This was meant to be some sort of experiment by him iirc
it was a dumb experiment but he wasn't serious
you have no reason to believe me but I've known pogo for a while, I went to school with him. He's a super hardcore trump supporter and climate change denier. He's a good dude but he has some pretty crazy opinions sometimes
yeah i followed pogo on twitter for a while and hes really, really into the whole "alt-right" mindset. damn shame too cause he seemed cool at first. not to mention its odd because TNG is like.. not rightwing at all so im not sure why hes a fan of that. like a lot of the stuff they preach or talk about in the show contradicts many of his beliefs.
To expand on this, Star Trek has somewhat radically "modern" ideas? I guess I should say? It has episodes about gods, androgynous gender identity, race issues, all types of shit. Just naming the latter two

2 races that lived on the same planet. One hates the other out of feeling of superiority. And the other is the 'victim' of it all, who terrorizes the other out of hatred and fear. [sp]At the end of the episode, their entire planet was destroyed and they ignored Kirks warning, going down and killing eachother, ultimately both became eradicated[/sp]

A race of purely androgynous beings. They were negotiating some things as a side plot, but the episode was about [sp]one of their kind who was not 'normal' in the eyes of the race, and identified as a woman[/sp]
she even had a huge speech about it that was pretty amazing
"I am female. I was born that way. I have had those feelings, those longings, all of my life. It is not unnatural. I am not sick because I feel this way. I do not need to be helped. I do not need to be cured. What I need, and what all of those who are like me need, is your understanding. And your compassion. We have not injured you in any way. And yet we are scorned and attacked. And all because we are different. What we do is no different from what you do. We talk and laugh. We complain about work. And we wonder about growing old. We talk about our families and we worry about the future. And we cry with each other when things seem hopeless. All of the loving things that you do with each other – that is what we do. And for that we are called misfits, and deviants and criminals. What right do you have to punish us? What right do you have to change us? What makes you think you can dictate how people love each other?"

personally it IS a bit weird when someone disagrees with a lot of the 'deeper' meaning behind it all. That isn't to say you have to be basically Bernie Sanders to like it, my dad is a breitbart watching Alex Jones loving fanatic that cuddles kittens and he loves it. Star Trek is as progressive as you can really get with television shows, so when people who are right winged love it its either
1. They don't understand the underlying message because its not for them, other things are
2. They understand but disagree and still like the show
why would his political opinion stop you from loving the video? i dislike his political views but i still like this track and another all the same.
i mean, if he removed the video because of his political opinion, then his political opinion literally stops me from loving the video because it doesn't exist
i was actually looking for a reupload, the song is still sick regardless of what he thinks

The song is only half the reason I love the video; the editing skills Pogo has are incredible. He recorded all of it in front of a green screen strip in his living room with a few LED lights and one red uniform. The gold uniform Data wears and his golden eyes were color corrected in post; I couldn't even tell until I read about it.
Shame he's always been a bit of a douche; if I remember correctly he was banned from the US until 2021 for performing without a work visa.

oh no, I'm not looking to vilify him or anything, he's a super great dude and massively talented he just has some interesting political opinions when it comes to some things.
I've been friends with a lot of people that are great friends, I just wouldn't talk politics with them

Sorry but if that youtube video represents his actual views on women then that goes from being an "interesting political opinion" to the guy just being a scumbag.

The Federation is also semi-communist.
While that is the song, the video itself is a fan edit.
Here's the actual video.
The Federation is also semi-communist.
Semi-communist? What does that mean? I'm asking as someone who caught the occassional TNG episode on TV, growing up and didn't understand or like it, never really being into Star Trek until recently when I started watching it from the very first episode of the first season of the original generation. I think I've got 4 or 5 episodes left of the first season. It's amazing.
The Federation is also semi-communist.
Not really.
The Federation still pick the best and brightest and routinely gives them leverage and leeway to determine how large swaths of people and cultures will act or be acted upon and, the federation has very strict moral and ethic guidelines that in a couple of cases fly directly in the face of communism, and the two bodies that do embody political communism (Dominion-ideal, Romulans-in practice) in the ST universe were completely antithetical to the Federation and its ideals, and so was the race that took communism to its ideological conclusion (Borg).
Roddenberry liked the commune, the collective of different people generally getting along but doing their own thing their own way, make room here and there for specials cases and general hippie weirdness, Roddenberry was not particularly fond of Communism as an authoritative doctrine, and every time it showed up under his direct guidance on the show, it usually ended badly for those whom followed it.
The only time it works on the show is when the particular society is utterly pacifist or has godlike technology and zero material concerns.

What makes you come to this conclusion? I'm guessing you've just seen a lot of Star Trek?
I believe he meant semi-Communist in that the Federation doesn't use money. That comes down to the fact that when you can replicate literally anything for free from wall holes which are everywhere, value of material goods takes a somewhat devastating downward trend.
That said the Federation does use money when trading with outsiders.
a lot
Pretty much everything, plus there's a shit ton of interviews out there to peruse considering it's been around since 66.
If anything the Federation is a mashup of a republic and syndicalism.
