He is a real person, accessible, with a public agenda. That alone is refreshing in this corporate shill world. We and countless others would never even be talking about pharmaceuticals and insurance if it wasn't for him.
That's literally not true. 1) Insurance is my job 2) the medical field is one of the most talked about elements of our society today due to the harm and help that it can offer

This is true. You can't debate this.
That's literally not true. 1) Insurance is my job 2) the medical field is one of the most talked about elements of our society today due to the harm and help that it can offer
Obviously the medical field is a huge talking point but the workings of big pharma are not really something that the masses are really educated nor really talking about. The medical system for most people is just simply whether or not we get treatment. Most of us simply view the medical field as our interactions between us and doctors/physicians because as consumers that is our interaction. We don't tend to find out some of the bullshit that happens with medication prices until we get hit with one of these expensive to treat diseases. Sure you would be talking about insurance, it's your job, but I for one would've had no idea about anything to do with drug prices besides the fact that I wish me reflux meds were a bit cheaper.

Healthcare? Definitely would be discussed. I deal with that on a literal daily basis. People literally have no idea what they pay for, and that's entirely their fault. They aren't typically interested in figuring out what they have, or how things work because it's complex. With that being said, if your typical person had more interest in what kind of coverages they were buying, we'd be in a better place in regards to this situation.
Used to hate the fuck out of this dude until I did some reading on my own. While I still think his decision to raise the price of drugs to a high amount was ridiculous. He was at the time proving a point He's an arsehole but hes got something that makes me really respect him
Fucking hell 3:20 is amazing.

[editline]23rd December 2016[/editline]
but as someone profiting off of it
Martin is not making a profit on the drug. Watch a_pigeon's video above.

[editline]23rd December 2016[/editline] Martin is not making a profit on the drug. Watch a_pigeon's video above.
so his company never made a single, solitary dime of net profit from that action? Not even from the amount of increased premium that insurance companies would cover? They genuinely generated 0 profit?
so his company never made a single, solitary dime of net profit from that action? Not even from the amount of increased premium that insurance companies would cover? They genuinely generated 0 profit?
He claims they take a net loss from it.
so his company never made a single, solitary dime of net profit from that action? Not even from the amount of increased premium that insurance companies would cover? They genuinely generated 0 profit?
Yes. Watch the video. The company has never made a profit. It actually loses money. They give away 65% for free, and any money made is invested into research for a new drug that doesnt have horrendous side effects. In the video, Martin states that the drug has only a few thousand users. Before his company bought the rights and raised the price, a few hundred could not afford/access the drug. After his purchase, only several have been unable to get it. Seriously, watch the video. I can 100% guarantee it will change your opinion on him and his actions.
I love this man
Ive been out of the loop for a while with this. Can someone fill me in on why we dont hate Shkreli anymore? Was his raising the price of shit justified in some way? Not trying to criticize him, just curious because the last time I heard about him was during the shitstorm about him.

Wow this woman is stupid
It doesn't make it right, but it makes it easy to spot who's uninformed and spewing melodrama when they omit this info.

there's 1.2 million people in the US with HIV, about half of those are probably earning above 60k, that's a lot of people, on top of this those who want insurance will now have their insurance premiums jacked up to ridiculous levels thanks to this. He's screwed over thousands of people in so many ways it's not even funny.

They give away 65% for free

In the video, Martin states that the drug has only a few thousand users. After his purchase, only several have been unable to get it.
This is why it's important to actually investigate the numbers a little. carcarcargo has repeatedly exaggerated the impacts the price hike to Daraprim has actually had in order to reinforce this projection of Shkreli as being a moustache-twiddling heartless capitalist who's milking the health care system and harming huge swaths of the population while running a smoke-screen feelgood campaign that allegedly barely works. It's a popular misconception, fuelled by our overall distrust and hatred of big pharma and their reported record profits while raising drug prices and profiting off of the rotting medical safety net while the standard of living for the average citizen continues to fall. When the price-hike story first broke, I thought Shkreli was a monster, and then it turns out that his actions still look greedy but aren't nearly as bad as thought. He's no saint, but he's smart, savvy, and witty, and if you want to hate rich people there are so many better and more deserving targets first.
there's 1.2 million people in the US with HIV, about half of those are probably earning above 60k, that's a lot of people, on top of this those who want insurance will now have their insurance premiums jacked up to ridiculous levels thanks to this.
Well I think the usual cabal that hates him haven't chimed in yet. https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1544875 But yeah it went downhill in this thread pretty fast.
I fucking hate Shkreli, but he isn't doing anything that any other billionaire in this country doesn't do. He's just in your face and blunt about it rather than scheming behind your back. But at the same time he's also the age where the internet has been around most of his life and he knows it, rather than knows of it, and is all over it kind of like a famous streamer or youtuber who are your every day sort of people that are just well known, and so he's also kind of relatable for a lot of people
Watch the above video where he talks to the HIV guy, he claims he did it to ignite research into alternatives to the drug due to the ill side effects it causes as well as how old it is, he also apparently gives 65% of it out for free and takes a net loss from all of this.
We have Shkreli's word for that and nothing else, could be complete and utter bullshit which it probably is.
honey lemme tell you something UHM sweetheart IS HE ON METH?! uhm you stoner ass ENTITLED white man
We have Shkreli's word for that and nothing else, could be complete and utter bullshit
Fair enough, but going by innocent until proven guilty, i want to see evidence to the contrary.
which it probably is.
Why. No, really, whats your reasoning? Source? Links? Statistics? Explain.
Why. No, really, whats your reasoning? Source? Links? Statistics? Explain.
Because he's a stereotypical PR man who knows how to spin stuff. If he doesn't release the official figures he's probably lying.
And you're still on the "man fuck this guy for all this bullshit" when half the shit you said was proven incorrect like a page ago. Im open to any legit shit proving he's lying about it but until i see it, i wont believe it.
Because he's a stereotypical PR man who knows how to spin stuff. If he doesn't release the official figures he's probably lying.
Lol really, thats the best you got? [editline]22nd December 2016[/editline] Here let me highlight that word for you.
"PROBABLY."
See that? Thats not a fact, thats a probably, which is a maybe, which is a so-so, which is an i dont know. Its not evidence, its a presumptuous guess.
Fair enough, but going by innocent until proven guilty, i want to see evidence to the contrary.
uhhh that's not how innocent until proven guilty works at all why are you asking carcarcargo to prove that shkreli's lying instead of asking shkreli to prove that he's not?
uhhh that's not how innocent until proven guilty works at all why are you asking carcarcargo to prove that shkreli's lying instead of asking shkreli to prove that he's not?
Thats... Thats exactly how it works though. He's innocent... Until proven guilty. Carcarcargo is claiming he's lying, the burden of proof is on him. [editline]23rd December 2016[/editline] Like what the fuck, how did you type that out and not realize what you said :v:
Thats... Thats exactly how it works though He's innocent... Until proven guilty (of lying, in this case). Carcarcargo is claiming he's lying, the burden of proof is on him. [editline]23rd December 2016[/editline] Like what the fuck, how did you type that out and not realize what you said :v:
I said he's probably lying, key word being probably, since he's a typical shady CEO. You can't possibly prove he's lying since that would require him to release the data, which if he's lying he's obviously not going to do that is he.
I said he's probably lying, key word being probably, since he's a typical shady CEO. You can't possibly prove he's lying since that would require him to release the data, which if he's lying he's obviously not going to do that is he.
So that means everything you're saying means absolutely fucking nothing and shouldnt be taken seriously by anyone because you're making a nearly baseless claim you cant back up with evidence or even a solid argument is what you're saying. Because you're doing the whole confirmation bias thing. "He's SHIT" "Why?" "Because he's LYING" "Why?" "Because he's SHIT" Rinse, repeat, ad infinitum.
How is he a typical shady CEO? Do must CEO's you know live stream and talk to people who specifically have problems with them?
So that means everything you're saying means absolutely fucking nothing and shouldnt be taken seriously by anyone because you're making a nearly baseless claim you cant back up with evidence or even a solid argument is what you're saying. "Because he's SHIT"
The fuck are you even talking about, I'm saying that him saying that stuff proves nothing because it's literally only his word and his business choices suggest he's a shithead so there's no reason to believe his word on that unless he reveals said data. But please don't let me stop you worshipping your beloved memelord. [editline]23rd December 2016[/editline]
How is he a typical shady CEO?
The fuck are you even talking about, I'm saying that him saying that stuff proves nothing because it's literally only his word and his business choices suggest he's a shithead so there's no reason to believe his word on that unless he reveals said data.
I love it when people cant see irony.
I love it when people cant see irony.
Yeah I'm sure he's totally a lovely charitable man who raises drug prices 500%
