Well they are highly trained soldiers I don't think they should miss anything from med-close range. Soldiers die super fast in this now, but so do you. In half-life 1 the grunts were fucking bullet sponges.
I think they just need to put a tad more spread on their guns, even at range they're a bit too accurate to fight, especially in large numbers like the rocket silo courtyard section, god that bit was a nightmare.
wow that medical bot of death part is an amazing improvement
Aren't they also adding MP along with Xen?

Yeah the Xen update will also add the deathmatch.
Black Mesa Source doesn't have the amazing anti-gravitational table

0/10 would not play. Seriously though, the game's fucking great. Get it now.
The team said they're going to make Xen "a game of it's own" and I'm totally okay with that.
I hope you'll be able to run into other members of the survey team who are still alive and work together blasting aliens in jolly extra-dimensional co-operation
Black mesa source while nice looking is nothing compared to the origional. They removed vast areas such as on a rail, which was about 75% longer, they removed the challenge of many puzzles, and they haven't even finished xen yet.
Black mesa source is for people who have played HL1 and want to play it with nicer graphics and stuff, otherwise play HL1, it's better gameplay wise.
I couldn't disagree harder.
On A Rail was one of my least favorite sections as there was so much backtracking that it felt padded and unnecessary.
I will say that I did not like how they got rid of some of the puzzles and dumbed down the others, but the overhauled shooting mechanics and beautiful graphics make up for it ten fold. I enjoyed playing BM more than HL1 (mostly because, unlike some people, I did not grow up with HL1 despite buying and playing it 2 years ago. Thus, nostalgia doesn't cloud my vision as much) and found it overall to be a major improvement.
I will say it, I think Black Mesa is actually better than Half Life. That doesn't mean Half Life is bad, goodness no, but when you overlook the nostalgia you see it hasn't aged all that well to be honest. Half Life was very influential in the shooter genre and the gaming market in general, but now the same mechanics that made it special have been used and reused by every other game that they became kind of bland, and it's nice to see it remade with more modern graphics and gameplay standards.

I found the railway part in HL1 really dragging on to long, to me it feels like the pacing in BM is alot better in general.

I thought exactly the same, they kept up better pace of action in black mesa.

I agree. When I saw "On the Rail" I was dreading it but than it was over in a relatively reasonable time frame and I was like "Oh c: "
The HL1 On The Rail portion was far too long and I always had trouble not dying horribly especially whilst running out of ammunition, getting knocked of the train, getting shot to death etc.

I played Half life 1 loads with my dad when I was younger and I really have to admit, Black Mesa is a hell of a lot better and has taken out a lot of the tedious sections from HL1 (for example as you mentioned, On a rail, which really dragged on a lot longer than it should have)
One thing that really let me down about BM was "On A Rail". Probably the longest chapter in Half-life made the shortest in BM.
I don't mean that they should recreate it entirely, but the little they did was just a bit sad.
That's all the bad I have to say though, the rest is donkyballstastic.
BMS is in my opinion worse than HL1 gameplay wise, the graphics are awesome though
In general it just felt really unpolished
Although I did hate On A Rail in HL1, it had its moments, BMS just replaced it with going along a track on a glitchy train getting shot at by turrets for a few minutes
Also for a good laugh type in host_timescale 0.1 on the assassin part, the animations are broken as fuck
[editline]16th September 2012[/editline]
Also plugs, so many puzzles were replaced with plugs
I thought the gameplay, atmosphere, music/sounds, were amazing in BMS. HL1 will always have a special place in my heart, but I honestly would prefer to play BMS over HL1 now just because of how immersed I get into it.
I dont get immersed by glitching out on a ladder 50% of the time and falling to my death
Also a some of the music was ear breakinly bad or unfitting (Blast Pit was probably the worst)

Not the dev's fault that you don't know how to use the e button.
The Anomalous Materials part was really polished and good though, actually anything before Blast Pit felt really polished, then the quality went pretty downhill and caught up about after you get captured

Use the use key
I died ALOT in BMS. Alot more than I did in HL1. Even on easy mode grunts kills you so fast

I found it to be pretty opposite, on easy mode everything did pretty much 1 damage per hit (with the exception of the sniper tanks), on normal anything killed you in 10 hits
Also lack of leeches 0/10
i do not normally say this
in fact i don't think i've ever said this
But Black Mesa is Half life 1. Just better. Yes, they were standing on the shoulders of giants, but it's true.
Black Mesa is Half Life 1: Better Edition.
When your cart busts through a wall and lands in the water I was fucking lost and had no idea what to do. Then I saw the barrels and it dawned on me.
It's a physics puzzle. I was in awe for no good reason.

Good to know they achieved their goal then.

The lack of leeches annoyed me in certain areas. Right now I can't remember the certain spot, but there's a specific area which kind of RELIED on them in HL1 which now.. Just had nothing.
I absolutely love BM so far, but not quite so much that I can mentally project it as a replacement of the original HL. They're still separate games in my mind.
Their re-imagining of most areas is 100% spot-on. The transition to HD feels completely natural, being original whilst retaining the general likeness to its original. The sounds are good, the textures are gorgeous (the ones looking like spruced up originals surprised me pleasantly). Anomalous Materials, Office Complex and Questionable Ethics make particularly excellent HD experiences.
I'm not completely sold however. I find personally that the way they've shortened the levels messes with the well-known Half-Life pacing somewhat. Most of the voice acting was good but some of it is outright cringe-worthy (like when an attempt to stay true to the original lines end up sounding awkward, or contrary-wise a really contrived re-writing).
