Opposing Force 2, but I'm pretty sure it is set a few months after the 7 hour war.
That mod has been released?
am i the only one who thought it was p cool you had American soldiers and terrorists fighting next to each other.
If this shit happened a few years back when the height of the iraq and Afghanistan war it wouldn't be religion or terrorism issues the whole fucking world would come together to stop this shit.
I Wish there were some good mods set during the portal storm era. I know 1187 is set during the portal storms but that mod is pretty terrible. The only other mod I could think of is Opposing Force 2, but I'm pretty sure it is set a few months after the 7 hour war.
1187 a bad mod? IMO it was pretty good, voice acting was not bad and weapons-health system and NPCs nice change from the usual HL2 mods that had stock HL2 weapons and NPCs (even though citizens in 1187 seemed to have just recolored clothing from HL2. Irked me a bit but I got used to it.)
Edit: But I agree that there should be more mods about portal storms. Couple of times I've checked ModDB for portal storms mod but 1187 seems to be the only one that was finished.
I've never seen those combine footsoldiers before, what are they?
they're like droids but not completely stupid and useless as shit
Doesn't make sense to me though. The goal of the Combine would likely be to capture as many humans as possible and use them like they did the other races.
Then again, Breen says repeatedly that he is the one who bargained for mankind's continued existence, so maybe you are right.
But yeah, fighting in the desert makes zero sense. If battles were being fought, they were on the ground in the last few holdouts of civilization.
The Combine are essentially borg only way worse
they take literally every resource from every planet and assimilate them into their own society
instead of just taking your entire memory they enslave you in an even more horrible way and deprive your entire planet of resources.
That mod has been released?
No
Are we talking about HL2 lore
I think the only decent official picture we have of the Seven Hour War is the one from the 'Earth Surrenders' newspaper in BME
[t]http://imgkk.com/i/vpl1.jpg[/t]
Based on that I pretty much pictured it like this Resistance concept art - huge aircraft just destroying everything
[t]http://imgkk.com/i/9pxg.jpg[/t]
but with big-ass synths deployed as well (there appears to be a gigantic Strider variant in the picture). I never imagined much infantry combat and we don't even know what kind of 'infantry' the Combine would have had before they invaded Earth
i always find it funny when people brag about the combine's all powerfulness when a single man with a crowbar, a goatee, and a glorified hazmat suit took them out in like two days.
Well Gman says in the HL2 intro that 'all the effort in the world would have gone to waste' if Gordon had tried to stop them when they first invaded
That mod has been released?
there's already a shitload of gameplay on it but we still need some stuff like choreos/anims/etc. we're going to make it into a collaborative project so we can get it released asap.

gettin some mean Nero's-ship-in-the-2009-Star-Trek vibes from that image there
i agree. i like to imagine the Combine start their planetary submission campaigns by, in one instant, teleporting Citadels into the heart of the major population centers around the globe, teleporting massive carrier ships into the atmosphere above every continent, and deploying 100% of their forces to crush everything and anything that resists as quickly as possible
no better way to blitzkrieg than with portal technology
pointing out the lore's fine and all but can you actually display real anger over the tiniest inaccuracies a piece of work created by a fan?
Not much of a fan iF HE'S WRONG!!! >:I
they do kinda justify that though. what the Combine does is, they take a planet in a few hours with their implausibly tough main attack dudes, transform the planet's population into extra soldiers and take all the resources, and then the tough guys leave to go take other planets and repeat the cycle, while the left over guys stick around to make sure everything goes smoothly and kill any resistance.
so the only dudes left are the ones too shit to attack any planet with, and that's how a former rent-a-cop, some idiots in denim shirts, and a bunch of basement-dwelling nerds can take on a galactic empire
There's also the fact that the first half of the game up until you teleport out of Nova Prospect has you mostly running away from the Civil Protection and using the underground railroad and hidden rebel camps to get around. Then the teleportation takes a whole week, in which time the Combine probably got pretty pissed off and took it out on the civilians. That along with the news that the legendary Gordon Freeman was not only back but had destroyed the prison where people were turned into stalkers, the rebellion was sure to kick into high gear. Which it did because be the time you get back to Kleiner's lab the entire city is in chaos.
Cool, but inaccurate lore-wise.
Why would they be fighting in a desert when by the time the 7 hour war started most of the Earth's population had moved to fortified cities since the Xen wildlife was teleported all over the globe because of the portal storms?
That's just me being a killjoy, though. Maybe it'll still be awesome regardless of that.
Except that lore is based around the original beta half Life 2, not the released game itself which was very sparse in details.

That image was part of concept art for a game released in 2008.
Why is the blood the same diagonal particle effect as the sand getting shot up
I think it's probably important for us to remember that the Combine on Earth probably aren't their main military forces any more. We were defeated in seven fucking hours, and our 'leader' is totally complicit to anything the Combine wish to do. We're basically a 'victory' planet for them, so their invasion forces probably went away in a portal and they just left a very small garrison of basic troops (the Striders, Crab Synths, etc) along with some converted human soldiers in order to keep control over our very weak populace. Gordon could defeat them because of a good deal of luck, the omnipotent abilities of Gman, and the fact that he arrived on a day for which the entire Resistance had been preparing a counterattack. Episode 3 might well involve the Advisors calling for back up, in which case Earth is royally fucked (again) unless we get some deus ex machina from Gman or Black Mesa or something.
In actual fact, I really hope that in Episode 3, we get to find out more about the Gman. At the very least, his employers, or who he is, what he actually does. Just one of those things would explain so much more about him, and I think it's time a little bit of the mystery was unravelled.
Any links to the model of that synth soldier?

Both on the first page if you were to search 'Synth'

The resistance kicked off because Gordon took out Nova Prospekt. The day Gordon showed up was important because it was the first successful teleportation between the labs. Which meant Humanity has one form of technology superior to that of the Combine.
Also, the rocket launched at the end of episode 2 was meant to block the Combine super portal, trapping the local Combine forces on a planet of very pissed off locals with a knack for turning junk into powerful weapons and vehicles.

...Oh wow.
Looks like I missed a lot of bad stuff while playing.
Could be also why I enjoyed it :suicide:
Edit: Too bad TH89 stopped making LP about 1187. Just watching these and they're fun.
This was really cool effects-wise, but you need to work on those animations. They look pretty stale from time to time.
Seems like teleportation is really an intricate part of the series. HL3 would be about finding the Aurora Borealis, which is connected to Aperture Science or Black Mesa somehow, It would have insanely OP teleportation tech and humanity somehow uses that to win or atleast save earth maybe.
