• Why I Left Facebook

I guess I'm not allowed to post my vacation photos? I get that this guy is trying to say, "Hey, people are image-crafting on Facebook", but maybe I'm not. Maybe I just want to keep a picture of me with a buddy of mine somewhere on Facebook. Maybe I see some cool shit out in the open. Maybe if other people have a problem with it, they're the problem and not me or Facebook. Maybe me posting that I just had a gigantic burger isn't me trying to shit on other people but instead saying, "holy shit, look at this gigantic burger." It's not narcissistic to do that, nor is it suggesting to the world that I'm better than them, nor is it suggesting, "Hey, I'm perfect." I think that if you can't look at how other people are doing without freaking the fuck out, suggesting that they're being fake and that they shouldn't talk about certain things around you, you're being a dick. This guy was so close to making his point but his distinctions are insane. Looking at that breakdown of what things people annoy him, I'm wondering what he would actually be okay with people posting? What fits in that other 50% that doesn't bother him? I do get annoyed at what people put on Facebook, but I think there's so many factors at play that make it hard to say, "Facebook is responsible for this!" Different people post different things on Facebook. My mom posts shitty memes. I have liberal friends that talk about how Donald Trump fans would probably eat their keyboards before make functioning thoughts. I have friends that relentlessly post about how they're blessed. But you know what? That stuff happens in real life too. Sometimes, my mom shows me videos that aren't funny. Those overly obnoxious liberal friends exist offline too. And those overly blessed people that condescend to everyone around them aren't just a product of the internet. What we can say about the internet is that we're so addicted to it that this company never goes away. You're never more than a couple clicks from interacting with the thoughts of your friends, fellow employees, family, and even strangers. While some people say that there were the "good ol' days of Facebook", I recall it being overrun with chain letters and personality tests at some point. I recall it being overrun with terrible apps. There was never a good time on Facebook past it's initial novelty stages, and at some point Facebook was going to represent actual society by being everyone's impersonal microphone. I think that as much flak that Facebook gets, we need to look deeper and find the users. Who are they? You? Me? Them? Us? Is it some people being fucking annoying with Facebook, or is it all people? It's an important distinction. Not everyone is bonkers on Facebook, and using Facebook is a scapegoat for a societal problem exposed and possibly magnified by its presence.
Hmm I was expecting something a little different. I don't really care about people wanting to only post their best moments and such as long as it doesn't get to the point where they're pretty much blogging about their exercise routine. The reason why I didn't reinstall Facebook when I got my new phone (in addition to the forced messenger bullshit) is that my news feed is just a blur of clickbait, stolen comedy videos, and people preaching to the choir on popular social issues. It's just social media masturbation.
None of my friends are really spammy with their Facebook use, so there's nothing on there that bothers me beyond shitty forced memes. It all depends who your friends are. The majority of my friends are, like me, recent university graduates in massive debt with useless history degrees and either no job or a shit paying one, so they can't afford to go on multiple vacations every year that they post thousands of pictures of or post thousands of pictures of cars and trucks and shit like that. Some of them post a lot of family related pictures, which doesn't make me angry but it kind of makes me feel shit about my life because my family may as well not exist at this point. The only truly annoying thing I see on Facebook most days are shitty forced memes like caveman Spongebob. In a few years the baby picture spam is probably going to start though, and I'm dreading that.
My facebook homepage is completely empty because all of my friends and family post inane bullshit I don't give a fuck about so I unfollowed every single one of them.
TBH I wouldn't mind having that guy's Facebook News Feed. It sounds pretty fine.
