Why not call the game "Ceteritas 16?"
i dont know, ask him
The thing I thought was most interesting was the emulated 16bit CPU you get to run your ship. It looks like he's done quite a bit of behind-the-scenes stuff that isn't apparent in the video
Next up:
* Reaching some kind of first playable release
* Multiple rooms in the ship
Working on:
* Adding hardware to the DCPU-16
* Releasing a DCPU-16 emulator environment
Recently finished:
* Updating the DCPU-16 based on feedback
* Space rendering and windows
* Model editor
* Figure out visual style
* Room rendering
* Character physics
* Website
* Finishing the DCPU-16 specification
* DCPU-16 implementation
* GLSL support
* Point lights with shadow maps
* Virtual Monitor
* Virtual Keyboard (kind of, it's global right now)
I have no idea of the timeline of these events, but if working on it at his leisure makes for a better game I really don't care.
In a parallel universe where the space race never ended, space travel was gaining popularity amongst corporations and rich individuals.
In 1988, a brand new deep sleep cell was released, compatible with all popular 16 bit computers. Unfortunately, it used big endian, whereas the DCPU-16 specifications called for little endian. This led to a severe bug in the included drivers, causing a requested sleep of 0x0000 0000 0000 0001 years to last for 0x0001 0000 0000 0000 years.
It's now the year 281 474 976 712 644 AD, and the first lost people are starting to wake up to a universe on the brink of extinction, with all remote galaxies forever lost to red shift, star formation long since ended, and massive black holes dominating the galaxy.
Seriously Notch? Does he even know what the plot is?
why is everyone getting upset about this?
its about notch, for some reason pf is against
He wants us to pay monthly for this? How much?
1. arguing hypotheticals
2. it's his money he can do what he wants, he's not obligated to work 7 days a week for the rest of his life just because you said so
3. shit is highly subjective, regardless of what you think minecraft is, it was one thing: successful.
1. He said that they were "dev textures" once before, why should anyone believe him now?
2. Sure he can do what he wants but don't expect people to not call him lazy when this is all he gets done in that amount of time.
3. Success != Quality
thlis why is your blood pressuring spiking over a 95 second video that doesn't show anything
seriously i want to know your pain
He wants us to pay monthly for this? How much?
Logic says we should be able to pay the game and thats it, but notch needs more money.
Probably like 10-15 dollars because he knows he can get away with it.

uh just like a 10 second google search reveals that he says the monthly fee is for creating a persistent world powered by servers????
i mean be it far from me to accuse you of lying or being ignorant...

the things you are arguing are entirely your own opinions. i respect them, but how can you call everyone out on being wrong when it's your own perspective
thlis why is your blood pressuring spiking over a 95 second video that doesn't show anything

It's called an argument.
thisispain, why do you stumble into threads and act apathetic to the entire discussion?
the things you are arguing are entirely your own opinions. i respect them, but how can you call everyone out on being wrong when it's your own perspective
The original comment was why people shouldn't complain about his pace. My comment was why it wasn't an excuse to not have complaints. Your comment was that he does not need an excuse for his pace. My point was that your right that he can choose his own pace but there is no reason why they shouldn't complain about his pace.
that wasn't my question
my question was "why is this of any significance to you in any way"?
that is a lead up to the question of "why is everyone pissed at notch for showing a 95 second clip".
i'm not apathetic, i'm just very curious at to why you're beefing
uh just like a 10 second google search reveals that he says the monthly fee is for creating a persistent world powered by servers????

Lol what did I lie about.
Lol what did I lie about.
obviously you think he's some greedy bastard trying to steal people's money
"notch needs more money."
"he knows he can get away with it."
so either you're lying or didn't know shit about what you were talking about
pick 1

He isn't? That's the vibe I get from it. I mean a lot of games do the persistent world thing but only require a base purchase or whatever.
EDIT: And it's not like notch needs the money to run the servers. He has a an unimaginable amount of money. And he wouldn't be losing money because sales off the base game.
Can everyone just stop with the negativity? Yes, the graphics are bad. Those are called developer graphics. They take the place of the real graphics during engine tests like these.
as in the graphics minecraft were released with?
which cost 60 dollars and have capital behind th--
wait shit
notch only has like 10 million euros
He isn't? That's the vibe I get from it. I mean a lot of games do the persistent world thing but only require a base purchase or whatever.
really? a lot of games have persistent world servers?
besides MMO's, which games are these?
Why couldn't he just get rich and just live out his days not doing anything
I mean he's basically doing that but not being honest about it
But he is honest about it! He had said on Twitter that he's going to keep developing niche games because he enjoys doing it even though he's set for life.
1) Sure, but it seems fairly likely that he is just going to pull a Minecraft, fire an actual artist, and then leave the "dev textures" as is.
2) That doesn't really excuse the fact that the work from x to June, and then the month of September culminates to this. Sure that may be hard for non funded indie developers, but it's Notch's job and he has millions of dollars backing him.
3) I am putting shit out on the market, don't complain about it being shit because I am not forcing you to buy it.
Why are you assuming this demonstrates everything that has been done in the game? I bet there is a fair amount of behind the scenes shit that he hasn't shown.
really? a lot of games have persistent world servers?

chromehounds
guild wars 2 (i'm counting it because its not a mmo subscription model)
really? a lot of games have persistent world servers?

What.
This game is going to be an MMO as far as I know. If notch sets up a few main servers that EVERYONE connects to instead of hosting their own that is what an MMO is.
If he was going to allow people to run their own servers then why charge monthly fee?
Ill list off a couple games that have persistent world with no subscription.
NFS world, Test drive unlimited 2, firefall, global agenda, guild wars 2...
Why are you assuming this demonstrates everything that has been done in the game? I bet there is a fair amount of behind the scenes shit that he hasn't shown.
Then a video was probably a poor choice of format for displaying what he has done.
as in the graphics minecraft were released with?
Minecrafts graphics became part of the charm after a while and where too iconic to completely overhaul. It supports texture packs for anyone who isn't happy with them anyway.
really? a lot of games have persistent world servers?
dayz? released for free by a much smaller development team?
He has a an unimaginable amount of money. And he wouldn't be losing money because sales off the base game.
unimaginable amount ?
look i hate fatcat corporate earners as much as the next person, but Notch is an indie developer who attained success by working directly with his audience.
he has a company to develop, employees to pay, future projects to fund, all without corporate backing.
i just find it weird that we're so quick to backstab an indie success story.

they're ugly as fuck. it isn't any kind of art-style and it misses the whole point of being "retro" and "pixel graphics"
if you're charmed by that whatever but it's ugly to me

If a man does us wrong, even if he has done mostly right, we will still turn on him.
And before you ask what he has done wrong:
Gone from weekly updates to one update every several months.
A lot of unfulfilled promises with minecraft. (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Upcoming_features scroll down to planned features, items and blocks. Some are from forever ago and still aren't done. See lanterns from the haloween update)
Being sort of a douche after his rise to popularity.
Wanting to charge a monthly fee for a game that should have none.
because hes spent nearly 9 months on this
and all he's made
is some stairs
as in the graphics minecraft were released with?
I swear to god if you are basing that off of that TBG review I want to slap you
It doesn't matter if they are 'dev textures', what matters is how good they actually look
