Not really, but sometimes. Mostly when a movie is based off a book and they nitpick things that are explained in the book, but then again they also said they ignore books or any other source material.
they even ignore the films if it helps them land a punchline...
I watched (a couple of minutes of) some CinemaSins videos and it was terrible. It seems that they're at their worst when the movie is stylised and not attempting to be realistic in the first place. Like gee thanks for pointing out how the opening of La La Land doesn't make sense or how gags in the Lego movie are too convenient.
There's just no wit or insight to it. If he actually played a humorously written character who rants to an absurd level it could maybe work but "this is stupid DING" doesn't. Or maybe an extreme pedant who complaints about minor details (like a "wow this film takes place in 1870 but this type of hat wasn't in fashion until 1880!" type thing) but is actually correct and not just saying whatever comes to his mind and being wrong half the time. But I guess doing that would take actual effort.

AVGN/James Rolfe is actually a nice example of how to properly do a character. He gets unreasonably angry at games, but he then separates that from when he's giving actual criticisms and it works well. You can do both at once if you make it clear what you actually think versus when you're just being silly and over the top.
Not to mention that he actually puts effort into his videos...
I used to watch them every now and then for shits and giggles but over time i mostly started watching the ones for movies i liked and started noticing more and more inane bullshit taped on as a "sin" despite it being a non-issue, explained before/after, or just plain wrong and i quickly lost what little enjoyment i had from them.
Even when I watch episodes about movies I don't like, I can't find it funny because I just notice myself going "but that's a horrible nitpick", or "that's entirely out of context" pretty much constantly.
what was cinemasins trying to do with this statement? it's been bugging me for months and I finally get a thread to ask this in.

He's also very clearly not paying attention, or is borderline braindead, as four seconds after this shot you see transport ships descend from this Star Destroyer... down to the surface, coming closer to the camera. Without cutting.
I mean, I don't really watch CinemaSins but to watch a video stylised the way CinemaSins is and then assuming that it's a serious critique of film is a bit overkill. It doesn't take itself seriously. Unless I'm missing something?

I think you should watch more of the video in the OP. He talks about this many, many times
A lot of it IS serious critique. One of the guys behind Cinemasins says so, and has injected a ton of his own, real complaints into the series.
[editline]16th November 2017[/editline]
And basically, not taking itself seriously =/= not making a point. How many times have you seen a comedian's stand-up rant quoted in an argument?
I accidentally clicked on a CinemaSins video once, and I wasn't a fan at all. Then I clicked on CinemaWins and I like it a lot better, I guess it's just the fact that it's in general a positive vibes kind of channel.
I can see how you would find CinemaSins videos funny right up until you watch: A newer one, One where several "critiques" are just "WHY WOMEN NOT NAKED SHUT UP WHORE LEL", and most importantly, One featuring a film you have actually seen.
If you have even a passing knowledge of the material they are 'critiquing' then it's painfully clear they have no fucking clue what they are talking about. For example, they gave bladerunner shit for being set in the future- and yet "somehow" everything is dilapidated and humanity hasn't solved current day issues despite massive leaps in technology... *that's a core theme of cyberpunk settings*.
They also outright fucking lie, "Why didn't this character just shoot him with her gun!!!!????" *cuts the scene off milliseconds before the protagonist raises her weapon to fire*.

This is a problem I've been seeing a lot on popular channels that base themselves around analyzing films or games; the fact that many of them consistently get information wrong when basic research would have sufficed -- or they even sometimes very blatantly bend the truth or outright lie to present their points. And the problem is their audience is too huge and broad to pick up on it; sure fans of the work will notice that they're lying, but most people watching the video won't have any exposure to the work in question and will leave with many misconceptions that hurt the reputation said work.
It gets even worse when many of these channels present themselves as being very professional or "smart", when in reality they're outright lying to the people watching.
I wish that the public at large would have more respect for themselves and for the media they consume, but unfortunately more and more misinformation spreads from channels like this all the time and I can only see things getting worse.

This post is so dumb it could ride a scooter to Aspen.
That line has a joke in it. Keeping that in mind is it making a point that your post is stupid or not?
djjkxbox, just watch this video from 30:07, and maybe you'll understand why everyone's criticizing CinemaSins. Here bobvids actually takes the time to sum up his problems with CinemaSins, and will spare you the 30 minutes of your time with a condensed block of all the arguments people are trying to make. It'll take 3 minutes of your time, and will make the actual discussion of CinemaCins more fruitful than I has been so far.

Or just ignore it, up to you.
This guy's channel and his videos do not get enough views for the amount of work he does, considering how much editing goes into it and how long every video becomes. Compared to the multi million clicks the Cinemasins get.
That CinemaSins guy seems like he suffers from a five second attention span along with a heavily inflated ego.

The only useful part of this post was 'That line has a joke in it'.

So you did not understand my argument at all?
Cinemasins audience member I guess, what was I expecting.
