As bad ass as this looks I think I have to stick to not supporting Activision-Blizzard anymore than I already have. I have always been partial to DoW anyway, although I will say it looks like they developed the storyline of one race enough to mostly justify the split into 3 separate games. Mostly.
relic split the original DoW into four games

no wait three
winter assault was a expansion i think

Personally I thought the Deus Ex Human Revolution trailer was better but that's just my bias twoards Deus Ex talking.
Not saying it was a bad trailer or anything.
Honestly I've seen videos of Starcraft 2 at all and it doesn't look appealing to me at all. I can understand why others like it - it's a "classic" game and one of the first RTS games to have a serious effort put into story and 3 completely different but balanced sides, but from the footage of the sequel it doesn't look like they've "modernized" the gameplay at all.
I guess that works for fans of Starcraft but I'm not really convinced. I might end up picking this up though depending on if everyone I know plays it and I can get over the fact that the gameplay is more about clickspeed than strategy (so I hear).
Plus that trailer does spark interest in the story for me, even if it was just CGI cutscenes and the gameplay will probably be nothing similar to the action and visuals shown in it.
Blizzard never ceases to impress.
This also makes me think of old games where the 'amazing CGI trailers' were much poorer quality than what we now play games as today. I can't wait for the day that we get to play games with graphics of this quality in game instead of just cinematics.

The gameplay in the first is so utterly well-tuned to change the core of the game with some huge overhaul would have been stupid. It's been updated and altered, but it's still the same old Starcraft, which is not at all a bad thing. Honestly for me it could have been Starcraft 1 with 200-unit selection cap and better pathfinding and I'd pay $60 for it.

It's not, at all, although the ability to act quickly helps when things get frenzied and you have to micromanage stalkers with blink or something like that or are trying to neural parasite a carrier or some shit.

Lucckkyyy
If I had $100 I would've in a heartbeat
Also, the third person stuff is possible on the Starcraft 2 engine using scripts. Basically you draw a invisible line and where the line collide with anything is where the bullet hits.
I'm confused... parts of that video looks so good... and others look terrible.
Particularly texturing, as well as lighting in certain scenes. The ships looked bad, and a lot of the marine armor looked pixelated and shitty up close.
But the scenes with Kerrigan are awesome looking.
The only thing that makes this game better is that I am getting it for free.
I love the youtube comments.
"THE GAMEPLAY IS BORING, IT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE THE TRAILER, THUMBS UP IF U AGREE"
Ffuuuck need to raise $100 AUD in 3 days :v:
Preordering this, hope to god the have the CE in stock
I'm confused... parts of that video looks so good... and others look terrible.
Some of it is running in realtime, while other parts are pre-rendered seperately from the engine. I'm guessing most of it will be realtime in SC2, with a couple pre-rendered ones for the beginning and the ending. It may not be realtime either, but it's definetly in-engine cinematics.
I... wha... why...
:frog:
it's mainly a multiplayer game.
The campaign wont even be good i guess. And i'd get raped by micromanaging koreans.

Won't even be good? Did you even play the first one? Did you see the trailer? All they are doing is building up to the story. People have been completely neglecting it. Just because everyone plays multiplayer doesn't mean the singleplayer experience sucks.
Anyone who found the trailer good, are actually (knowingly or not) captivated by the story, not the gameplay.
Is it just me or does Starcraft 2 release date feel like it came out of nowhere?
It was always :sigh: 2010. Then BAM!
I don't remember Ghost Kerrigan being that hot in SC1, but whatever.
Also Blizzard are indisputably the best when it comes to CGI trailers.
my local gamestation recieved 1 collectors edition :frog:
order online time.

Holy mother of God, that was amazing.
]Troll! If this doesn't convince you Starcraft is an awesome game you're not Human!
Now don't be like that. Some people just don't enjoy these kinds of games.
Like, me personally, I'm not very good at RTS games, but I still understand that this will be one of the most amazing games this year, and I'm still excited because it's a good game in general, even if I don't enjoy the genre all that much :buddy:
dat sniper
Funny, I was just watching This trailer and before it started, I saw a youtube commercial for SCII :v:
Hahahaha... yeah no...
Personal robotic combat suits painted blue with an orange visor looks ridiculous? By ridiculous do you mean ridiculously awesome? Or would you rather them run around in skimpy jumpsuits.
So you're essentially saying they were lying by making that 3rd person demo? I don't think they'd openly lie to their fans like that, it isn't really their style plus it would be sort of stupid. I think you may be missing something, the bullet in 3rd person may be a unit or an object of some type different from the usual bullets fired by the normal engine. I don't think it will be that tedious, being a developer myself.
Nope. I was right. As I said, I played a similar map in the Beta, it was actually more developed then the one shown by Blizzard, but anyway that's not the point. It's not hard to make a hack and slash game or a top down shooter in the editor, making an FPS however is. An RPG or a hack an slash game would be easy to make because an RTS already has all the stuff needed: controlling a unit with the mouse, path finding, spells, collision detection...
FPSs on the other hand are very different, no RTS needs line to terrain collision, no RTS needs to know where the unit was hit (apart from some units taking more damage from a certain angle or something)... This would all have to be coded by the map maker.
FPS/TPS would be a possibility but don't expect a fully functional one any time soon.
I just know someone is going to say that they already played a TPS in SCII without even reading what I said.
It's so awesome, but whenever i see this, I always wonder what would've happened if blizz did 40k instead. I want to see that alternate universe SO BAD. FUCK.
IMO spehhss mahreens, eldar and tyranids are way more awesome, but the trailer did a good job making these guys look cool
Fuck I can't wait anymore I want this game.

I just hope there's a demo even though I know there wont be one (since it'll sell on name alone and doesn't need one).
I might be willing to bear the "old style" RTS design if I feel compelled enough by the gameplay and the story aspects. I'm just so used to games like Supreme Commander that everything else just feels outdated to me.
The 27th is the release date so doesn't that mean I'll get it on the 28th? that's what happened with Ratchet: deadlocked.
Gamestop gave me crysis 3 days early

even if you don't like the old rts the editor is worth it
thats like hundreds of games put into one
you could even get "new style" RTS custom game designs from the editor if they could make a turn base one and DDR
