They only turned on sub only mode to hide dissent at their antics. Please don't pretend they did this for a noble reason.
In summary: Sub-mode was a thing that needed to have happened a while ago and it happening is a good thing for both the event and for the community.
They can keep their sub mode just don't ban channels hosting them.
They can keep their sub mode just don't ban channels hosting them.
But then twitch won't get money from a charity event :downs:
This run feels so weird with just... a huge gap
But then twitch won't get money from a charity event :downs:
It's this, except without a ':downs:'. It's their event - they want there to be one official stream. It's their prerogative to shut down rehosting streams to ensure that folks aren't donating to random other people but rather the event itself -- which was always and remains the whole point of this event.
I'd like sub-only if Twitch didn't get money from every sub, and all of it went to charity.
I'd like sub-only if Twitch didn't get money from every sub, and all of it went to charity.
Twitch is being a middle-man between points A and B. They'd be giving up an opportunity for little benefit to themselves other than PR. It'd be a nice gesture, sure, but I'd rather that money go to Twitch so that the event runs well and the platform remains happy and financially motivated to support this event.
As for the charity aspect or lack thereof, I don't give a fuck because I have never given any of them money, and if I ever do, it will be with zero charitable intent. If I wanted to give money to charity, I'd give directly to high-quality, high-impact charities like The Against Malaria Foundation or The Schistosomiasis Control Initiative. I just zone out whenever the sponsors come on for AGDQ/SGDQ/ESA/NASA events, just like I do for any other advertizements I can't block.
I don't understand. The argument (as I understand it) is that AGDQ and/or the Prevent Cancer Foundation misappropriates their funds. Your defense against that claim is to say it doesn't matter whether or not they are misappropriating funds because you don't personally donate? So, it's okay that they might be misappropriating funds because of the fact that you don't donate? If you donated, would it suddenly become immoral if that claim was true?
TriHex for official MVP of Amazing Subs Done Bad His chat is now basically the "official" restream
I'm surprised GassyMexican is hosting donations during this stream- I haven't watched him since his Gmod videos with Nanners. I kinda wonder how he got there, I don't think he's a speedrunner, maybe it's because of his twitch presence?
They're advertising a sketchbook that... features a drawing based off of Oneyplays?
Infamous also doesn't seem like a particularly good speed game. It seems to mostly be playing well, and quitting out to skip cutscenes. Then again, Splat 2 wasn't a good speed game either, but it was still fun to watch because of the quality couch.
I kinda question why anyone would run something like the Infamous games. Sure you've got fuckin superpowers and all that but they are so specific in purpose that you can't really do much with them glitch wise I expect. I tend to avoid watching the glitch-less runs for GDQ unless it's something like Mirrors Edge or whatever because the "play it perfectly" speed games are kinda boring. I want to see people break these fuckers over their knees. I'm assuming there's another Reddit post archiving the runs this time?
https://www.reddit.com/r/speedrun/comments/7oljmp/agdq_vod_thread_2018/
Much love. I hate navigating Reddit so I just give up and ask here :v:
guessing thats why twitch keeps banning chats
guessing thats why twitch keeps banning chats
Gotta get that revenue somehow
They're advertising a sketchbook that... features a drawing based off of Oneyplays?
Never forget Beefaroni

That F-Zero GX run was pretty interesting
oops
Was this clerical or intentional? If it's the first, there's no reason why should have to pull a donation like that out of nowhere.
Oh hey, Devolver Done Quick has a sale on the Hotline Miami 2 soundtrack, the best part of that game. Go get it [editline]7th January 2018[/editline]
oops
What the fuck?
Fun fact, as of right now, the the donator site is (currently) susceptible to xss attacks. That means that with a bit of code, people could do some pretty nasty stuff on those who want to check donations for future events. Yet so far, the only thing DSQ has done is just scrub the specific page mentioning it.
Lol the steam just died after I started watching.
That F-Zero GX run was pretty interesting
Yeah, that run was badass. Think it gave me motion sickness, though.
I don't understand. So, it's okay that they might be misappropriating funds because of the fact that you don't donate? If you donated, would it suddenly become immoral if that claim was true?
It's more jaded cynicism than anything. Most charities, especially ones that do this sort of PR event, are absolutely horrible at actually getting money to where it needs to go. Why get salty that GDQ is taking 50% or whatever, when only 10% (or whatever) of what PCF was getting actually gets spent on cancer treatment/prevention/research? MSF is better but still not the most effective use of your charity money, from a strictly utilitarian perspective. Most charities are as much about virtue-signalling as actual improvement to human lives. Speedrunning charities - ESA's "Save the Children" included - are even more so. Getting mad about this is futile so instead I'm just resignedly disappointed.
TriHex's chat is numba 1
Did the Stream die again? [editline]8th January 2018[/editline] haha it did what a shitshow
I just want to watch some speedruns without the tsunami of cynicism. At least there's always ESA.

Can we Speedrun AGDQ?
The DKC 2 one looks really nice (DKC2 is also my favorite of the DKC Trilogy). More stuff here.
