I think it has something to do with the fact [b]everyone[/b] in those games think they are better then everyone else skill-wise.
Something about the games make people think they can "1v5" and win but when people slowly realize they aren't as good as those pro players, that's when they start getting angrier and angrier.
League games are like smoking; you first start smoking with your friends every once in a while and have a blast cause its so new and fun. It's funny because even a game like EVE is by far more tolerable and fun than the trash in MOBAs, and EVE has been autism central station for YEARS now. Something is really, really bad when a new genre attracts more poisonous and retarded individuals than the main community of a game that's been around for the last 12 years.

An issue I've noticed with any game that gets a competitive scene is that you have a skill-pyramid of players and that their attitudes change throughout, with the least players on top, and the most on bottom.
[B]Very Top -[/B] Actual top-of-the-top tier competitive players. Basically demigods at whatever game. Most of them have a casual or good attitude, but there are a few sour apples.
[B]Top -[/B] Competitive players who've actually carved something out for themselves. Typically take the game pretty seriously and can come off as toxic because of that.
[B]Near Top -[/B] The vast sea of competitive washouts who cannot bring themselves to climb any higher because of an inability to get better or, more likely, that they have a dismal attitude that keeps anyone from wanting to work with them. Quick to get angry, assumes that they know everything about the game, and often have an inflated ego because they refuse to let better players put them in their place.
[B]Middle High -[/B] Pubstars and other highly skilled, but non-competitive players. Either from lack of interest, team forming, etc. Attitudes range from extremely friendly to toxic garbage, and anything inbetween. Same with their egos. Some stay here because of disinterest in competitive or are simply playing for fun, others are an even worse variety of comp washout that vents their frustration on trying to act superior over casual players.
[B]Middle -[/B] Generic decent players. Game veterans. Etc. Nothing spectacular. Attitudes are usually pretty good, and are usually informed about game mechanics.
Then from there, it's generic bad players, new players, and the unwashed braindead scum who you can't for the life of you figure out how they're operating a computer.
From not having played any, but having been in a few bad MMOs and watching plenty of friends go apeshit at DOTA/LOL - I think it's because there is simply so much riding on every match that it drives people insane. You see a lesser effect in World of Tanks. Take that in comparison to some people casually playing Team Fortress 2 or Killing Floor, where literally nothing is at stake other than pride.

see the thing is I've been banned a couple times now for shit talking (actual game ban and a ton of chat bans). I agree that's how it should be though, if you're toxic you deserve to be handled as such. Usually the 3 day ban will help ya cool off anyway, ya dont gotta play league all the time ya know
MOBAs don't make people bad, they are simply a high stress situation that brings the aggression out of people. Adrenaline goes up, body has no physical outlet for it, so it builds up; it leads to something akin to office rage.

Also, though, I think that in a way it's good, because if you can reliably play MOBAs with your friends and [I]not[/I] get mad at each other, then you really know things work between you. And in general, I consider MOBA my training of patience and self control, and as time goes on, I do indeed find myself far more able to tolerate failures of my mates without getting abrasive and toxic, as well as find it easier to simply stand down and ignore pubbies or shittalky enemies.
It's a bit like the vice principal in our high school advised us in one of the last talks before we graduated - if you want to be sure things will work well with your future spouse, take them to a river in a canoe and (in a relatively safe and controllable moment) tip it over. You get to see how people really are, when shit hits the fan.
I definitely don't mean that everyone who refuses to endure MOBAs is weak or isn't trying hard enough, it's definitely not something for anybody and I honestly don't really ever recommend DOTA 2 to any friends who haven't played it yet, but I don't think it's a wholly damnable sport for fun, either.

Well consider the fact that in virtually any other circumstance you wouldn't scream at the top of your lungs and call your buddy every bad name in the book because he took the wrong lane and fed the team, because in virtually any other circumstance such actions could not be taken.
The very nature of the game itself creates too many possibilities for people to do and that's why it is inherently shit. It's like playing an RTS game except all of your dudes on the field are controlled independently and when they do something you don't want them to do, it ruins a strategy. I like the concept of teamwork but when something doesn't pan out it's no reason to say with absolute conviction "i'm going to fucking murder you, you stupid fucking cunt" to a friend or acquaintance who just doesn't get into the game as much as you do.
I'm not saying that it's impossible to play and have fun banter between buddies, but from 90% of what I've seen and experienced at LAN events and tournament streams hosted locally in my area, that's what it turns into. So-called friends getting pissed to the point that if they weren't nerds they would punch whoever they were yelling at.
