Are they still doing obscure JRPGs that take hours to run?
Are they still doing obscure JRPGs that take hours to run?
I have checked right now the schedule and, unless I skipped through something and didn't notice, the longest runs will be The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time at 4 hours and 40 minutes and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at 3 hours and 57 minutes.
There's quite some games that will take over an hours though.
Surprisingly not, though still no fucking Mario Maker. Also can someone explain to me why all the money goes to the Prevent Cancer Foundation and not like, literally any other fucking charity?

Prevent Cancer Foundation basically hires the AGDQ staff to run the thing every year. I think they have set salaries and everything.
What a fucking waste.
Drama aside, this year has a pretty good lineup. There's no random RTSs and eight hour long JRPG runs, there's lots of good games, Awful Games Done Quick is back, and overall I don't see how anybody could be dissatisfied with the lineup besides "wtf where's super metroid, the lineup is shit forever".
No Mario Maker is still a crime though.
It wouldn't be AGDQ if proto has another meltdown about an emote.
edit: I'm still AMAZED how she's even still on the pre-show after all the bullshit she's pulled but nooo we gotta stay PC.
GUESS we can try and have fun. Not feeling optimistic honestly.
With how poorly run the Tetris part was last year I'm surprised she was asked back. That's the most frustrating part for me.
The real question is, will the setup and behind the scenes continue to be completely ineptly run and plagued with amateur issues? The answer is yes, there's no way they'll have improved in the slightest and they'll still need 40 minutes to plug in a SNES.
Fucking Japan had their second speedrunning event ever a week ago and besides some iffy interlacing on a couple of games and some scanlines it had zero issues and short setup times, but the biggest speedrunning event in the world is run worse than what people could set up in their living room.
Other than like, TASbot, how in the fuck do they have this many issues with setting up? Just have every fucking console there.
Other than like, TASbot, how in the fuck do they have this many issues with setting up? Just have every fucking console there.
There are runners that only play on their own console. Also I didn't see any TAS Block in the schedule.
At least there should be some memorable stuff like last years Chair Sniffer.

:ohno:
If they don't have Power Up Audio on board, it will definitely be more of the same.
I don't even understand how that shit gets that bad. Unless you're playing on an HDTV (For more modern consoles) every single console save for the NES uses the same component cable setup. Are you telling me that a Powerbar and a component switcher aren't enough? What, you're telling me James Rolfe 10 Years ago had a better setup, and that was one guy who kinda had a mess of methods?
Proto should've been banned from attending for how toxic she was last year
There are runners that only play on their own console. Also I didn't see any TAS Block in the schedule.
That should only require plugging the cables out of one console (preferably an event console) and in to the runner's console. It should be a 10 second set up time, not the 40+ minutes they regularly do.
Proto should've been banned from attending for how toxic she was last year
Proto should be banned from all events. She's an unlikable piece of shit.

Can someone give me a rundown on the personalities of AGDQ/SGDQ?
As an outsider all I get is the weird drama weeks after the fact, like ChairSniffer and "I'd Prefer you be quiet right now"
Proto should've been banned from attending for how toxic she was last year
Considering her background I don't see that changing anytime soon as that would no doubt 'trigger' people.
But then you'd need to classify what a major and minor glitch is.
It would be no different than making the ban list for a competitive game tournament. Just like you may decide to ban some strategies or characters because they're so overpowered/prevalent they make watching the tournament an exercise in boredom, you can ban some glitches to make stuff more fun.
Keep in the "time fifteen jumps perfectly to skip some boring level" glitches and keep out the "teleport at the end of the game" glitches.
Some people just can't enjoy things.
This week I've been watching some of the runs from previous years (Pokemon, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Silent Hill and a lot more) and they've kept me entertained with their lively and informative commentary.
Meanwhile others have to be all negative.
Some stricter rules? Sterile and soulless event, no fun allowed!
Lighthearted fun? Ugh, the CRINGE, this run is literally unwatchable!
The runner might be trans? Must spam Twitch chat with emotes proclaiming my disgust!
Or whatever else keeps coming up on these events.
I'm not much of a fan of PCF, I think MSF is objectively better. If you don't like the current charity, don't donate to it, just give it to another charity.
I plan to watch the event as I've done before, I'll tune in on any games that I may find interesting and if I don't feel like watching the current thing, I can catch up on runs that happened during the night and after the marathon is done, check any good runs that I missed.
Some e-drama goes down or something dumb happens? Well, it happened but I just want to watch the speedruns, no point in making a big deal out of it.
Lighten up and focus on something positive instead of the negative.

Bit of a strawman there. I don't know a single dude that wouldn't take CRINGE over a soulless event any day of the week, CRINGE is part of the brand, hell CRINGE is one of the only things keeping this thing entertaining. Also there were definitely times in the early days where it was a lot of lighthearted fun with not much cringe. My personal favorites are the Yoshi Island runs way back when.
Went to check the schedule to see if there's any stuff I want to see live

His Outcast run was my favorite at SGDQ, good to see him again for this.
Won't an Any% of any Jedi Knight Game be like, 5 minutes long? You can break the fuck out of those games.

I'm not attempting to strawman or blame anyone in particular, I'm just voicing my dislike (in admittedly poor wording perhaps) for the overall negativity that always seems to come around with these events today, I just feel somewhat annoyed by it.

As someone who saw only a few bits of last year, is there a compilation of shit she did?
or can someone explain?

I agree that the excessive negativity is annoying but I can understand how people feel about the event, everybody just goes "UGH!" when some party pooper shows up and think how much better it could be without the uptight staff doing themselves favors, allegedly taking a big chunk of donation money and neglecting the event runners and viewers with pretend professionalism.
We just want it to be a laid back stream again without some nerd getting upset and ruining the atmosphere :s:

(most of this is from memory, so take my recollection with some caution)
Essentially whenever Proto was on stream, there would be some members of Twitch Chat spamming DansGame's 'danSexy' emote (which at the time was a drawn version of Dan with a wig and noticeable cleavage).
She went on Twitter to rant about how she had reported emote for being transphobic, and even accused Dan of being apart of the problem. I don't recall him doing a direct response to her, but he did change the way his emote worked.

I assume this was to try and reduce the amount of people using the emote for offensive purposes, however I recall her taking it as a way for him to make more money.
I don't know anything else afterwards.

The only thing I can remember was during all this bullshit she said she was doing all of this for her own personal benefit and community growth.
