Your schooling system seems really shit. At least ours have a degree of centralization, little quality control, that is, even the shittiest public school's students get to start English at the age of 10-11 and a second foreign language, mostly either German or French, uncommonly Spanish and rarely Italian or Russian, at the beginning of High School. Our public schooling overall is shit too, with many students either ignoring foreign languages, just learning enough to pass the class and all, but at least it forces a little startup, a ground to build upon for the interested. Or you can put it this way: It doesn't stop people from not learning languages, even in a private college with English from kindergarden. I studied in a private school through middle/high school, and I've seen people who are yet to learn past tense, or even get beyond Hello/Howr you.
Yeah our schooling system is indeed shit. Should probably have an amendment that makes it federally funded.
The question of need is confusing, I'd say. Everybody speaks English in Washington, Idaho and all, but in many National countries around the globe everybody speaks one language anyway. Here it is Turkish, in Netherlands it is Dutch. Yet this doesn't stop people from learning languages.
The question of need is less confusing when you consider that, for many people in the US, they could literally travel a thousand miles in any direction and still be in an area where English is the primary language. In many cases they wouldn't even leave the country. It is difficult to justify the resource expenditure for foreign language on those people.
I mean, in my opinion, bottom line is, at least now with the internet it lies on you A Lot. It is comfortable to blame schooling and all, but a little determination can get you a long way. This year's beginning, I could speak a little Russian atop my English and German, without getting schooled at all (I was schooled in both English and German) but if I wasn't a lazy fuck throughout this year I could maybe get to intermediate level with it, yet here I am, forgot all I knew in January. I had plenty of time too I spent with vidya gaems and tv series and sleeping.
It is crazy how much resources are there on the Internet. If you are curious about knowing another language, thinking in a new way, I say go for it, google it. Save yourself even if you cant save all USA.
That is the issue though. It isn't something you can do later in life. You can learn another language later in life, but unless you put in a ridiculous amount of effort, you will never think in that language. You will always think in your first language and translate.
I get some feeling that the whole bible is some sort of moral code. Depends how you look at it. You know, the book of Acts in the New Testament can be interpreted as a witness account. it's a piece of contemporary evidence from the time of King Herod and Josephus (ancient history).
Given the convoluted, ever changing interpretations, it's definitely some kind of code.

Reach the big Christians writers from over a thousand years ago and you'll basically see everything that you see in modern day Christianity.
I don't get the point that people are illustrating. Pointing out the insanity of the old testament and new testament doesn't somehow justify the Korans backwardsness.
Not a single country blindly abides by the christian books like Saudi Arabia or ISIL do with the Koran. The worst christianity has is countries like Uganda killing homosexuals and perhaps the Lords resistance army.
The point is that you should not condemn people for the holy book they use but for how they apply it.
Don't condemn Muslims for the Koran, condemn them for applying it badly.
Just like you would if Christians actually followed the stuff that's written in the Bible.
Most Islamic countries are either ruled by a class of religious holymen or are "Islamic Republics", having Islam established as the foundation of their systems. Also most Muslims are intolerant twards homosexuals and a dozen or so Islamic countries have killing apostates and homosexuals codified into law.
Both Christianity and Islam are abhorrant but at least Christians don't follow christian teachings.
I don't know man, we sent Homosexuals into correction facilities not 100 years ago. Not saying that what those countries do is justifyable, just saying that we aren't THAT far ahead.
