To all you mofos asking what's so good about this series, I hope you got about an hour to kill.
Please tell me this is going to be localized. Currently playing Yakuza 3 for the first time and loving it, this looks goddamn amazing.
Maybe in like 3 years.
I don't understand what the big deal is. Can someone fill me in? It just looks like a bbrawler game with pretty visuals and a regular destruction stuff.
Yakuza originally started on the PS2. And was released a few years after the PS2 was introduced. Because of this, Yakuza looked pretty damn good on the PS2. As you have noticed, it's pretty much a fighter. But a fighter with JRPG or just RPG elements. You fight, you level up, earn points from leveling up, use those points to beef up and learn new moves and then use those moves in more challenging situations as you progress through the game. It is also very story heavy. So if you dislike cutscenes, then Yakuza might disappoint you. However I recommend giving it a try, even on a PS2 emulator if you have to. I find it one of the best series Sega has ever produced (and just one of the best series in general). If Sonic was Sega's baby in the 90's, than Yakuza is their baby during present day.
For anyone looking to get into the series, good luck trying to find a legit copy Yakuza 2 online without having to sell some internal organs to be able to afford it. Cheapest I could find on ebay, that wasn't an import, was a copy for almost $70 and the game didn't even fucking work. What??
you can get the 1 and 2 hd collection on playasia for 20 bux ofc it'll be in moonrunes but it'll be on the ps3 in 1080p so that's cool
True, but being able to understand the characters means more to me than 1080p otherwise I'd get that.

I mean for gods sake, its not like they're hiring an english voice cast, its just a translation of the text/subtitles. I mean i get thats not the easiest thing in the world but christ, everyone else seems to do it fine.

Also from the same channel.
This thread inspired me to download that free copy of Yakuza 4 from PS Plus that I redeemed months ago and man, I'm hooked. Sega needs to port these games on PC, they'd do really well there. Western PC is like the second best market for Japanese games.
Maybe you could care to explain why they are excellent games? I want to join the hype train, too.
I'd honestly suggest the two best friends let's play of yakuza 4, if I remember right they explain some of the stuff pretty well.
