Reminds me of that fanmade HL3 trailer, with the supersoldiers and all.
very innacurate lore wise ugh. they wouldn't have AR-2's. that combine synth already uses trans-human experimentation eventhough it's the first time combines come to earth. yadda yadda yadda, there's just so much stuff they got wrong in a 50 second clip, wtf. the reason so many aspiring video makers get HL2 shit wrong is because half-life doesn't have a unnecessarily detailed lore like star wars, w40k, etc... leaving it is very ambigue. therefore if you get one thing wrong the whole thing looks very off/unbalanced. did they ever look closely at the AR-2? it looks completely inspired on the human AR-15 which leads us to think that the combine probably made that gun after settling on Earth (again, very ambigue universe: you have to make most of your own conclusions). the original combine's got a very organic and alien look to it, the new combine's got a geometrical essence. why do the combine synth models they chose have human traits even though it's the first time the combine ever come to our planet? really. if you wanna do a successful half-life video just take a day to read all about it because honestly there really isn't much to read. i'm a die hard fan of half-life, and i'm pretty sure this bothered other fp'ers. this was a rant post and i'm honestly mad.
I'm with you on that boat, man. Plus the music was super hollywood-esque. I wish the dude would spend his talent on making something unique and true to half life (or not make a half life video), instead of grabbing a textbook called "generic action movie cliches: all you need to know" and followed it blindly. This is a good example: Yes, it breaks the lore even more, and it's not SFM, but it has got the feeling right. Judging from Eli's "This time, we won't last 7 minutes", I think combine used something really powerful in the 7 hour war. Something that they wanted to send again through the portal in EP2. Something we haven't seen yet.
Combine Super Soldiers were suppose to be strider-sized though. They look silly when they're this small.
Dunno why people are disagreeing, it's said in HL2: Raising the bar that it was dropped due to it's size in the citadel levels. It was meant to be pretty huge compared to ground troops. Given the concept art and the actual model that is still the preview image for the combine elite soldier in the model viewer, it's also pretty clear that it's probably a synth or all machine. Looks a lot like the Strider in some respects, especially the weird spiked (hairy?) bits. [t]http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20091223235451/half-life/en/images/f/fd/Strider_crouched.jpg[/t] ^ Not the best image, but you can probably see what I meant in regards to the spiky bits. [editline]e[/editline] Also, about the video: I felt like the elite soldiers (the thin ones) were animated way too much like Star Wars battle droids or something. It just doesn't look right. (not to mention both the elite synth soldiers and the super soldier are some-how part human according to some wikis, meaning they wouldn't be in the 7 hour war).
It's been ten years goddamnit. TEN YEARS! I remember setting up Steam and preparing to play HL2 for the first time clear as an azure sky of deepest summer. I'm an old dog
wow so historical inaccuracies in movies are a thing in hl2 machinimas too

Giving Source Filmmaker was one of Valve's best decisions. Hopefully they will have Source 2 incorporated into SFM as soon as it's finished. Would be sad to see having everybody work with an outdated engine.

It was to be seen in the Citadel", so while they might have been bigger than the normal troops they definitely weren't massive.
Cool, but inaccurate lore-wise. Why would they be fighting in a desert when by the time the 7 hour war started most of the Earth's population had moved to fortified cities since the Xen wildlife was teleported all over the globe because of the portal storms? That's just me being a killjoy, though. Maybe it'll still be awesome regardless of that.
Yeah but there are always those people, and whole communities that are like "this is my home fuck you all i'm not leaving"
Combine Super Soldiers were suppose to be strider-sized though. They look silly when they're this small.
They're supposed to be like 12 feet tall iirc

By the time of EP2 all that mankind had were the rebels and Gordon Freeman. So maybe that's what Eli meant.
The music was ripped from the Terran Republic theme in Planetside 2 :v:
And I'd like to imagine that the reason why it only lasted 7 hours is because of the portal storms already decreasing troop morale to a low, then they also have to fight a big organized army(instead of just wild animals) and that they would just surrender.
i always find it funny when people brag about the combine's all powerfulness when a single man with a crowbar, a goatee, and a glorified hazmat suit took them out in like two days.
i always find it funny when people brag about the combine's all powerfulness when a single man with a crowbar, an assortment of firearms, explosives, a gravity gun, a goatee, and powered armor took them out in like two days with the assistance of the resistance and a dude who's capable of stopping time, teleportation and stuff
Does anybody else want a 7 hour war comic like how they did with L4Ds The Sacrifice, or Portal's Ratman?
Does anybody else want a 7 hour war comic like how they did with L4Ds The Sacrifice, or Portal's Ratman?
I think valve have totally forgotten that they ever had a franchise called half life at some point.
i always find it funny when people brag about the combine's all powerfulness when a single man with a crowbar, a goatee, and a glorified hazmat suit took them out in like two days.
they do kinda justify that though. what the Combine does is, they take a planet in a few hours with their implausibly tough main attack dudes, transform the planet's population into extra soldiers and take all the resources, and then the tough guys leave to go take other planets and repeat the cycle, while the left over guys stick around to make sure everything goes smoothly and kill any resistance. so the only dudes left are the ones too shit to attack any planet with, and that's how a former rent-a-cop, some idiots in denim shirts, and a bunch of basement-dwelling nerds can take on a galactic empire
Does anybody else want a 7 hour war comic like how they did with L4Ds The Sacrifice, or Portal's Ratman?
I don't see much of a plot besides Combine steamrolling through already fucked-over military forces of Earth primarily with Synths. Maybe something about Citadels teleporting in fortified cities - in which pretty much everybody went into because of portal storms - and Combine quickly taking control of them. But even then it probably would be Seven minute conquest.
Start the story when the world is normal. And then, portal storms, thousands of them. End it just before the events of HL2
I was meaning making a comic only about 7HW though, as I thought post I quoted meant that.
This is complete fucking garbage please never do anything with our precious Half-Life ever again.
I'm not arguing with you, I'm just making a statement related to your post.
I'm not arguing either, guess confusion got me there. Sorry.
This is complete fucking garbage please never do anything with our precious Half-Life ever again.
I liked it, and people like you are awful. I'ts obviously not supposed to be a fucking 100% legit lore recreation of the seven hour war. It's a goddamn video practice. It's one minute of fighting and it's not even supposed to be very serious. The dude's animations were pretty great, it was entertaining to watch, that's all that matters.
The desert, the clusterfuck of people and explosions, and the droid looking synths. Sort of reminds me of the Battle of Geonosis.
The desert, the clusterfuck of people and explosions, and the droid looking synths. Sort of reminds me of the Battle of Geonosis.
Heck, the thumbnail alone instantly reminded me of Geonosis.
I Wish there were some good mods set during the portal storm era. I know 1187 is set during the portal storms but that mod is pretty terrible. The only other mod I could think of is Opposing Force 2, but I'm pretty sure it is set a few months after the 7 hour war.
