And notch wants us to pay monthly for this. Ahahahahahaha.
Ten bucks says those are the final graphics.
I still hope it turns out good, but with this I don't have good feelings about it.
Notch just tweeted this image:

Blatant ripoff of my previous comment. Come on Bobie are you even trying, I tell you what.
I find the name rather odd but I'm curious about what it will be like near final versions.
It's actually looking nice, it is just a demo of what it's capable of, but it's pretty unique.

I'm going to ask a very valid question and this isn't just cause its notch, I would ask the same if it was anyone.
How is it unique.

It's in space.
You can't argue against this. The Terraria devs did the same thing, so it must be new and unique.

Maybe it's because I stopped following Minecraft a while ago, but I didn't hear about his divorce until I saw this YouTube comment
Can everyone just stop with the negativity? Yes, the graphics are bad. Those are called developer graphics. They take the place of the real graphics during engine tests like these. The reason little progress has been made is because he halted development in June* to resume on it after PAX and he has broken up with his wife. No one is forcing you to buy this game or even watch these videos. Sad that people just sit around all day criticizing others with no background information on the situation.
It popped up quick one day. I think it lasted maybe a month?
0x10 is hexadecimal for 16 in decimal values. Not sure what the ^c is
I dont know why are people saying this is impressive. Regardless of how much time he has spent on it, whether its a few weeks or the actual length (what at least 10 months now?), there is nothing here worth noting or of any interest. Shadows, basic collision detection, and some gun effects. If you have any knowledge of programming you know that none of this is anything special, and can be produced in a reasonably short amount of time. There is no gameplay, so what about it is interesting? The fact that you can jump and shoot? Groundbreaking.
I think he deserves all the flak he is getting.
holy shit this looks awful
Also, why are you people saying this is impressive?
If by "you people" you are referring to the people in this thread who said it is impressive, there's been like 3.
A comment on the video:

Ouch... I wouldn't feel very motivated to do any work either in that scenario...

Even if you have recently divorced, it doesn't make you immune to criticisms. And developer graphics (something tells me he is going to leave the graphics in their current state and call it a "style") aren't immune to criticisms either.

I wouldn't either if my ex-wife took half of my vacation money.
Notch didn't ditch MC for this game, He started on this after as he thought Jeb could do a better job being head developer.
Even still, Notch said he spent the majority of his time working on the engine design and logic before doing starting on visuals.

Good point, I was mixing up youtube comments and the few comments in thread. Fixed.
Considering how long he worked on Minecraft, it's not surprising that creating slopes has taken this long.
I think c as in the speed of light
I thought it might be, but couldnt confirm it.
My automerge!
c is lightspeed as above post said
and c comes from the latin word Celeritas meaning 'Speed'.
In a parallel universe where the space race never ended, space travel was gaining popularity amongst corporations and rich individuals.
In 1988, a brand new deep sleep cell was released, compatible with all popular 16 bit computers. Unfortunately, it used big endian, whereas the DCPU-16 specifications called for little endian. This led to a severe bug in the included drivers, causing a requested sleep of 0x0000 0000 0000 0001 years to last for 0x0001 0000 0000 0000 years.
It's now the year 281 474 976 712 644 AD, and the first lost people are starting to wake up to a universe on the brink of extinction, with all remote galaxies forever lost to red shift, star formation long since ended, and massive black holes dominating the galaxy.
Just a quote from the site (http://www.0x10c.com) explaining the game's name and a bit of the back story.

Why not call the game "Ceteritas 16?"
Why couldn't he just get rich and just live out his days not doing anything
I mean he's basically doing that but not being honest about it

1) Sure, but it seems fairly likely that he is just going to pull a Minecraft, fire an actual artist, and then leave the "dev textures" as is.
2) That doesn't really excuse the fact that the work from x to June, and then the month of September culminates to this. Sure that may be hard for non funded indie developers, but it's Notch's job and he has millions of dollars backing him.
3) I am putting shit out on the market, don't complain about it being shit because I am not forcing you to buy it.
why is everyone getting upset about this?

1. arguing hypotheticals
2. it's his money he can do what he wants, he's not obligated to work 7 days a week for the rest of his life just because you said so
3. shit is highly subjective, regardless of what you think minecraft is, it was one thing: successful.
