I'd agree, but the reality is that fitting x64 processors into small spaces sacrifices too much power for it to be worth it in any way.
Still, making a palmtop of your own is easier than it has ever been, using a Raspberry Pi and a phone screen.

I'm not so sure of this, there are plenty of atom windows tablets that can run a lot of productive software, they're just not that useful until you pair them with a real keyboard.

I've seen you people carrying 6-7" monstrosities around, I've got plenty of UMPC's in that size range.

for a majority of people, everything they would ever need to do on a computer is much better suited for current smartphones.

That appears to be the point. They're for entertainment and communication. If you're trying to "get things done" with them, whatever those "things" may be, you should be willing to sit down with a better machine.
