Is it only me who thinks the voices sound like shit? Sounds like an athsmatic who talks while breathing inwards instead of outwards fucked GLaDOS and had a fucked up robot-baby.

Pretty much my entire reaction to this video.
Day one buy. There really is no reason to not get this.
I thought that this is a joke when I first saw the video... I NEED THIS I HAVE TO BUY A 3DS
Now I want to see an AC version of this
This is Animal Crossing on crack and about a dozen other illicit substances
Samus should have chose Reggie.
No, that means he is still up for the taking.
brb, buying a 3ds, i want reggie in my life
I want to get a 3DS just for this. :v:
The weird voices are the only thing that bother me. They are creepy as hell
The weird voices are the only thing that bother me. They are creepy as hell
It's hard to make normal sounding computer generated voices for cheap that can run on a handheld system.
Reminds me of a combination of LSD Simulator and Animal Crossing.
It sounds like DECTalk
Which means Moonbase Tomodachi
Oh my god
Never before have I ever genuinely wanted a nintendo console, but I am compelled to own one just to play this
I am buying it just for the voices. They remind me of Moonbase Alpha so much and I just love how those voices talk
I'm still confused about the actual gameplay, though. Literally all they've shown gameplay-wise was feeding a Mii and creating a Mii's personality. What do you actually do for the rest of the game? Is there an English review of the Japanese version somewhere?
Well 3DS are on sale at Target!

Its more of a look-through box thingy where you can observe their lives. There is a series of mini games and smaller activities you can do but it mainly revolves around the Mii's and how they start to evolve relationships with each other.

That is strange, Nintendo shipped out review versions of this game months before its release and told the journalists to publish anything they want regarding ingame footage/screenshots without any embargoes.
FAQ:
Is this a viral stunt?
No.
Then how did you get this game early?
I'm a games journalist for CVG.co.uk and received a review copy of the game on Friday.
Isn't it embargoed?
Whereas Nintendo (and other big publishers) usually put embargoes on game content, heavily restricting any screenshots or videos of the game before a certain date, this isn't the case with Tomodachi. Instead, Nintendo has told press they are free to share as many screenshots and videos as they like in the hope Tomodachi will gain popularity before release. In this case, I think it deserves it, so I'll be doing more if there's enough demand in the comments.
How does this singing thing even work? What level of customisation do you have?
There are a number of different song styles you can unlock and 'gift' to your Miis. When you choose a song style the melody is set for you and you're shown the entire list of lyrics. You can then tap a line and change the words. You can change them to whatever you like (no swearing though), but the results are generally better if the number of syllables is the same as the default line because it fits the song better (that's why the second line sounds rushed... too many syllables)
Is Morgan Freeman in the game?!
No. There are no Miis in the game, you have to add your own or get them via StreetPass. So Morgan Freeman is a Mii I imported into the game (same with the backing dancers).
Why does he have a British accent?
This is the European version of the game - the English language speech synthesis in this version has a generic British (specifically English) accent. I don't have the North American version, but I understand the accents in that are American.
I've done some reading around and apparently there is a fair amount of actual interaction you can do, especially for customization. Every review I've read says it's really not fair to compare it to Animal Crossing or The Sims, as everyone tries to do. It's kind of its own, very hard-to-describe thing.
The Japanese trailer gave a lot more insight:

That StreetPass function is fucking incredible. I think this game is gonna be a buy for me.
No gaylationships 0/10
there was actually a glitch in the japan version that allowed gay couples to marry and have children.
the only problem was the same glitch also destroyed your game save if done wrong. It was patched out due to that.
It then emerged that a subsequent patch from Nintendo would not only fix a bug causing problems with saving progress, but also remove the 'glitch' allowing same-sex marriages in the game
??
Also with same-sex relationships they obviously can't have kids so that would also ruin the streetpass aspect.

Honestly, I am a little disappointed that they didn't include same-sex relationships to begin with, but I'm not going to let it bother me too much. The game looks too great for me to pass on because of this, though I can only hope that in future titles, Nintendo might reconsider the inclusion of such things.
I'm not gay, but I have gay friends, so it is unfortunate that I can't represent them accurately in the game.
A lot of people are actually mistaken about the whole "Nintendo patched out same-sex relationships" thing. Nintendo gave an explanation of the situation to clear things up: http://candycrushcopeland.tumblr.com/post/82295382857/nintendo-explains-why-it-patched-same-sex-relationships
Basically, it all stems from Kotaku's A+ jurnalizm being used as a source for several other sites. They started the whole rumor by misinterpreting an online screenshot fad from Japan where players were making "female" Miis with male appearances and marrying them to male Miis (which was being done as a somewhat derogatory joke, by the way). Kotaku and thus every site using them as their source misinterpreted this as the game allowing gay relationships.
The actual bug was that Miis being imported from the first game on DS or from a Wii were being scrambled and screwing up the game, sometimes causing Miis to be shoved into already-existing relationships (and thus sometimes creating same-sex relationships). This ended up breaking the game and causing corrupted save files where you couldn't progress further. This is why Nintendo patched it. Pretty simple. It had nothing to do with explicitly removing same-sex relationships. Kotaku only thought so because some Twitter user had Tweeted Nintendo about such a relationship happening in their game and Nintendo responded saying that it needed to be patched.

I actually never heard of this reason before- it makes sense, though I do feel that most gay individuals interested in getting this game wouldn't mind losing that streetpass aspect in order to be properly represented.
In the end, it's not something that's going to hamper my enjoyment of the game, but I can't say that the fact they're not including such relationships makes me happy.

Yeah, it's definitely understandable to want it to be in the game, especially since you make yourself in the game. It really just comes down to the game being Japanese. Their culture differs from ours in how they view homosexuality. In a Japanese game designed for kids and casual players, it just isn't gonna be included.
Of course, they could've implemented it into the western versions, but chose not to for reasons unknown. Oh well.

Yeah, I know that. I just thought it was a bit of a shame it wasn't even put in to begin with. I understand that the political and social climate is different there, but that still doesn't really justify the whole thing.
Anyway, I still can't wait for this game to come out. Additionally, I'm still holding out for a proper WarioWare on the 3DS. I love it when Nintendo makes weird games.
I'm still holding out for a proper WarioWare on the 3DS.
Tell me about it. I'm still holding out for a proper WarioWare in general. While the newer ones they've done have interesting new gameplay ideas, they just aren't as good as the original concept.
They should bring Twisted to VC in some form; it was my favorite and both Wii U and 3DS have gyroscopes in them which would enable proper emulation.

So I've actually been playing an incomplete fan translation of the first DS Tomodachi Collection. This is pretty fucking addicting, and I'm only one day in. The customization really draws you in.
I'm definitely buying the 3DS version now.
