I don't understand a single reference beyond Colbert and Frozen.
I feel out of the loop.

That's something to be proud of.
In this thread: "I am too cool to acknowledge most or any of these people, and the millions of subscribers they have are all stupid, whereas I am very smart and have great taste in what things I should like. Mainstream stuff is still super lame, whereas I like obscure stuff, which is what is actually cool."
like I get it you don't like whatever or know whoever, but I think it's cool that they even bother to do these, so I'll enjoy it
edit:
on the mix: yeah actually not the greatest. I didn't really care for the one posted here either though, it's probably super hard to make them so I don't hold it against anyone
Last year's was better imo. Much more stuff I recognized and it was actually quite entertaining.

there is some of that feeling yeh but mostly the way i see it is that i've seen pretty much every major popular and trending video youtube but none of that is represented here. this is all million-dollar billion-subscriber superstars who don't actually have a singularly excellent video, they just have a massive fanbase that requires dedication and time to get into which, to a great deal of people, isn't what youtube is about
i'd rather a youtube retrospective of the year was just a compilation of amazing moments from trending videos all around the world from all kinds of different people and accounts, but obviously with references to these guys cos they're a huge part of youtube - but not nothing but these $$$superstars$$$ having a big circlejerk
It was okay. I liked that GMM was in there.
2:23, is that dance some reference to a video? Looks extremely cool. Also, what song is the bassline/instrument thingy from in that part?
Frozen was 2013 what the fuck
It was released in 2013, but it hit mainstream hard in 2014. A lot of things that are the "thing" of 2014 came on 2013. The title sake of this video, Turn Down for What, came out in 2013, too.
Oh wow I didn't expect World Order to appear.
Did not expect the guys from Crashcourse to be there.
They have a ton of videos about history and other neat stuff.
imagine the audio was this, it will be at least 25% better
