I remember posting in the original thread when it appeared, playing on it in the early days right at launch. Its really weird thinking back in general to old gmod. I miss all that magic from early Gmod. I haven't even played since April 20th, 2012. That actually makes me rather sad, given how much time I put in to it. Loading it up when I'd get home from school or when I'd wake up, and spending all day just playing around, building shit, exploring maps, [del]roleplaying[/del], playing different gamemodes. This is the end for one of one of gmod's most ambitious projects. One of those things that so many here knew, a pillar of the community in way. Uhhg, gives an empty feeling thinking about how all that is gone or disappearing.

I have to wonder in general whats next. I know Gmod 2 will be a thing in some form at some point, but it is sad to send-off an era.
I've made friendships that will last me a life time because of GMT. Lots of good memories of meeting people, having fun, and just overall enjoying the presence of others. Basically the school-life I never had, as weird as that may sound.
The super shotgun in PVP battle was one of my favorite shotguns in a videogame, just for the shotgun jump alone. I hope an addon for it gets released.
I never had a chance to play GMod Tower. Maybe that's better because I would miss it so much?
I never got to try Lobby 2! It looked so cool. Can't believe I had forgotten about it in such an unfortunate time.
fuck. i never got to play it.
MiniGolf and BallRace were the best, mainly because PvP was laggy as fuck for me, same as Virus. The best shit was me and my mate just building random crap in our flats, examples:

PLEASE tell me that the nightclub in Tower Unite has SoundCloud integration, because that was incredibly hilarious
My hope is that Tower Unite will top that, over time.
You will be missed, GMT.

:(
i remember when i started playing gmod tower in 2010. i remember all of the missing textures and models because the only game i owned was portal. in 2013, i returned from a long break from gmt, and the casino was one of my favorite places to go. in mid 2014, i was accepted to become a developer and i got to know everybody. i planned on adding a game show styled trivia game to lobby 2, but it never got added. then, i made texas hold 'em which was way better than 5-card draw. it was a nightmare for me to code. some time passed, and then video poker turned up. finally, i got to make a new years countdown clock which was real fun, and i made all of the lobby fuckups (gamemodes inaccessible, media broken, teleporters broken, etc) and the countdown timer for lobby 2. working on gmod tower was the best thing that ever happened to me and i'm happy i got to know the community, as well as the funny and awesome lead developers that are making tower unite.
i tried looking up gmod tower memories
only got these two images, the others got lost in the void i guess.

That one time I could get a decent score in PvP

My memories of playing mini-golf on GMOD tower was one of the most rage and hype inducing games i've had in the last few years. I got so hype that i woke up my whole family. great day that was. I also remember playing my music in the club and everyone enjoying it. that was great also, I'm heavily considering nabbing tower unite right now. but i want to see if anyone is willing to hop in with me.
Oh. and thanks for the fun guys... I'll miss GMOD Tower... But the future lies on tower unite!
Sad to see it go. I tried playing it back sometime in 2013/2014. I played for about a week until I felt like it was just far too late for me to really join in with everyone, so I went off and did other things. I did have a fun time while I was there with the minigames like the hunt the Chimera game, but I felt like GMTower wasn't something you could just sustain yourself with on minigames.
The real reason that for me it's sad to go is that it was the last true strongholds of Garry's Mod. By 2014-2015, there weren't many good servers and communities left. It was mostly just DarkRP and TTT scam communities designed to pinch the most out of people through "donations". At that time, GMTower was basically the last community easily accessible that actually cared about the game. Now that's gone. Garry's Mod, to me, is now dead.

Will it just start out as DarkRP-likes, TTT2, and probably some Rust/DayZ knock-off, or will it have that same spread of varied game modes and different communities. Every few months I pause on Gmod and consider reinstalling, trying to track down some of the old communities I'd play in and seeing what new ones may have arisen. But everything seemed to indicate there was little to return to.

There are a few still good, whole communities out there, it's just usually they're small or otherwise hard to find since they don't conform to the norm. For example, back about a year ago I used to play with a TTT community that was very good, so much so that I stuck around and grew to knew quite a few people and even became a mod for the server. After a while though, the owner didn't really want to own it anymore so the community was disbanded. Later, a former mod created his own community similar to the previous one. It was still good for a while, but soon it became apparent about how much of a douchebag that former mod really was so another group splintered off and created their own community, taking most of the playerbase with it. After that this new community installed quite a few custom mods which I found absolutely terrible so I left after that. It was one of the last good memories I have of playing Garry's Mod.
Other then those small groups though, it's a sorry state of affairs. Even communities and gamemodes that previously had a high barrier-of-entry such as the various SeriousRP communities have become infested with hacks, mingebags, and 12 year olds that watch Seananners. It's truly sad to see what has happened to Garry's Mod.

imo gmod has been pretty much dead ever since Fretta/GarryWare/Sassilization died in 2013-14ish, GMT and another server that recreated Sassilization were the only servers that I actually played on after that, until that Sass recreation server died in 2015, and now GMT.
I really wish someone would start a network of these old gamemodes / servers, it would be a blast. Though I guess to do that you'd have to have enough people who could be arsed enough to use the legacy browser instead of clicking on the top gamemode on the list.

shit's fucked when even darkrp went downhill
So I found the first ever screenshot I ever took of GModTower. I can't remember what was going on but I found it amusing.

Had a lot of fun playing this with my friends, we originally discovered this gamemode when we were having a LAN. We ended up spending almost the entire week playing it together, farming ball-race and the like. I met a lot of cool people, including some guy playing guitar outside the Arcade to a crowd of 20 something people (and also Garry that one time).
also, RIP hula doll collection

I made this like two years ago

RIP :disappoint:
Hey that's my beta footage at the very beginning of the video! DMCA Notice incoming. God I was 14 when I played Gmod Tower.

There was a time where I didnt really like / Understood Gmod. Just thought it was a weird sandbox game. Then I saw an Icton (Djy1991) stream of this and I was blown away. So much you could do, it really opened my eyes to the capabilities of Gmod. It was such a great community.
With that said I just spent hours claiming to the very top of the lobby and jumping down to my death. :v:
.. RIP
I stockpiled barrels of beer in the closet of Lobby 1's suites. They had weird collision, so I piled like about 65 barrels in the back. And then they updated it and expanded the prop limit, so I played for hours to get more beer. Then I covered the closet in glass so nobody could drink my beer stash. My friend and I created a .txt file that had the tricks to Waterhole, which I used to make some bank and buy more shit. I also used Ballrace to farm, shit was a good fuckin time. My friend and I bought smith agent playermodels and then just walked into people's suites and played their pianos. I actually got pretty good at a lot of the songs on the piano, felt good yo.
I remember when I was really young, as was GMT, and how much I wanted to buy one of those rabbit playermodels but I was always shit broke because I'd spend it on like catbags and shit. I also remember the beer and that I believe it took like eleven drinks before you died. Eleven made you super drunk, you couldn't see, and you vommed on everything. There'd be people complaining that the server needed to be restarted because the beer painted the entire server to the point of lag.
I made a lot of friends with GMT, and I'm gonna miss it. I bought Tower Unite, also, but I'm afraid that it won't live up to the expectation. Nonetheless, good luck to them. RIP, GMT.
are the newest maps available for download?
I really liked the newest lobby version.
Sad to see it go
I'm actually kinda shocked to see myself in the credits since personally I think I might have made more problems than improvements. Still I think those several months while I was one of the GMT programmers was one of the best things to happen to me in my 11 years of playing gmod and I want to thank GMT team for giving me this opportunity. Even though I have almost not played it since leaving the team in 2010, I will always remember GMT as one of the best Garry's Mod projects ever made.

Are you kidding me?
I was just starting to save up for an actual gaming PC so I could get into this.
I feel extremely sad now.
So they're removing it completely?
Why?
I mean yeah I get that they want to make their own standalone game, but i'm scared it won't compare.

Well to be fair, they announced that they were wanting to do this back in February - May? of 2015 with the failed kickstarter and then July or August of 2015 with the successful indiegogo campaign.

Oh.
Well if this is what they want to do with the game i'm totally fine with it.
Aww they even used my favourite Timber Timbre song in the video :)
Such a great gamemode, so many memories!
