The WSJ rebuttal is absolutely appalling.

How is this is an actual controversy now
People refuse to do research and want to be angry about something. Nothing new.
"They're so scared of us because we have so much influence."
Yeah, hoekay thar tiny dick. TIL: internet personalities have a HUGE effect on the modern world.

someone with 53 million followers can pull a lot of weight.
yeah 53 million people is a very small audience
An audience != in support of. It's people watching a video for entertainment. Don't confuse that with some following.
There are more people that watch the news. I guess, because of the Left-wing bias, everyone that watches the tele is in support to whatever the view the media discloses? Hence how the Donald won the election; because the audience.

He's more watched than the news depending on the night. Him choosing to talk about a subject influences the people who watch it? I'm not saying his audience absorbs his view. That is not what the word means.

Even though 53 million isn't a small number of people who receive your content, there are also other youtubers and high profile people on twitter who showed their strong support of him and against the media over this; It further extends the entire reach and impact.

Please never work in anything involving statistics, you will just hurt yourself.
Holy hell!!
Ben Fritz, one of the article writers, actually has a south park avatar on twitter.
A fucking south park avatar, a show full of anti-semitic jokes.
This is ridiculous, people have no self awereness. :speechless:

All Nazis have survived the holocaust, live in argentina, and have 100+ years. Even Hitler. Especially Hitler. We're gonna find him dammit.

Glad this thread got made, the thread about Disney dropping him was just people completely uninformed of the situation commenting on it using only what they learned from WSJs awful article.
I dunno, why hasn't South Park or Tosh.0 or the Boondocks or any other adult show with offensive content been canceled?
If you don't like to watch it, you're not the target audience. Why should he tone down his content for those who don't even watch it?
Shows like that are regulated by the FCC and are required to display content advisory warnings while on air. If someone ignores a TV-MA rating, then that's on them.
PewDiePie has had a large shift in the style of content he's made in the past year. His target audience a year ago is entirely different than the one he has now. It's not surprising that people who might not enjoy this new style would still watch his videos considering they may be one of his older subscribers or are just aware of his presence as literally the largest content producer on the site.
I get that he's sad that there was backlash over his video, but it looks like he still has a hard time understanding that his actions will have consequences, especially with how big of a figure he is on the internet. This reminds me of when he made those rape jokes and got a lot of flak for it. Now, even if everyone claims "it was just a joke" from here until the end of time, there were consequences. No matter how many times he can say he's sorry or get choked up on camera, he fucked up. I have a feeling many other big youtube stars are going to start getting punished the same way.
Obviously all of the slander and manipulation is horrible, he shouldn't be getting treated this way, especially the claims that he's a nazi based on nothing at all. But if he knows he's being targeted, why doesn't he at least try to tone down some of his content?
There's NO reason a news outlet as large as the WSJ should have even considered the controversy worthy of their journalism. People go to the WSJ for actual important shit. What some random dude on Youtube is doing, regardless of how popular he is, is pointless. I guarantee you a large portion of the regular subscribers to the WSJ had no idea who PewDiePie even was until they started publishing articles about him being a "definite Nazi". Even if they never called him a Nazi or tried to play the anti-semite angle, the very fact it's a relevant news story is ridiculous.
Consequences are to be expected. What's happening to him right now is not a "consequence". A consequence would be people complaining about it, calling him unfunny, etc. Not an outright attack that is aimed to defame him. You know as well as I do that if you heard someone say "DEATH TO ALL JEWS" you wouldn't believe them. Fuck, when I was in middle school, drawing swastikas on shit was the "funny" thing to do. I bet it still is. Context is more important than the content.
There is NO reason he should have to "tone down" his content. There's no reason why anybody should have to change anything about their content to prevent themselves from being harassed and defamed by big media organizations.
Felix pls hulk hogan WSJ
it means that wall street journal went to his house in person, kept knocking at his door and started asking him to go defend himself on their website that slandered him
pewdiepie never opened the door for them.

Tweet reminds me of when Sam turned the tables on a Buzzfeed writer and roasted him for going to college, getting a degree in journo, and ending up at the extremely prestigious Buzzfeed.

But man this is World Peace/Sam Hyde all over again. Another media news org twists the truth and outright lies to push their own agenda and attempt to destroy comedians in the process. Buzzfeed pulled the nazi card and got Sam's show cancelled from [as] and now WSJ pulls the nazi card and Felix yanked from Disney and his youtube show cancelled.

Well yeah. These guys aren't on some kind of moral crusade. They write controversial articles that grab attention and get clicked on. It's all about the paycheck, not the Jews or anyone else.

makes you think 🤔
I understand that Disney would want to cut ties to Pewdiepie, but they're doing it because the WSJ basically fabricated a case against him and presented it that way and it's gained so much negative attention they're basically on the ropes and have to to save face.
That's called libel, my friends
If I were Felix I'd sue the WSJ. Easy as piss win

I would even try to build a lawsuit against the three authors to prove that they're the anti-Semites.

yeah people getting angry and disney/maker are dumb. They kind of had their hands ties here, and while they could have made a stand, it'd be hugely damaging to their brand to try to do so.
I agree that pewdiepie probably could wind a libel case against WSJ though
apparently the dude who wrote the WSJ article made a holocaust joke on twitter once
