I dont get immersed by glitching out on a ladder 50% of the time and falling to my death
Also a some of the music was ear breakinly bad or unfitting (Blast Pit was probably the worst)
Press E, ladders are perfectly fine when you do that, otherwise it's like trying to fight without being able to strafe.
lol Chirno is rating everyone dumb
he hated the mod because the movement isn't exactly the same as the first half-life

You mean to tell me the floors aren't coated in lube?
Damn it, fuck everything!!
GODDAMIT
What is the fucking point in the mod if you can't move at an unhuman speed constantly? Fuck this gay mod, If you think otherwise you are being rated dumb.
Black mesa is impressive as fuck, I mean holy shit it feels like I'm playing 8 years of dedication ffs.
[editline]16th September 2012[/editline]
Also that fucking atmosphere. Terrifying sometimes.
I wish they more of those announcements in levels like We've Got Hostiles like they did in HL1, having that computerized voice telling everyone to report topside for "questioning" while you watched them gun down scientists was really atmospheric at times. But still, that's trivial. This mod is fucking amazing.

It was a joke about about Chirno if you'd read
If you honestly think half life is better than black mesa you need to clean your glasses because they're obviously clouded in nostalgia. The original half life was amazing for its time, but it's aged like shit. I want to still love it, but it just feels so clunky and awkward. It's impossible for me to get myself immersed at all in half life. The layout is awkward, the gunplay just feels off, and the pacing is all over the place. Not to mention its textures are so freaking blurry that your mind has trouble recognizing what some things might be.
Black Mesa basically took all the good unique aspects of half life and gave them the presentation they deserve. It feels slick and well though out, with just a crazy level of attention given to perfecting everything that was so great about half life. It's overall just better.

Half life is good and to be honest aged quite well, but it's still 14 years old so of course it's not going to hold up against a reproduction done on a much newer engine.

I've been wondering, what the hell is Houndeye Tinnitus?
my only problem was the v_model animations
i mean they are pretty bad
When your cart busts through a wall and lands in the water I was fucking lost and had no idea what to do. Then I saw the barrels and it dawned on me.
It's a physics puzzle. I was in awe for no good reason.
That happens to me every time I replay HL1. I've beaten it maybe 6 times now and I still always get tripped up at that same part :v:.

It aged terribly, I've bought some copies of it for my friends and none of them had any desire to see it through to the end. The only reason I've beaten it was because I forced myself too because I had nothing else to play.
The only people who think half life aged well are the people who grew up playing it. At least that's how it seems from my point of view.

If you're hurt by a houndeye's blast you become deaf and are treat to earscreeching EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Y know, some other games have it if a explosion goes off near you, that thing

After the houndeyes do the sonic explosion thing, there's that ringing in your ears if houndeye tinnitus is turned on.

Fuuuuck.

Getting hit by a houndeye blast thing gives a different effect from getting caught in explosions.
I thought the cliff/rock displacements in one of those above-ground parts (surface tension, maybe) looked nasty compared to the original. I think it's because they replaced quite sharply defined, good-lookin' rocks with what was essentially a barely textured smoothed out blob.
Other than that it all looks amazing
BMS would be great if it had xen i.e. it was finished.
It needs to be finished right now.
I couldn't finish HL1 because I glitched when I got knocked out by marines after first fighting the assasin chicks.
Now I've gotten past that part but I still haven't been to Xen in all my life.
It's very sad.
it's like on a rail doesn't exist in BM
and i am perfectly fine with that
FUCK on a rail.
Yeah I always hated On a Rail too. Annoying shit.
Hey Chirno why dont you actually voice your opinion instead of rating everyone dumb and hiding.
the only problem i have with BMS is that the textures look like they came out of fakefactory's mods.
the thing about creating a realistic texture is that you have to understand how the eye sees detail, games don't accurately depict detail in the way your eyes do.
in Valve's games the texture work is made based on where it's used and how it'll appear to the eye at the distance it's seen.
in BMS it seems all textures are made based on how they look when they are right in front of you.

with your real eyes you'll never see those cracks and details because the eye doesn't perceive them that way, the details become diffuse.
just a small nitpick but it bothered me a bit

I agree; that hyper-detailed texturing just draws attention to the fact that the world is made up of simple primitive forms with images slapped onto them, as it makes us realise that there are no protruding details.
that sounded almost poetic
like deep, man
like, we're all just primitive forms with images slapped on us dude

The nice thing is that I only noticed that problem in a few environments, mainly the "run-down" ones. Lamba Core was damned near perfect, in my opinion, and whoever was responsible for designing/modelling/texturing this thing deserves a goddamn medal.

The steam outlets at the top and the bottom are just amazing in their placement and timing. I can't play this game yet (internet runs through a proxy so no steam access) but from the videos it just looks like a brilliant piece of design
I loved lamba complex
But oh god that pit for the ladder to come up in at the end teleporter
I fell into that like 10 fucking times
Thanks for this, I've only played half life for just a few seconds so I didn't know how it differs.

sometimes all we need is a func_brush to seal us up and protect us from the void
Lambda Complex and perhaps surface tension were the most stunning looking chapters imo.
