For what it's worth, the trial sold me the game. Dropped a pre-order on GMG after finishing it up, so I could play it when I got home from work early Tuesday morning.
bioware arent known for their "good writing" lately either.

That's true but I doubt after the PR disaster that was the ME3 ending, EA would allow one of their largest series' to once again disappoint everyone. They only have so many IP's going for them, and I don't think they'd want one of their largest one's to just up and die.

the writing ive seen so far from videos and those little "info" snippets on your squadmates is terrible, and that Cora's backstory goes against the lore. apparently she was part of an "asari commando squad" yknow, those that were exclusively asari? hence the name? or the Duelist MP class. an asari justicar who left to do whatever else. just that justicars take that oath for life and leaving entails very severe consequences.
i wonder how a game like vampire: the masquerade - bloodlines from 2004 does.. everything so much better than a company of hundreds with a massive budget.
Nevermind this I guess

Part of Mass Effect games is learning the backstory of each character, so maybe you're right and the writers are just being incredibly incompetent this time around, or maybe they will explain how and why she became and left the Asari Commando Squad as you progress through the game.
I am just gonna wait for everyone to reach some general consensus about whether it's garbage or not before buying it.
or maybe they just wanted to retcon what asari commando squads are just so they can give Robert Z'dar there a "cool military history"
I feel like people thought that about Dead Space and look what happened to it
Fair enough, good point. Although the main problem with that was the gigantic change in tone from the previous two games, and EA meddling far too much in the story and gameplay elements of the game. In the case of this, the story and gameplay seems virtually unchanged, or straight up improved from ME3, so I don't think it'll have the same problem in that regard.

I dunno, it seems like a pretty pointless backstory to give a human character, when they could have easily just created some Human commando squad out of nowhere, without having to worry as much about going against the lore. I'm sure they have some explanation in the game, now whether or not it's a good one, who knows.
On a side note that dude does look a lot like her, wtf

Yeah, I'm sure having one of Halo 4's writers helped that.

thats what i mean. why would they say that when they couldve just made up some human black ops squad or whatever. its going to be something ridiculous like "oh shes so strong and unique so she got to play with the asari instead"
meet cora harper

Definitely does seem like a strange choice, like a pointlessly stressful one to make too since they now have to explain it(or don't if they decide to pretend the lore doesn't exist as you've said).
also wowza she's a stunner

Respectfully? This will never happen. People are going to meme about "every face and piece of dialogue is bad :(" until the end of time. Just wait for a review from a reviewer you trust, because I guarantee that you won't find anything useful from most community discussion.
The internet hate machine is a crazy thing.
Oh come on, it's nowhere near the scale of "the internet hate machine". Some minor bandwagon going on, sure, but it's not like everyone's hating on it. Most people seem pretty optimistic.
Me personally, I'm a fan of the franchise, but one that has been shat on by parts of ME2 and almost the entirety of ME3 and the latest instalment doesn't seem to leave me much room for optimism. That's why I'm aggressive about it.

What didn't you like about ME2 and ME3, out of curiousity? I know most people like the skills and stuff in ME1 more since it was more in depth, but otherwise I'm not sure what else.

That's a terrible way to view things and is one of the easiest ways to get suckered into buying a waste of game you should've bought from the bargain bin instead of release. The internet has been proven wrong about games before, and as dank as this opinion might be around here /v/ really is a good metric for the quality of a game, especially if you stick around for a week or three after release.

I don't. Because it's not what I thought it would be

Wow, there's legit better facial animation in vanilla Fallout 4
The issue is, you should not get these dank meme animation errors in your game. Let alone in a company with said budget, with that ammount of people working on it, on a ip as relevant as ME.
You can blame the hate machine as much as you want, and raise claims about it being nitpicky about issues, but those are the result of a faulty dev process and an even lazier quality control.
No matter how good your game is, these stains can and will drop the presentation of your product as a whole.
I don't know where else to post this so...
I attempted to repair how ugly the captain's face looks using photoshop. I'm not sure if it's working yet, but I believe it's an improvement somewhat.

Things changed:
Added subtle details to eyes (cast shadow from upper lid, subtle color texture on sclera)
Heavily reduced makeup on cheeks and eyes,
added better definition to lips (lacking realistic texture)
adjusted shadowing from hair on face (make it look less "wig" like)
added volume to hair
I don't think it's perfect or anything, but its a lot of basic details that bioware should be capable of creating.
now change the skeletal form to that of a human being and not a potato
She's still fairly ugly, but removing the makeup from her and Suvi would fix a lot of the issues with them.
maybe if she had actual facial animations there wouldn't be a problem
What didn't you like about ME2 and ME3, out of curiousity? I know most people like the skills and stuff in ME1 more since it was more in depth, but otherwise I'm not sure what else.
It's not the gameplay, I loved it in ME2 and ME3 even more. It's the writing and story, which I personally consider the main thing for me in Bioware games: I don't give a shit if you stutter and lisp as long as you tell me an interesting, engaging and internally consistent story. Like, the first game wasn't super strong in its plot, but the devs knew it and didn't dive too much into stuff they weren't great with. The story was executed perfectly, it was self-contained while also providing a set-up for the trilogy and the world in as much detail as needed.
ME2 brought pretty awesome characters to the table and focused more on the crew, that's great. But along with great characters came very weak ones (Miranda, Jakob) and the loyalty thing brought them into the spotlight, that's pretty bad. What's also bad is that Shepard didn't receive any development and was left to be a brick he/she was in ME, but now contrasted against more complex characters. It also killed the main character in the first couple of minutes only to render it practically meaningless since we have them back instantly and with no further development on that front. Shepard's fine with being killed, that's okay for them. They're a brick. ME2 made me replay the first game to make a femshep because Hale did a bad job at voicing a brick and femshep had some character to her. Oh, and the final boss was insulting.
ME3... I think I ran it into the ground at this point. Gameplay was great, Tuchanka was neat, Geth-Quarian conflict was great (apart from Legion deciding to die for our sins), the original cast excluding Virmire survivor were great (we can kill VS though, so that's a plus). No sidequests, the plot was hot garbage, macguffin didn't make any sense, EDI became a sexbot for no fucking reason, villains sucked balls and the ending was dogshit in a bag sewn from rotting foreskins. Oh, yeah, almost forgot, it ruined Samara, fuck them in particular for that.
The weirdest thing about all these animation errors is that most of them take a maximum of 15 seconds to fix
Or did they really not feel like spending the 5 seconds turning a gun so it faces the right way in a characters hand and then putting it in the official trailer for everybody to see
The thing is, other games have automatically rendered facial animations that blow this game out of the water. What the fuck?
now change the skeletal form to that of a human being and not a potato
Oh come on man, potatoes aren't that ugly.
