If spiders were between the size of a cat and a dog, non-venomous, and domesticated, I would not fear them.

everyone for the most part has a fear of spiders because the average person cannot identify most spiders; Is it poisonous? why chance it.

Also many children have an innate fear of most arachnids, bugs, beetles, and the sort. ants and the sort are usually too small to be feared. Anything that can't fit into a film container is too big.
