When auto-mobiles came into the picture people didn't just say "yeah fuck horses you're never allowed to ride them again"
I'm pretty sure there are many public places you cant ride horses, they tend to shit everywhere and they smell. To be honest people losing their privilege to drive themselves would be pretty scary to many people. I can feel that would be one of the issues your great great great grand kids would face. The difference here is horses aren't anywhere near as deadly in irresponsible hands.

IDK what it's like in the USA but here in Canada you can have a horse wherever, except in a mall or something like that but you can't have cars there either.
And yes I know cars and horses are different. I'm making a point, not a comparison.
it's extremely damaging to the truck's suspension though. drum brake warpage, and all the goodies associated with extremely hard braking.
I'd rather have broken brakes than broken brains
"Please, no! Let me out!"
I'm sorry Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.
ftfy. seriously if you're gonna quote something quote it right
For this to be viable, wouldn't every car on the road have to be one of these, though?
I mean I hope I'm wrong and they can develop the car enough to adapt and drive better than any human could and probably detect/react to a developing accident better than any human could, but I feel like when it comes to machines interacting and blending with humans its going to be extremely hard to compensate for the human variable.
There are an infinite number of possible situations a car could get into on the road due to someone else's stupid driving, fair enough it would be much easier if every car could talk to one another but it isnt the case so a car like this would need to be able to adapt to cope with unexpected situations.
Does it require a Google+ account?

It works fine enough in normal traffic as far as i know the handful or selfdriving car crashes that have happened are all so far due to external human influence ie someone else crashing into the google car.
No more DUIs for this guy!
This could be great for those who have disabilities in terms of physically in the muscles and certain cognitive senses.
Drive by shootings just got really convenient!
How'd the fuck would this thing go at roundabouts because I know as a fact in Australia some of the craziest shit happens there and if you don't steer fast enough you could cause a collision
Looks like they still need to work on making the detector ontop smaller. I imagine in the future they will be just a small bump ontop no larger than a taxi sign.
And the last time I saw it before this, it also sounded like an old washing machine "drying" clothes. This time it was either cut out or it's silent now.
driving in big cities is having to concentrate on something very tedious and boring
I'd rather have a self driving car for getting around and doing something while it's driving for me and a separate car for fun driving and track days

I'm impressed the whole fucking truck doesn't collapse along with its cargo when the emergency brakes go off.
