their characters don't really mesh well, they both seem to be accommodating eachother and thus come of as a comedic 'arranged marriage' of sorts.
The only watchable part was when they were reacting to the actual video. Everything else was shit.
That Steve-O guy looks like the smackhead that stole my ex-fiancee.

Why is it always ex-fiancees with Facepunch.

The Joey Salads video was pure gold. But yeah, I stopped watching H3H3 maybe 9-10 months ago, can't say exactly what threw me off, but when I see the title "reading MEAN COMMENTS with my mother!" I can kinda guess where they were headed at the time.

I love any of his videos that contain his pure parents.
i kinda think that skit was just a sarcastic joke
i kinda think that skit was just a sarcastic joke
Well it clearly is, it's just because it's bad timing and a bad way to incorporate a collab. I thought it was funny but maybe a month to early, that's all, obviously nothing malicious here.

Can't tell if you guys are blind or what. We've already got a thread in this section for h3h3, and this video was posted already.
People just don't give a shit it seems.
not only tasteless but surprisingly unfunny. I expected better from h3h3.
Well, after all he actually survives on YT money so it comes to no surprise he has to take some drastic approaches.

There's drastic and then there's stupid. All he had to do was do something completely different with steve o and it would be fine but instead he did this.
Yeah I don't think anyone would disagree that a H3H3 episode with Steve-O would be funny, but it would have been 100% funnier if they didn't try to tap into this Daddyofive drama too.
People just don't give a shit it seems.
The problem with Megathreads on Facepunch, and this is inherent to Facepunch and any other forum that doesn't allow arbitrary editing of titles, is there is no way to tell when new information has been posted in them.
You can't really use the number of comments as a gauge, because people can get very fervent in their discussions. I remember there being threads in the Modeling section dedicated to extracting models from certain games, and over night there'd be 10 new pages of comments. Surely that means a breakthrough has been made with the extraction tools, right? Nope, some fuckhead decided to kick up shit, and spun up a three-sided debate that somehow lasted 10 pages of garbage.
IF Facepunch megathreads had the capability of updating their title, to reflect when new content is posted, then they'd be viable.
As they operate right now, though, Megathreads are one of the worst ways to relay information on this forum, simply due to the fact that comments and content are ambiguous. They work fine for people who are fanatically enthused with the subject and can spend days talking about it with no new content - but for the rest of us, who only care about the content and the little bubble of discussion that immediately spawns around it, Megathreads are woefully ineffective.
That's why posting the videos individually in the forum is a lot cleaner of a solution - because the forum facilitates clearly marking new content.

When i saw that balls getting cut part I was expecting it to have no ads

TBH I found that video entertaining, mainly because I'm simple minded and don't care about that Child drama that is going on.

way to miss the point
i kinda think that skit was just a sarcastic joke
I mean, that was the point of it, but people are mad about the fact they're profiting off the shitty parents' channel existing, though hey that's literally how news works. it was surreal watching steve-o just chill at the computer and comment on
While the episode was thoroughly 'meh', I'm not upset over how they handled things (save for the lack of writing/finesse). I like that a number of big channels calling it to attention [defranco did it nicely but also felt oddly clickbaity, I understand that ethan would approach it by making an absolute fucking farce of the situation] given the parents are clearly cashing in on their abuse with a full brand identity across youtube/instagram/facebook/notsnapchat/etc. It's surprising they haven't been kicked off youtube, let alone had more conclusive results from child protection (they don't physically hit the kids and normalize the psychological shit so unless the cpa saw their youtube channel, all they had to go by was the kids' word and probably an inspection for bruises)
I hope ethan gets back into his old groove, but with some new content. I love when he just pulls goofs for the sake of internet drama but the lawsuit probably scared that out of him for good, it's bullshit that its been allowed to go as long and hard as it has and even if he wins, has set a fucking awful precedent exemplifying how hard you can fuck someone up over petty youtube beef
There's drastic and then there's stupid. All he had to do was do something completely different with steve o and it would be fine but instead he did this.
Yeah, when I hear Steve-O I think crazy balls to the wall stunts in which someone probably ends up getting hurt.
Instead, Ethan just tried to do his usual reaction video thing, except Steve O totally didn't fit in. He's a goofy dude who constantly tries to crack jokes at everything, and they chose the most fucked up, not funny at all subject matter to talk about. Then they go and do some fake "pranks" as if there's supposed to be anything funny about that. Pretend pissing on someone, then cutting off your "balls", really? It was actually hard to watch through the whole thing. It's like they came up with all the ideas for the video in 5 minutes then just decided to go for it.
I don't know, I expected a lot more when I heard about this collab, but this was a fucking trainwreck.
way to miss the point
What is the point then?
What is the point then?
the whole 'child abuse drama' ????????????????????
imo without keeping that context in mind this would make zero sense - and that still wouldn't save it from some people (understandably) calling it tasteless

Exactly that point I was ignoring, I was instead focusing on the point that this video was about how shit his "pranks" are to the children so he exaggerated that.
