"6 guns, 4 maps, $20 please"
Hey I'll take 6 guns if it's actually 6 guns that function completely differently instead of 32 different kinds of weapons that fit into 4 roles and only serve as replacements
That's something I like about Halo, the weapons all have their own distinctive roles instead of just being a new AR to use in place of your old AR because it's farther in the unlock chain
cod4 was and still is an almost perfect example of accessible, fun, competitive, balanced, fps multiplayer that is fun for everyone.
Mate cod4 was not balanced, there was certainly a small subset of guns that were just better than everything else. Promod made it better sure but only because they cut out the bullshit and made it so everyone has to play with what was strong.
"No Ironsights"
Why the hell is that a selling point?
It's for the Call of Duty hate bandwagon fanbase that exhibit mildly sociopathic tendencies whenever they hear a FPS that's using a feature from CoD
So I guess they know their customers
Also if I want to play an old school arena FPS I will go play Quake Live, who does this game appeal to?
What kind of scrub aims down their sites irl, step it up

What is variety?
What is variety?
You mean like the influx of mobas?
What's the big deal? There's probably more Quake and UT reskins (like this) than there are modern shooters. There's nothing exciting about this. At all. The developers are trying to make this seem special but it's just as much a clone as Call of Duty.
What's special about this that sets it apart from Quake III? Or Unreal Tournament? Or Rise of the Triad? Or Nexuiz? I could go on.
i wonder if this will become the new thing, throwback first person shooters that didn't take any lessons from new games and just endlessly replicate knockoffs of quake 3 for the sake of it. please buy our game based on what we didn't spend time coding, such as sighted guns and more than nine weapons
I want this game inside me. Can't wait to get my hands on it.
This game is anything I hoped for a FPS

Or more like the Anti-Christ of recent shooters
This is exactly what I wanted from the new UT.
I don't need that anymore. Buying this A-fucking-SAP.
hope it has bunny hopping

Really
Watch them try to sell this game for full standard video game price lol
Oh good, it'll probably die slightly slower then
I don't see why people are complaining about the trailer. They need to hype it up like this or it will get almost zero exposure.
People seem to be hating on this already because it's cool to go against the crowd. Just wait for some actual gameplay footage.
Really
see i don't have any problem at all with a throwback arena shooter i just think making it with a weirdly elitist ulterior motive is a really bad reason to produce a video game, especially when it involves throwing away valid things learned in the making of recent shooters (like CoD 4 which everyone always says was great) while also priding itself on being far superior out of some sense of nostalgia
[editline]2nd August[/editline]
if the gimmick is about what this game isn't rather than the effort put into it, then of course the game will die quickly. i think it's quite clear that the best this game can ever hope for is to be called a competent sign of protest rather than a manipulative cashgrab

People are gating on it because the selling point of the trailer is rather stupid.

your video game's selling point should never ever be "look at all these features we DON'T HAVE!!", that's just retarded
When there are so many FPSes being released nowadays, you need to differentiate yourself from the competition. If the game does live up to what they're saying, I see no reason why they shouldn't be boasting about these features.
Sure, you can quietly release it and get a small niche following on the internet, or you could use what a trailer is supposed to do and make the game appeal to the mass market. You have to get very lucky to get popular through word of mouth alone. The features that are being advertised are the features that differentiate it from the rest of modern FPS.
What's this? A first person shooter that relies on skill, and not regenerating health, iron sights, and instant kill knife attacks? Color me interested.
How do any of those things take away skill?
Looks like a revitalized UT2k4, in a good way. Twitch shooters desperately need a comeback like this

True, but what they are advertising is rather bland and uninspiring. You don't see a lot of these games now days for a reason, there is not a big demand for them.

Yeah I agree that it does seem like a rather niche genre now, but people shouldn't be so quick to write this off based on a teaser trailer. It's always nice to have more choices.
Remember last time a game advertised itself solely as an "old school shooter" was Hard Reset, which was a flaccid game with few weapons, boring environments, and roughly 3 enemy types.
Not saying this game will be that, but I think cynicism is probably the safer route to go with retro style games.
All looks very promising but the visuals is kinda meh. Would prefer more cleaner visuals.
The art style + graphics make me feel like I'm looking at Halo 4

Funny because I associate something oldschool with having a bunch of enemy and weapon variety
The notion of building something to be oldschool is dumb IMO, just as the notion that you need ironsights or 40 different variations of the same weapon for unlocks for a game to be playable is.
A game can have any type of old or new mechanic as long as it works with the other mechanics/themes of the game and is made well, and having or lacking something shouldn't make it bad or good just because it exists.
Honestly looks fun but this is such a stupid marketing gimmick
"HEY GUYS REMEMBER WHEN QUAKE WAS COOL XD #90sKid"
Arena-shooter style FPS isn't any better or worse than CoD-style, I'd argue that its worse in several ways and better in others. There's a reason why certain game mechanics introduced in quake/UT died off in the 2000's - they simply weren't good. And there's a reason why certain things in CoD caught on (ironsights for example) - because they are good and add a more interesting element to game (though not as useful if its a super fast paced shooter).
People who think quake and UT are the pinnacle of game design are fucking dumb, just like those who thing CoD does everything right are dumb too. Its a fundamentally different style of shooter, and in the case of UT/quake some stuff just doesn't feel as good as modern FPS's simply because when those games were made, it was made quite early on before people knew better.
I'd argue that the reason why the new wolfenstein game is actually good because it understands the strengths of modern shooter design, yet at the same time knows how apply those strengths to an older-style of shooter design. Blind worship of 90's era in games is stupid because it often preserves the worst part about games that came out then for the sake of nostalgia.
That said if you guys are interested in this, you should look up strike vector. Its very much along the same lines except descent-like vs UT-like. Here's a video I made a few months ago showing it off (its got a lot more updates since then):

didn't strike vector release at like, 20 bucks and because of that the community is only in the 2 digit range?
