I'm cautiously excited, it seems they're actually trying to go for the Alien aesthetic instead of generic 2010s scifi movie. Though there are compromises, like those ARs. [t]http://i.imgur.com/H5ZGgkR.png[/t] Look at that, actual buttons! What looks like CRT screens embedded into the consoles! Compare it with Prometheus... [t]http://i.imgur.com/hxe6m.jpg[/t] And yes, they always have excuses like varying levels of tech and 'prettiness' based on how new or how civilian oriented the ships are. That doesn't matter in the end, pretty ships look awful.
the evolution of touchpad into retro-future, nice.
I think it's the same issue with Star Wars, what looked cool and futuristic to audiences in the 70s looks retro and outdated to audiences in the 21st century. Personally I love the look of Alien.

The Nostromo was an old ship retrofitted into a towing barge, you can even see a subtle difference between the ship's "original" rooms and the hypersleep room which was added later and looks sleeker and newer. Besides that, Alien has an aesthetic of it's own that still appeals to modern audiences. Alien: Isolation recreated it very faithfully, and it was praised for it.
I'm not getting hyped for another alien movie. They are going to pet space cobras, get lost after making 3d maps, not tell anyone they have a space worm in their eye, AND NOT RUN TO THE SIDE WHEN THERE'S SOMETHING ROLLING AFTER THEM IN A STRAIGHT LINE again.

So is this a direct sequel to Prometheus or something? Because it has two characters from Prometheus in it apparently
Idk maybe it's just because I watched the prometheus trailer again before watching this but this feels almost like someone went "jeez we shouldn't have back-pedaled so hard when making Prometheus, lets just try that exact movie again but with xenomorphs instead of space jockeys" But whatever I'm still gonna watch it anyways because I'm a sucker for Aliens stuff. Hope they learned from Prometheus' mistakes and don't do stupid shit again like deleting important scenes that actually explain shit, but probably not lol.
its a sequel to prometheus, yes but michael fassbender isnt playing the same character, hes playing a different droid
Well he's playing two droids, one being the droid from prometheus, the other being a new model called Walter. David's lack of presence in this trailer tho makes me think it's just gonna be a quick scene akin to Aliens 3's bishop scene, with the main focus being on Walter. I know the cobra petting was because there was a scene where he found a harmless one prior to the deadly one), but then those scenes got deleted. So yeah it was a combination of bad editing and bad logic.
this doesn't look like it'll be that horrible, if it's better than prometheus then I'll def be checkin' it out.
I sort of feel like the Alien franchise is good where it is and they should let it be.
Dont you remember alien 3 and 4. They were terrible. I still enjoyed them but they do suck but they were not by ripley scott. I dont care what anyone thinks more alien movies even if the plots are sort of same is always good. Guys anyone forgetting its goddamn ripley scott making these?! I'm excited to the bones.

Apparently [sp]he has a new body[/sp] and it's not like they had limited access to Fassbender. It would be pretty cool to see David and Walter interact given that at least one of them isn't trustworthy - David would be in a good position to kill Walter and take his place, for example.
Alien 3 is by no means a bad movie (if you watch the right edition) but it can't measure up to the kind of impact the first two films left on people and on the franchise itself. 4 is just fan-fiction tier garbage.
Yeah Alien 3 is a super well made movie. My issue with it isn't that it sucks or something, I can totally respect it, it's just I really didn't like the direction it took the series after Aliens' happy ending. It basically just shat all over Aliens' ending, especially by claiming that none of the survivors would've had the obvious thought to search their ship for more aliens/eggs before leaving. I can't imagine how pissed James Cameron must've been from all that lmao
It would be pretty cool to see David and Walter interact given that at least one of them isn't trustworthy - David would be in a good position to kill Walter and take his place, for example.
That's what i've been predicting, too. I hope that's what happens, David was totally the highlight of Prometheus imo and from what I've read about Walter, he's meant to be a much more calmer and more human-acting android. Just wouldn't be near as fun without David showing up and screwing everything up again.
The main character is supposedly[sp]Ridley's mother[/sp]. Make of that what you will.
[sp]Ridley Scott cast his own mum as the main character? Talk about favoritism.[/sp]
3 is fine, watch the assembly/director's cut.
Its fine by the strictest definition of the word. I still find it an overwhelming disappointment personally, especially if you go read some of the early drafts of the scripts that where shot down for seemingly no reason which where far superior to the one we got in the film.
[sp]Ridley Scott cast his own mum as the main character? Talk about favoritism.[/sp]
This is what I get for writing so late it's basically morning. Fixed the typo.
Say what you want about Alien Resurrection, but I will never forgive Whedon the nightmare fuel that was the hybrid queen giving live birth to that hybrid Xenomorph. Whedon, I love Firefly and I love Cabin in the Woods, but you're seriously fucked up.
He has a sequel in the works that would negate Alien 3 & Resurrection. It's been put on the back burner for this film.
I kinda like Alien 3, but I'm still kinda interested to see his film.
Say what you want about Alien Resurrection, but I will never forgive Whedon the nightmare fuel that was the hybrid queen giving live birth to that hybrid Xenomorph. I'm trying to imagine that, but my brain refuses. So Whedon's version could have been potentially worse.
James Franco is in this as well apparently but I don't think I saw him in the trailer with Danny McBride being in this as well i'm half-expecting to see Seth Rogen and Craig Robinson cameo :v:
I hope Danny's character dies a very violent death.
I just realized they aren't wearing space suits on an alien planet. Again. This time they didn't even bring them along instead of taking off the helmets. Yeah, I'm gonna be rooting for all of their dumb asses to die, just like it went with Prometheus.
I just realized they aren't wearing space suits on an alien planet. Again. This time they didn't even bring them along instead of taking off the helmets. Besides, the air was breathable, and if this is the rumored Engineer homeworld, it will probably have a livable environment as well.
They wore suits in Prometheus, just not when inside the ship. Besides, the air was breathable, and if this is the rumored Engineer homeworld, it will probably have a livable environment as well.
Yeah they wore suits in Prometheus and the moment there's air they take their helmets off. On an alien planet. Air =/= safe. It's not like you're not going to frigging die to a disease/bacteria/parasite/number of other reasons in a few days after you do that... Or a space goo flies into your ear and makes you transform into a killer squid or something. If you want to make it super "sciency" and potentially realistic then stick to it, make the characters behave like they actually went to an alien planet. Like they did in the original Alien no less. If it wasn't for Ash manually opening the door, Ripley would have not let Kane with a facehugger attached on board. I realize this complaint seems petty and it would be... if it weren't for the fact that it will cause them to start dying. And we see in the trailer that it indeed is the reason they will start dying.
They wore suits in Prometheus, just not when inside the ship. i mean, if humans have technologically advanced to the extent that they can travel galaxies and to new planets, what makes you think there isn't some dial that says "yea there's nothing harmful in the air" on the ship?
i mean, if humans have technologically advanced to the extent that they can travel galaxies and to new planets, what makes you think there isn't some dial that says "yea there's nothing harmful in the air" on the ship?
Logically such a device doesn't make sense and it'd be bad writing. How would you know that there is an absence or presence of something you have never encountered and don't know the properties of? If they have that, they could just as plausibly have a thing that warns them about facehuggers.
i mean, if humans have technologically advanced to the extent that they can travel galaxies and to new planets, what makes you think there isn't some dial that says "yea there's nothing harmful in the air" on the ship?
1. You can test only the air that you have contact with. You can't tell if there isn't something harmful 500 meters away. Or in case of Prometheus, somewhere in an alien structure that you're exploring. 2. What about alien mosquitos that have a deadly to humans venom? Or thousands of other things that can kill you in contact with you. 3. Yeah it's going to work great in Alien:Covenant for them I hope. I guess we will have to wait and see.
What happened to the girl from the first movie? Is she in this film?
Damn. I was expecting paradise as the film they were gonna make, I guess Alien/Prometheus it is.
What happened to the girl from the first movie? Is she in this film?
Yes, apparently she plays a small role. [sp]For all we know she could already be dead though.[/sp]
