Chirno, are you going to post explaining why you think this damn good game is dumb?

He does the same thing in a lot of other threads too, just ignore it, he's an idiot.
lol i thought they got kleiner's real voice actor for BMS, it sounds so perfect
The most badass little touch I've seen in a long time is how cool the revolver cylinder looks when it's spinning while half of it's covered in Bullsquid acid.
Oh wow, didn't even expect this thread to get so popular :v:
Almost 100 ratings, 5000 views. Thanks everyone
the only songs that really fit was, I think, 'we got hostiles' and 'surface tension 1'. The rest couldn't have broke the immersion more.
IMO I think they did a great job with all of the music.
I didn't hate On a Rail. It was a game within a game - you get lost, you find your own way out, but also you become one with the rail and don't want to leave. It stands out because it's different from the rest of the game. It had a great impact on me.
Im not sure exactly where it was but when that one scientist just jumps through the window, i was disappointed that he died like right afterwards. I wanted him to stand back up and say "Greetings"

Once I learned where to go, On A Rail was done pretty quickly. They made it much more linear in BMS but what I missed the most was this one area where the soldiers had a nest with heavy machine gun. It was a nice fight or you could just skip it and continue without your cart.
I am not the only one who seriously enjoyed the chance to explore places on the half life 1 "On the Rail" I was kind of disappointed to see how much BM removed of it.

Some people aren't easily entertained by superfast advancing plot with ADHD shootan' shit on every fucking corner. Some people enjoy and find the things fun that happen BETWEEN the shootin stuff.
(not saying that I hate the combat of BM, it was excellent and challenging)
On A Rail had a bunch of interesting placed that I would've loved to re-visit. The area with the headcrab-infested bottom of the rocket launch tube, the long straight rail where you have to dodge rocket launcher shots, and let's not forget the storage area where HECU and Vortigaunts duke it out as you're crawling through a vent below the carnage, only to pop up behind a mounted MG and spray everyone with lead indiscriminately.
I had forgotten how annoying headcrabs were.
i was amazed when i first played it the graphics and sound just blew my fucking balls off
why did i get a graphic image in my head of a fat greasy guy playing BM and just jizzing while his balls explode like firecrackers
BMS looks fucking amazing, the dialog and all that shit, all that little shit that doesnt even have to happen but its there(dialog or events), the music is great, really shows how HL1 has aged.
But HL1 has this charm to it for me at least that you cant beat by looking better.
I will just post my opinion/story/wall of text.
I first played HL on the PS2 a few years ago (other models then PC)
The many, many times I played through Half Life, oh god, maybe around 40 times.
It was just amazing back in the day.
But as the time passed
my PS2 got sold and there was a gap.
Until I discovered steam back in august 2007
I bought HL again, but only played through it 3 or 4 times
(Also, I was messing with HD pack but gave up on that)
I tried to play through it several times recently, but I really can't.
It just shows it´s age, it is still a great game.
But when you are used to newer graphics and shit, it is hard to continue playing HL
The nostalgia value is not enough, atleast for me.
HL has its flaws, too.
But when it gets to Black Mesa, it makes everything fresh.
The ability to live the great story of HL again, in a polished, reimagend way.
Is just an awesome feeling. Many things that bothered me in HL like
On a Rail, Leeches, Odd puzzles and other things were fixed.
Many areas in HL where you had no idea what it was, make alot of more sense now.
It just brings back, that intense atmosphere of HL.
BM has its own flaws but it is just a great remake.
Sure the gameplay has changed,
but HL and BM do it right, in their own way.
Sure you can argue about many changes but it is mostly balanced, mostly.
(Will get to that part later)
My point is, both are great.
I think you can´t really compare both aka
say which one is better/worse because they have different expectations/standards to fulfill.
You can´t just take HL, polish it up and release it.
It will always feel a little bit "sucked dry" with old game play, mechanics etc.
You have to think about Half Life as a hole, and make it up to today's standards
And that is what Black Mesa did, it just scraped everything over
and tried to find a path between the old HL and today's expectations.
And the BM devs did a really good job, didn't they?
But one thing, my biggest issue are the HECU,
I played Black Mesa on hard mode, and believe me
When the soldiers came, I was a fastsave/fastload whore.
These soldiers were to damn powerful, reacted way to fast,
had an amazing accuracy, damage was very fucking high.
Damage falloff was pretty much non-existant.
The Combine Soldiers on hard are nothing against those.
Even my CSS ratio is better, compared to BM:suicide:
Can´t say HECU weren´t challenging, but thats one big balance issue in my eyes.
Hope that it is fixed for the steam version, otherwise I am going to change sk_* settings myself.
Thanks for reading this huge pile of text.
Also I am german, so please don´t go grammar-nazi on me.
If you still want to correct me, send me an PM, don´t want to derail this thread.:v:

This is mostly Source's fault itself, but there were a few encounters where the game refused to let me go down the ladder, because when you face a certain direction both the forward and backward keys make you go up. I kept trying to pop my head out to make a shot and then go back down, but instead it made me climb up, resulting in countless deaths.

It's weird whenever I read one of these posts because In ever had a problem with the ladders. Even if I try to make myself bug out on the ladder I'm still pretty stable on them. I do sometimes feel that the up/down controls are a little iffy on the ladder, however.
BMS looks fucking amazing, the dialog and all that shit,...
Once I heard the guy in the beginning go "Aw you cut off the ponytail! Sellout", I knew it was going to be a great game.
It should have done the thing that Halo Anniversary did. Where on the 360 you pressed select and it would switch to the exact same scene and location but from the first Halo
Only trouble I have with Source ladders is dismounting. I get the feeling it can't see to decide whether or not it expects me to use E/Space or if it's gonna release me on its own. Also, on the rarer occasion I find myself not being able to mount a ladder when approaching from an oblique angle. Sure, in GoldSrc you could end up halfway to neverland if you climbed a ladder sloppily but at least it was easy to control when you were attached to a ladder and when you were not!
IMO I think they did a great job with all of the music.
The music itself is great, Joel Nielsen did a great job on it (especially if you consider the little tributes to the original soundtrack like using the drum theme from D. A. Guitar in Surface Tension 1 and Forget About Freeman) it's just that it was poorly placed most of the times, especially in Blast Pit.
Is it wrong that my favorite game of the year is an incomplete mod remake?
