I think the most fun I had was with GGL during its short run.
On stalkerRP I had a military member, a ravenwood member turned bandit, an ecologist, and a gun trader.
Was quite fun running around detaining people and deporting them.
During the servers height it was constant 60 players and that is really cool when you have 10 or more people from every faction on all the time.
Fuck I miss good SRP.

I wish we had dice rolls when I RPd extensively. Combat was often RP based so it was basically 2 power tripping idiots trying to out type each others actions. Try to rob a guy at gun point and he thinks he can RP being he-man and just grab the gun out of my hands with it pointed at his head. Yeah sorry I'm not letting you do that.

I remember saying this in a different HL2RP thread, but that isn't the gamemode's fault, it's the majority of servers. People either form into rebels or MPF, then don't let anyone else into their little admin-sponsored group; so then everyone left inbetween is just supposed to be a sad citizen who's beaten by MPF and "admire" the rebels from their apartment windows.
That doesn't happen all of the time, though. As long as the admins aren't dicks (which they are 80-85% of the time) they'll let you do whatever. One time, I started an entire pseudo-rebel group and managed to gather a following of 8 complete strangers, none of them anything except basic players, then kept that going for a couple months. No admins helped us at any point, which is what separated us from the "real" Resistance; we didn't get any uniforms or asspulled items. We had to organize a heist or a deal for every weapon we wanted to get.
What I'm trying to say is, as long as the admins are cool, you can do whatever you want in HL2RP if you go out and talk to people. It's not inherently built to discourage citizens from doing anything except being sad.

An HL2RP server called Lemonpunch fixes this. As a Citizen, there are factories and actual work details that go on so that the Citizenry has something to do.

Fun times. I tried some kuroscript server like a year ago. The shit people try to pull is terrible, the most common being that dystopian supersoldier bullshit that makes them impossible to realistically kill off. The first encounter was a guy who was being held at gunpoint by me and a friend. His situation he was trying to roleplay was grabbing two eagles out of his pockets in a split second to shoot us so we just killed him instead of dealing with that.
I've played in alot of Half-Life 2 roleplaying communities (didn't stay too long, probably a month or so before I left) but the most memorable ones were Catalyst-Gaming, SlideFuse and Timsland. Man, oh, man. I felt ashamed for acting like a total douchebag. Otherwise, those memories continue to be with me. I had some laughs here and there and that's all that matters.

Meh, not like it means anything regardless.
Once I became an old timer on TnB I had already pissed off half the admins (thanks to my lovely brand of depression and hatred for all things erp). Of course the ones who did like me at all I had to fanagle into letting me do ANYTHING creative and it took forever for anything like that to happen.
I think the only time I ever got seriously banned was when I told a recruit CP to go fuck himself when he arrested me without authorization for standing where I wasn't supposed to for too long and told me to "go on another character". For some reason me telling him off for breaking the rules was worse than him breaking the rules and not allowing me to play my character.

i guess i was lucky when i played hl2rp. i never played much of it, but both of the servers i remember playing on were really cool. the admins (in both cases they were head of the police) never abused power (at least when i was around) and they let gangs grow large enough to where we would stage massive raids on either enemy gangs or the police compound and vice versa. twas fun
Playing as a CP was good shit though, mostly.
Usually I was the only one to have enough initiative to make something happen. Setting up checkpoints to pester civilians, ration handouts, outposts in the rebel-infested part of town (I still remember the time me and some other units chilled in our outpost, when suddenly OH NO REX LEE ATTACKS THE OUTPOST WITH AN RPG!).
My favourite was building a forced labour camp, rounding up all the civvies and then sending them in. It inspired some great RP and even more YU INTERRUPTED MUH PASSIVE RP whining. And let's not forget the time I organized a mass relocation to Nova Prospekt. And then the admins changed map to it and prison RP followed.
HL2RP was always shite and doesn't seem to have changed at all. I remember some servers wouldn't allow you to acquire money through a job since "In real life money doesn't magically appear out of nowhere, srs rp guyz" so you would literally spend your entire time doing nothing since there was no way of making money other than selling things, but you couldn't buy any merchandise to sell due to not having any money.
Of course the admins and CP's always had loads of fun because they'd just go around beating people up for getting to close to the nexus, but no one else was allowed to kill anyone because that would be RDMing.
