[Kurzgesagt] Genetic Engineering Will Change Everything Forever
Upload your brain into a computer. Replace your mortal flesh brain with a computer one. Swap flesh bodies for new ones or robots if you somehow die.
Would you even have the same consciousness you had before
Numerous sci-fi movies such as Gattaca have warned us of probable futures such as genetic discrimination.
With that in mind I'm a firm believer in transhumanism and as long as we approach these subjects and this technology safely and in a responsible manner I don't see why we shouldn't control our genetics and lifespan.
Mind you, things would probably be a bit crowded around here if everyone was immortal, so maybe get some decent space colonization going first.

You should play SOMA if you haven't. In the end there is no definitive answer to that, you can only really talk about it.
But if you were to upload your brain into a computer, the brain in your body would keep perceiving itself as the original and it would sit there as if nothing had happened.
But the brain in the machine would also perceive itself as the original because to that perspective, you've moved into the computer and the stream of consciousness is unbroken. Just one second you were in a chair, the other you're in a computer.
Which of course presents a problem because now there's two of you. What do you do then? :v:
You can talk all day about this kinda stuff. Fascinating.

The idea of consciousness is scary. Why me?
Also I feel sociopaths perceive reality as a game against bots/AI meanwhile everyone else views life as a multiplayer game.

Way I see it, elevating mankind through genetics should be more of a "no man left behind" scenario, where everyone has the opportunity to iron out the bugs in their genetic code regardless of wealth.
Though ideally it wouldn't end up with us being like the Borg, forcing augmentation upon the "hylics" of the world, but instead being more of an open church of the blood god, where those who seek enhancement need only walk through the osseous doors and meet with a blood minister.
I really don't get what's wrong with "Designer" babies
Would you want your kids to be healthy and intelligent? I know I would.

I don't get why this is hard to understand.
Because, are you a millionare or billionare? No? Then no designer babies for you. You get normal kids. Oh, what's that, your normal kids that you couldn't afford to genetically augment aren't as smart, fast, strong, or any other positive qualities compared to the designer babies? Oh, your kid can't get a job and doesn't add much value to the world in a world where you literally need a job to clothe and feed yourself?
Like, yeah, there's going to be a big problem of 'The Haves, and the Have nots' and it's only wishful ignorance that can do that.

If there's anything in the world that REALLY NEEDS TO BE cheap and abundant it is this, since it's going to happen no matter what anyway.
