So as to thin out the amount of traffic per site thereby avoiding the 100k call cap? I doubt it, but I can't say for sure. I imagine that some of those sites are popular enough that the 100k could easily be reached on some days.

Right, just theorizing.
I cant imagine Valve would approve of those sites, anyway, even from a "grr soulless moneygrubbing machine" standpoint, as far as im aware they dont get any money from what goes on on the gambling sites.
It's sad some people defending csgolotto because they hold gambling as a high form economic freedom
Could valve disable this on their site? Absolutely. Should they? Also absolutely.
I don't think they should. Disabling OpenID authentication which many sites use legitimately (PCGamesN, SteamDB, Facepunch 2.0 and way more) is absolutely not the way to deal with this crap. Maybe blacklisting the gambling sites would be a better option, but that's a hackfix at best. Shutting down the trading APIs that these sites use could be a better option, but other legitimate uses would also be shut down with this.

It's the equivalent some kid getting roasted in front of a class and retreating to the comfort of his friends, pretending he doesn't care. Deliberately laughing louder than usual to prove it.
When it comes to valve, they usually get something done. Eventually.

Sadly things not to escalate to higher levels and media attention before they do anything. Reddit being filled with h3h3's videos did help

im sure he's laughing while swimming through his piles of money, considering the massive amount that he's made so far.
I think he's acting like that because he knows nothing will happen to him.

It appears things started to get into motion. If Valve blocks out the website completely then they would be a massive hit for the website and because he owns the website it would also hurt him
They've already made a killing.
Just becuase they wont anymore, doesn't mean any real legal action will be taken against him.
I don't see an issue with this at all, honestly. It's people giving these real world monetary values to virtual items, not Valve. Monetary value that doesn't even translate into actual cash, but more like store credit that can only be spent in one place. And furthermore, it's ridiculous to blame Valve for someone's gambling addiction. It's called self control because it comes from you, not someone else. AND it's completely third party and uses trading of virtual items to bot accounts.
The only actual 'gambling' that IS Valve's fault is the opening of crates, but again you're paying for virtual items, not paying to win cash
Saying that csgo items is only store credit being spent in one place is so blind. People sell and buy through other methods such as paypal as well. Which Paypal can be pretty much used anywhere, even have money sent directly to your bank and you can physically hold the cash you got from your expensive knife in your hands.
And the shady practices of the youtubers promoting the site on their page, that they own, but are acting as if they just found it. Knowing very well that some of their viewers will want to be like them, or already have an addiction, and try the website out themselves.
Other than that, I don't see how underage gambling isn't an issue to you. Gambling addictions can ruin a person's life.

Wouldn't he be able to just make a new site and continue the shady practices on it? Unless legal action is taken against him, blocking the website just seems like a band aid solution from valve.

Not sure if anyone posted this yet, but TmarTn privated every single CSGO gambling video he had up and also disabled ratings and comments on all of his videos overall.

Wasn't TF2 the first Valve game to have crates?
Also, http://www.tf2lobby.com was taken down due to unlawful gambling. Not by Valve though.

yeah but the CS:GO economy was the first one to have items that constantly retain their value.
specially since dota's items lose their value due to valve fucking it all up except for rare early items

God dammit, that was one of my favorite eSports teams...
I don't mind kids gambling, it's their own responsibility. What caught my eye was the fact that the owner was gambling on his OWN site. That's bullshit.

How could this even happen?
TF2 Lobby was a matchmaking website, where you could organize PUGs. It died because the creator stopped caring about it.
It is now replaced by tf2center.com and tf2stadium.com
Source: I used to play on TF2 lobby all the time before it went down.

Envyus have already responded, he did advertising for them for a small amount of equity.

Their response.
Yeah I don't remember TF2Lobby having gambling at all, it must have been something else.
