how these guys became bronies and whovians - General

I have a friend who's a brony. He constantly leaves messages on Facebook that are related to MLP: FIM. Stuff like "Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy NEED TO BE TOGETHER!", "FLUTTERSHY IS SO CUTE!!!:)" and "Wish Rainbow Dash was real :(". I don't talk to him much.

I lost 8 friends within the span of about 30 minutes and changed it immediately :v:

I don't know what I was expecting.

So if I like Doctor Who I'm a whovian? I don't get all these nicknames. Seriously, I just WATCH Dr. Who, it's a great show, but these sort of things put me off of it.
