The part of her argument about how homosexuality is a choice I think wasn't terrible. Honestly it shouldn't even be part of the debate whether it is a choice or not, because that doesn't alter our ethical stance to it.

OK, I know that in America you have quite strong views on freedom of speech and that people should be allowed to say what they want. But honestly? Personally, I think hate speech should be illegal, and I'm glad it is. Admittedly, I think sometimes people overreact (for instance, racist jokes are so rarely made for the sake of racism so much as that it's simply telling a joke), but as long as we allow these people to say these things, the longer they'll think it's perfectly OK to do so. Even this isn't a perfect plan, as they'll probably see themselves as martyrs for a good cause, but I honestly think people like the KKK, the WBC, and even this chick, should at the least be reprimanded (imprisonment would probably be too severe unless they were inciting hatred in others) for implying that one kind of person is inferior to another just because of a trait they can't control.
Speaking a little more on-topically, I feel sorry for this chick more than anything. She's of a generation of profound tolerance and openness, for the most part, and it's depressing that she's probably been raised to think this way without being given a chance to know anything about the other side of the story.

It's not freedom of speech if you limit people. The only tolerated limits should be stuff like shouting "Fire" in a movie theatre, etc. The KKK have the right to their opinions and we have the right to disagree with them. Defining hate speech is also hard. Imagine the American religious right using hate speech laws to limit athiests, etc.

Those are good points you have there, and you're completely right in that it can be abused both ways. It's hypocritical to try and give people equal rights by restricting the things they can say, but what other way is there to try and change them? I'm a rehabilitation kind of person, and I'd rather not confine bigots to a life of pointless hatred. I just feel like there's something we can do, the trouble is most of their ideas are based upon other ideas that are impossible to disprove- this is why so many homophobes are religious, it's impossible to prove them 'wrong' unless you also disprove that their personal idea of God exists.

Yeah but as stated earlier gay couples don't have the option of "traditional", reproductive intercourse, and may therefore be more likely to engage in anal sex and other alternatives.
Regarding urges, I don't know. If someone is sexually attracted to the same gender but for whatever reason wishes consummate with the opposite gender (perhaps in order to have children) than one would hope that conscious thought would prevail over primitive instinct, at least I would.
This applies to everything, be it not eating unhealthy foods because they taste good or not having sex with children because of ethical and juristical reasons, even though you're attracted to them (which is why pedophilia is a valid comparision). Of course you may disagree with repressing sexual urges for religious reasons, but that's an entirely different question.
