Breaking news! Runescape starts to make better songs for the game!

The music in the old Runescape reminds me of Age of Empires. What I wouldn't do to be able to go back to when I was 10.
The Old Castle Wars theme still is and remains my favorite.
Used to be my favorite minigame.
Ah.. good times. I noticed that there are membership cards at Gamestop nowadays. I feel like buying a 30 day card just for the sake of nostalgia and seeing how things have changed.
This thread is making me feel like I'm 11 again.
Back when gardening was new and dragon scimmy's were the shit.
that makes you about 13 - 14
oh man, from time to time i log in with my account that has a scythe just to be a grim reaper
also its funny when i talk like a npc and kids rage and tell me to stop
You know what we need, the good version of Runescape for only the people who played it years ago. No little kids and idiots allowed.
Let's be honest, games like Runescape are mostly shit.
The only good thing about Runescape was it's old-school graphics, and the MIDI music. It made the game's charming style.
Now they're trying to HD it up and by the end of the day it'll become just another shitty MMORPG.
The song is awful. Old tunes were more enjoyable to listen to.

Uh I don't know about everyone else in this thread but I didn't play it for the graphics and music. I played it for the quests, the skills, the trading, the social interaction ( if you consider " durr looking 4 gf " social interaction ). The point is, it was probably the first MMO experience I ever had, which made it all the more fun.
I'm sure it was the first MMO for a lot of other people here too.
Diablo 2 > Runescape

I don't know about others, but I think the quests in Runescape were so much better than quests in stuff like WoW. They weren't just 'Kill X of X' or 'Collect blahblahblah'
There may have been a couple of grind quests, but I remember loads of them being puzzle based.
There's probably older versions of runescape archived somewhere on the Internet. We could try to make some sort of private server. Kinda like SWGEmu.
The musics pretty good, not enough to make me want the game again.
Wow, this brought me back. I loved this game so much, then I realized how much time I wasted on it and hated it. I want it back, the constant want to be found by a genie, or that dragon marine. I quit, then the houses update came out. I want to go back.
I wish I could go back to the times where I put hours into this game and loved it.
Now it's crap, in my opinion.

Oh my god. That song.
Yes.
All of you are talking about the "old" runescape, but my nostalgia is different:

I know it would be this song. Definitely fits with Dungeoneering.
"Born To Do This"
:frog:

Private servers suck; trust me. See, you have the old CLIENT, but none of the SERVER CODE, which is basically the game. You have NO quests, NO skills, NO NPCs, etc.
Who still cares about runescape
I liked the old music... Brings back memories.
I'm going to take a dive into this game again. I have my good game oxygen tanks filled and anti-annoyance 8 year old earplugs on. Wish me luck, I'll tell you how it is.

hnnng nostalgia
I miss RuneScape and being 12.
Diablo 2 > Runescape
Wow great comparison bro.
Age of Empires > Bloon Tower Defense
I heard they added realistic sound effects. Like .wavs instead of .midis
I loved those synthesized sound effects.
I miss old runescape. It was so open world. There was always something to explore. I quit when I was around ~75 and there were still areas I'd never been to. I think the appeal of it was back in the day it was so simple. It had a community of kids my age (middle school), loved playing it simply because it was really immersive (hard to believe eh, for a browser based game). You had to go all over the place if you wanted to get any production done. In games like WoW all you have to do is sit in a city, the bank, auction house, everything you needed was right there. You could get virtually anything done just by staying in a city. In this game, say you wanted to make some leather armor, you had to go kill the cows, get their hides, run to the desert to find the tanner, pay him to tan your hides, and only THEN would you actually start the process of trying to make them. There was always so much to do. If you wanted to make soup there was a whole process of digging for clay, then mixing it with water, then putting it in the oven, you also had to find all the ingredients for the soup (vegetables, meat, etc.) then you had to put them together in the right order, and then cook it over a flame. There were so many steps, it made the game really immersive, versus games where you just buy the materials and press create.
Probably yet another thing that made the game great was that there was no auction house, or any general marketplace (before the Grand Exchange). This caused you to actually work for your shit. If you wanted to make something and couldn't find a seller, you had to manually go out and get those items. The market places that did exist were all players standing around that you could actually haggle with, interact in real time. Now that the GE exists, you can simply place Items that you want to sell and the price you want for them, and if you want to buy them you can get them in a matter of seconds. Sure, some people think this is better, but it seems like it removes the 'adventurer' part of the gameplay, where you actually had to work for something you wanted.
Haha, sorry for the rant, I've just been reminiscing about this game and trying to figure out what it was that made me like it so much. I know I've referenced WoW a lot, so before one of you goes in screaming that it's a better game than RS, I'm not saying WoW is bad, I'm simply comparing parts of them that seemed more fun in RS.
What has happened to so many older games. Just raped with shitty updates. I loved Runescape the way it was.

Especially the sea shanty :]
I think we all loved sea shanty.
Runescape was more or less Baby's First Ultima Online. I would love to go back to when I was 11 and first discovered it, so much fun it was.
