They're aiming for a Quarter 1 2017 release.
Now, this is mostly crew from the original Rising Storm with very little Tripwire involvement. That mod (turned official) took roughly 2 1/2 years. RS2 was announced sometime late last year, and actual content wasn't shown until January.
If that is anything to go by, we'll be seeing Q3 or 4 of 2017, at the very least.
Wonder if the maps are gonna be big and open enough to warrant helicopters. The maps in RS had a pretty good size for a FPS but they weren't ARMA-tier size.

It wasn't that the US lost, it was just they didn't want to stay in Vietnam forever, especially due to perception of the war and the draft at home. In actual combat the US kicked the NVA and VC's asses.

the tet offensive was the north's own sort of last ditch effort iirc. the north got absolutely fucked militarily but that didn't stop the american public from kneejerking and going full retard and acting as if it was an american loss

We could've won if we stayed in there a bit longer, but the American public had grown tired of the war. The last thing you want to do is piss off your citizens.
I'm pretty sure the US could've "won" the war if they had decided to take the gloves off. If we could've invaded North Vietnam we could've likely had finished them.
The bombing offensives were absolutely destructive. If it had been coupled with a conventional invasion of US and ARVN troops than in all likelyhood I think we could've won it.
