The show is for young kids, not us.
They don't care as much as we do.
In 20+ years when they do it again, those kids will be complaining like we are.
On the animation quality, of course they do, and it's not an excuse to be lazy. Lots of kids shows have incredible animation, and it tends to pay off.
Yesterday at work I heard a kid chanting that "Johnny Johnny" rhyme. I can't escape it.

How can they get away with that dude in the thumbnail obviously being Peter Griffin?
I saw the title and thought to myself "Hey now, that's neat."
Then I saw everyone looks like they came from GoAnimate and all my expectations were crushed.

Thank you for helping me finalize my decision on whether to commit suicide or not tonight.
Copy and paste all the faces to save time, dont worry those kids wont notice.
how could ms frizzle abandon her class and her lizard to ride around on a motorcycle with a monkey
not defending cheap puppet animation but the original didn't exactly have great animation either, super stiff hand-drawn limited animation was pretty much the equivalent of the cheap toonboom stuff now

While this is true I still expected better from Netflix.
This looks like fun. I'll give it a watch when it comes out!
nty

Yes, but it was hand-drawn and it'd look fairly unique today. And it'd play into nostalgia hard.
So what fucking idiot decided to nix the old artstyle???

Sure, kids don't care, but that's because they don't know what to expect. Give kids garbage television, and they grow up wanting garbage television. Give kids a well animated, cleverly written show, and they grow up wanting quality animation and writing.
garbage begets more garbage
There's plenty of reasonably quality animation for kids nowadays though. I don't really enjoy it, but stuff like Adventure Time, Amazing Gumball, Gravity Falls, My Little Pony: FiM, Steven Universe and even Teen Titans Go (as terribly written as it is) has decent animation and inventive writing. This just looks like a soul-less cash-in.

this episode explains why 12 oz mouse looked like total shit, probably because it was on a budget of $50
While it looks generic and not very good, I cannot fault a show wanting to teach children about science. What they will remember will not be how it looked, but what it taught them, so this has potential to be good in that way.

the generation afflicted by these videos will be at best functionally retarded
Just looking at the thumbnail I knew it was gonna be trash.

The original was at least creative. This just looks like generic garbage.

I mean they couldve changed the art style honestly, its not like the show was known for amazing animation and design or anything.
But why the fuck they choosen such a shitty style to replace it?
Was hoping for a dark and gritty reboot, starring an alcoholic magic school bus
Miss frizzle sounds like shes got parkinsons and is also using a microphone from the 80s in this, what the heck

needs an obligatory PTSD subplot
needs an obligatory PTSD subplot
The subplot would reveal that Carlos acts like a clown to hide intense feelings of depression and guilt over what happened to Miss Frizzle.
This does answer one HUGE question I've always had in regards to the Magic School Bus. And that is, how the hell did Mrs Frizzle get it in the first place? Like did she find it in a junk yard one day, say fuck it I need a bus I'll fix this bad boy right up with quickness and suddenly LOVE made the damn thing live? Honestly I still don't know how she GOT it, but at least we now know how ownership transfers, which would suggest that she received it from someone herself. But that just opens a WHOLE can of questions as to who owned the damned thing before her and I realize I'm putting WAY too much thought into a children's educational (sort of) cartoon, but I mean come on, these are the questions that need answering!

Horrible misuse of educational funding.
Should have been a gritty remake
it's gonna have a shitty version of this

Ah, here it is.

At least it wasn't this shit. Cutting half the cast and doubling up characters while making Liz an abomination is uncalled for. Children deserve better.
it really astounds me how we managed to make animation/designs get more awful/lazy than it was 20 years ago. you would think it would have improved, but no. humanity as a collective came together, and spews out absolute trash like this.
they look like bitmojis
What makes this even worse is. We know Netflix has the money to give this show some decent animation and voice actors. But they just didn't.
